Did I just make an idiotic decision?

To me the first post reads like this:

"As a single guy, I've recently had a string of dates with various beautiful women who make a lot of money and treat me well. I'm thinking of moving to a smaller town where this is much less likely to happen. Good decision?"

🙂

Or…  I’m a single guy living in a small town and have been seeing this really nice girl pretty regularly. She’s average looking at best but will do anything for me and is really reliable. I’ve been really happy. Started going into the big city recently and met a stunningly beautiful woman. She doesn’t always call or text me back and I don’t think she’s that into me. But every once in a while we will meet up and it will be amazing! Then typically followed by her being flaky and me being upset. But man is she great to look at and I’m just drawn to her… What should I do? 😂

A few days ago I bought a set of MP-20 blades here on WRX. I’m playing off a 6.3 right now and just started breaking 80 in my last 10 rounds fairly consistently. I’ve been playing twice a week for the last 4 months. Prior to that probably once or twice every 2-3 months.
I went for a fitting and ended up getting a full set of ZX5 irons with modus 120S shafts which have immensely contributed to my improved iron game (came from Ping G). I was never a consistent iron player but really have turned the corner with the help of increased practice and playing time and these clubs.

Also, the MPs are coming with DG S300. Lie may have to be addressed but that’s another story.

Anyways, like many others here, I get sucked into checking out gear and really liked the looks of the MP-20s. I figured life’s short and just get them and see what happens.

I’m now thinking this is dumb. I’m playing so well with the Srixons why did I go and potentially mess this up? I guess we’ll see. What do you all think? Good decision or just immensely stupid?

You aren't an official WRX member until you buy clubs you don't need. Welcome to the board!

Reading this thread below will make you feel better i promise.

You're going down in clubhead MOI about 100 g/sqcm and the VCOG is literally the same. MAKE SURE you have a fitter re-weight them to match the Srixons AS CLOSE AS POSSIBLE! PLEASE post your results when you start trying them out. I am very curious how things go.

BT

As promised, I finally had the opportunity to play both sets on the course yesterday. Now, the MP-20s are weaker lofts but I was surprisingly hitting the same distance as my stronger lofted ZX5s. I don't understand how this can happen (shaft?) . After using the blades, it was very odd using the short irons 7-PW as they seemed massive. I didn't really notice much difference at all with outcomes. I had a couple shots with the blades that destroyed my average distances. For example, 178 yds out and I grab my 5 iron which normally gets me there. I was 15 yards off the back. Striped it well. Sounded amazing but went too far.

Not sure yet what to do with these results except continue to play them side by side and eventually make a decision to stick with one or the other.

What @nostatic said is dead on!

That’s the biggest lesson I’ve learned with flipping a crazy amount of clubs over the last 16 months…just don’t sell the previous club/clubs until you’re sure the new ones are a better fit for you.

Test away, just don’t let go of your previous set until you’re 100% sure you’re not going back to them.

Completely think the opposite way. Get rid of the old as fast as possible so you can put prime focus on the new ones.

That’s totally fair, I also sell the stuff I’ve moved away from. I’ve just had situations where I sold clubs too quickly only to realize that the new one I bought to replace it wasn’t as good of a fit.

I’m all for selling the stuff you replace and don’t use, just saying to have a probation period for the new stuff to make sure it’s better before selling the old.

I'm a 10+ hc and I hit my blades higher and farther than the GI irons I tried. I could barely get them off the ground. Granted that was a year and a half ago and my swing has improved (I returned to golf 2 years ago), nonetheless, I have improved my swing considerably playing blades. It requires a disciplined swing for most of us, and that's exactly what I need.

All my woods are smaller too and I've never hit anything better (except my driver but working on it). My fairway woods are the size of modern hybrids and I recently got a 360 cc driver head that looks more like 320, and I feel much more comfortable at address.

"Shirtsleeve" swing technique:

1. Setup: Elbows bent forearms pressed together against shaft slightly forward of center with "Hogan" "active/flexed" leg tension left foot turned out slightly and the right leg slightly farther to the right - weight mostly on balls of feet butt of left hands sits on the top of the grip with very light grip.

2. Swing - W/o disturbing weight distribution of legs and feet lower hands while doing a forward press "swing trigger" then the left upper arm takes over on the backswing, it needs to go out in front of the body then back in front of the chest as the hands trace down initially then up to over the right shoulder "Torres". The goal is to not disturb the pressure of the feet during the initial takeaway.

Notes:

1. Only swing thought after swing trigger - extend left arm at shirt sleeve when reaching left hand over right shoulder "Shirtsleeve technique".

2. The upper left arm move "Shirtsleeve technique" can be practiced independently without a club, sitting down for instance

3. The correct feet tension can be felt by doing very short hops on the balls of the feet then holding the same feeling of pressure on the front of the feet and then taking three practice swings with the grip very loose in order to not disturb the same pressure on the feet and on the 3rd swing actively do the "Shirtsleeve" move. From there the swing should be done within a matter of seconds to not lose the feel of the legs resisting, this way this is not a learned technique as much as it is a setup technique.

Played another round this am with the MP-20s. The dispersion and distance control are pretty sweet. I hit my srixons on the range after the round and believe I get a higher ball flight with them but not sure if that matters or not really. If it’s on the green near the pin, what else matters?

Had some thin strikes but wasn’t materially punished any more than any other iron on a bad shot. Guess I’ll keep playing them…until I don’t.

Ok. So today played a round solely with the ZX5. As much as the MP20s are beautiful and play well, my ball flight and distance are much better with the ZX5. Picked up a SC Del Mar here and paired together today, shot my best round of 75. The experiment is over with these. Have a TSi2 5W coming tomorrow….never hit a 5 wood before. The fun continues.

I think this may be your biggest issue with the MP-20s.  Modus³ 120 play about a flex softer than DG.  The shaft profile of the 120 stiff is very close to that of DGR.

DGS is also 16g heavier per shaft.  May affect you.  May not.  <shrug>

I also need to FPA to datestamps.  This is what happens when you wake up in the middle of the night....
