Was she hammering it over the net?? I’m moving to LA at the end of the year so any public golf recos would be great.

played rancho, Angeles national (loved it), rustic and

Haha funny enough, only ever seen her hitting irons and wedges. Considering #4 (Westchester the course is a short executive style spot) runs along the whole back of the net, RJ (the attendant) prolly didn't want her taking anyone out 😂

I lived in LA for 15 years and never actually played Rancho; just went to the range a buncha times. It was always just said to be notoriously slow. Absolutely love Angeles National - played that one many, many times. I'd say it's easily the most challenging from a pure golf perspective. Rustic is another favorite - probably the one we played the most (my profile photo is actually walking Rustic during my first round back after lockdown). Tierra Rejada is another fun one near Rustic (actually a touch closer to LA by maybe 10mins) and pretty tough with all the elevation changes.

Navy Destroyer down in Seal Beach/Cypress/Wherever is pretty awesome as well. It's the course Tiger grew up playing - used to only be open for military and family but it went public back in the early 00s I think but they still give preferential tee times to military and first responders so it's not super easy to get on - but when you do, you'll love it. Just a great layout than can be challenging when the wind picks up. Played that one A LOT for a while and shot some of my best scores there.

Griffith Park munis are fun and better than the Sepulveda munis. The Long Beach munis (Skylinks, El Dorado, Rec Park) are all pretty fun (and pretty easy in general) but can get crowded. Definitely ones to hit up super early.

Head east out towards San Bernardino/Riverside and there're a ton of great courses; namely - to me - Oak Quarry which is easily my favorite course in Southern CA. Goose Creek, Sierra Lakes, both great courses.

Those are my faves I can think of off the top of my head. Sorry for derailing the thread. 🙂

Sorta like this? Men do it too. Although former champions would get a special exemption for the men’s Open.

The local qualification has started in the earnest, some notable results:

1.  Muni He finished solo 3rd in Oregon and is the first alternate.  Her chance to play the Olympic Club is good.

2.  Alison Lee's resurgence is real.  She tied for first in Southern California and qualified for the Open.  This qualification site has so many LPGA players it's almost like a mini LPGA tournament.  Leona Maguire was T10 and needed to look for other way to play the Open.

3.  Kelly Tan was 2nd in Northern California and qualified.  Like Muni He, Lucy Li was solo 3rd and the first alternate.  Juli Inkster gave it a valiant try but came out short at T20.

From the Half Moon Bay qualifier.

Seems like Scavo, Tan and Li are all headed to Olympic...within the above link is another link for full results at HMB.

Wow, Monica Vaughn won the qualifier in Oregon at -10.

For those that don’t remember, she won the 2017 NCAA Championship over Jennifer Kupcho and Leona Maguire while at Arizona State but chose to go into coaching rather than play professionally.

Are you serious a mini LPGA tournament? There were 45 amateurs in the field as opposed to 39 Pro's. One of the Pro's shot a +54 over 36 holes.

Sorry, I didn't mentioned them because I don't know them.  Sierra Brooks finished way back of the bus!

The Metraux sisters are getting noticed on the LET ... Sophie Walker has had some great things to say about their games and they could develop into players that make an impact (hopefully for the Solheim Cup team for Europe).

I know Megan too.  I have played with her a couple of times now.  She's a former San Jose State player, familiar with the Olympic Club course and she has game.  She hits the ball a long way off the tee, she's great bunker player and she rolls a nice putt.  Her irons are pretty good too.  It just seems that she cannot get it all together at the same time and consequently has a couple of bad holes resulting in missed cuts.    She is playing really well at the moment too ... she won an NWGA event in Florida last week, beating out Paula Creamer for the win.   She is also going through a little bit of an emotional patch too as her longtime coach passed away a couple of weeks ago too.

I will be cheering her on just out of respect for her tenacity and never give up attitude alone.

So Paula is playing mini tour events?  I suppose getting some competition in as prep for a return to LPGA.

Congratulations, Paula!

Good for Paula, I like how the USGA gives out exemptions, mostly based on nostalgia and past performance (Paula a previous winner) and unlike the other Majors doesn't give out exemption to young studs, USGA says to the youngins', if you want in, then go qualify.

I was looking at some of the qualifying results and YIKES, Troy Mullins seems like a sweet girl but maybe stay with the long drive or try to get into broadcasting cause I don't think the LPGA is in the cards.  In 2 rounds she shot +32, that can't even be considered simply a bad day.

A vanity capper???😂

I think the max cap to qualify is 2.4.

In a qualifier recently, a gal shot+54 in 2 rds.

Creamer....given a special invite to Olympic.

Inkster... signed up for a local qualifier at Half Moon Bay for Apr 26...she didn't qualify....+14 over 2 rds

Both have ties to Northern Cali.

Creamer

10 LPGA wins...1 major....USWO win

Inkster

LPGA HOF....31 LPGA wins....7 majors...2 USWO wins

I believe FOX will be covering the USWO and Juli will be working the event?

What is the under/over that Juli brings up the above when she interviews Whan who will be on site.🤣🤣

Will Joe Buck be nearby to break up the fight?

LOL mr22putt! Fox no longer covers the USGA events as those contractual rights reverted back to NBC last year. News was all over the place.
