The way the pair em and square em works with the prime time picks is like this:

You can only use a pair em and square em by itself. Because we pick 3 each week you are able to use this in conjunction with the prime time picks. This does not mean you can mix the 2 score multipliers to grant yourself a mega bonus of either +8 or -8.

So Q's pair and square is the  normal +4 , even, or -4 situation then.   thanks

Next up at the podium, ladies and gentlemen I give you the basement dweller.

188 Speaker Podium Drawing Illustrations & Clip Art - iStock

Hello, greetings to all, can everyone hear me? A natural orator I am not folks, but I am known to extol a bevy of witticism's. I am hopeful I can continue to make up ground in the standings from this point on and leave the cellar behind.

For week 16 I will take these three selections.

The green team did me right last week so I shall stay the course and keep flying with the Philly birds again. I know that is a lot of chalk to give a divisional opponent, but the Gmen are a dreadful football team. The Eagles are at home and their wacky fan base is mighty keyed up and will be ever rambunctious in an effort to push the Fly Eagle's Fly on into the playoffs.  Give me Philadelphia - 10.

The Redbirds have lost some cred of late when the talk turns to the best NFC teams heading into the playoffs. I am not sure how far I see them going in the playoffs but I really like them in this spot. Indy coming off that dominate win at home last week against the Patriots this week travels all the way out to the Phoenix desert. A statement win by the Cardinals is overdue. I see a shoot out win for the home team in Glendale, AZ. on Christmas night. Following this win some analysts will forget about the team's loss to the Detroit Lions and resume chirping in positive fashion about the Redbirds. I have confidence in this pick so I will prime time it.  Arizona -1 1/2 pt'd

For my third play in week 16 I will take another relatively hot team. They better be hot because I'm laying 10 points on the road with them. Again like the Phila/NY Giants game here we have a very good team taking on one of the worst in the league. BOLTS Blow By Houston. I will take the LA Chargers and lay the 10 points to the Texans.

I'll go with the 10 point theme:

Chargers, Philly (x2) and KC all - 10

P48, Philadelphia is not playing during prime time. It is a 1 PM kickoff.  Leave that pick with a one point value or do you want to change the pick? You too could pair it with one of your other picks and then if they both hit the Eagle pick would be worth 2 points then. Just giving you all the options. I just caught this.

Two Tuesday's ago five of us battled under sunny skies down in Tryon. 48* 10 mph wind.

I was very inconsistent with ball striking on the range during warm up. Who knew what this round would bring? I hit my drive on one down the middle and stuffed a 9 iron to three feet. One under after one. Fairway on two and just missed the green. Chunked my chip. Even. I sliced my drive on three to the right OB. Made double, and now 2 over. Made a 3 on the par 3 fourth. Three putted five. Three over. Tugged my hybrid approach shot on five ob. Bogey, now four over. Par 3 seventh saw me hit the closest to the pin out of the group, say 15 feet, birdie putt did not fall. Still 4 over. Made a par on the uphill par 5 eighth. Missed the green short on 9. Hit a decent chip in, but borrowed a touch too much and missed the par saving 3 footer. Made the turn with a 5 over 41. I was alone in 5th about six off the lead. Two bogey's to start the back. 7 over. Par 3 next hole. Hit the center of the green and two putted for par. That was 3 for 3 on the par 3's thus far. About all you could cheer for in my round at this point. Erik says to me why are you trying so hard to leg drive with your swing. You are not in your normal posture. Well maybe I will stand taller then. It helped. Over the water on 13 (last photo) to the tiny green I hit a 9 iron to two feet. A true dart. We had our second birdie on 13 and it was a long time ago on one when my first birdie came my way. Six over. It a big drive and solid three wood on the uphill par 5 14th. I botched it around the green, bogey. 7 over. Known as the Beauty the par 3 15th saw me again hit the closest to the pin tee shot out of the group with a 5 iron to eight feet. Missed the birdie go, but took 3 and in doing so made par on all four par 3's for the round. It has been some time since I accomplished that down at Tryon. Bogey'd the next two with horrible approach shots. I was missing greens all day in both directions. 18 is a very easy par 5. I made par. I had two birdies but I also had two OB shots for the day. I finished DFL with my 81. It had been 6 weeks since Stan made it down to play with the Tryon group. As we were walking to the parking lot he says, I miss playing golf with Charlie Daniel's, Mike's the best. I howled, and said that Charlie D. would for sure approve of the vibe right here in these Landrum hills and surrounding towns.  😆  Mike does very much look like the musician.

We high school kids in St. Louis jammed many times to this one.

P3P it's a good video.

Well gather 'round, gather 'round children
Get down, well you can get down children
Get loud, well you can get loud and be proud
Well you can be proud here
Be proud to a rebel 'cause South's gonna do it again
Yes it is

Not to be that guy. I couldn’t believe the team with a better record at home was getting 3 points. I think it worked in my favor.

I was going to join you in taking Tennessee just for that fact of the home team getting 3 and the hook. It looked real tasty. At halftime I was feeling glad of course I didn't. Then a renewed Titans team came out of the locker room for the second half. It was an exciting game. Congrats on your 3rd PT in a row.

Tenn. and Seattle were other two teams I was seriously thinking about. Hope that is.....never mind.

Winter has brought higher scores.

Sure one has to wear 3 to 4 layers of clothing to not be uncomfortably cold and that restricts the swing, and a golfer has less feel in his hands which hinders the short game, but neither of those are the main reason my scores are creeping northward. The fact that the days are much shorter now I don't have enough time to hit the range after work very often to practice. I had gotten so wayward with all my shots except driver over the last 1/2 dozen rounds I knew I needed practice combined with a work over by Hutch. Fortunately Coach was on Christmas break so he had some time to give. I made it to the range 3 times including one two hour session with my swing coach. I was out of whack quite a bit. Hit balls for 50 minutes and also lengthy practice sessions with the flatstick. So when I headed back down to Tryon last Tuesday I had a better feel of my correct swing and my new adjusted putting stance.

As I said I was told that it was too cold to golf in Asheville.

I stopped to stroll the sidewalks of Landrum and found a few fun items in the store fronts. I saw Barbie modeling her New Year's Eve pink party ensemble. I talked to an old Lindsay Land farmer who was just awaking from a nap on a bench. I liked the classic store's painted sign. I discovered a very cool Santa decoration. My legs were stretched so I continued down the road 10 minutes to the golf course.

Once I got out of the car I stuffed the warmer pouches in my shoes, pockets, and cart mittens. I added two more layers of wool on top and put on the extra thick Mizuno toboggan. Golf cart loaded I headed to the range. I found a pretty repeatable decent swing hitting balls and was noticeably more often in the proper slot delivering the clubhead to the ball.

We played a foursome

38* grey skies on # 1 tee (hit 44* in the 18th fairway)  5 mph breeze   Drizzle off and on all afternoon. Still about 15 groups on the course. That sort of amazed me, but Tryon is home to ton of retires that aren't golf pu  $ eees . At a quarter to 11 we hit our first shots. White tees.

Fairways, greens, two putts x two out of the gate. Even standing on the 3rd tee par five. Solid drive, precise 4 hybrid to PW distance, nailed wedge, 4 foot birdie putt. One under. The par 3 4th saw me miss the green short right and fail to get it up and down. Back to Even. Driver center cut and again a green hit with a routine two putt on 5. On the downhill dogleg par 4 6th we all hit ideal tee shots that left us 125 in downhill. Mike hits his in the front bunker. I follow with one way back left that hung on and stayed in the collar. The other two the middle of the green. Mike holes out his bunker blast. I'm looking over my 50 footer that has a lot to it. I say aloud, "this one requires Mike's expertise to get it inside 10 feet." I had to get it lightly started to roll out 20 feet to a selected point on the bowls edge, let it almost stop there and then it will turn hard right and go downhill at a decent pace the rest of the way to the cup. I hit my spot on the ledge, as it went then downhill I thought hold on now. I thought it had enough steam to go 10 feet past. It found the driveway and kissed the stick and dropped. I shook my head and did a soft club toss. I might have done a quick Davy shimmy. I picked it out of the cup and said to Mike, " and you thought your holed out bunker shot was the only highlight shot on #6 today. What a rush dropping that elaborate putt was. One under with two birdies on the day. Missed the green missed the putt on 7 and made bogey. What I bogey'd both par 3's so far? Why just last week......😆  Back to even. The most difficult par 5 on the course number 8 saw me push a 7 iron 20 yards right of the green. I was pretty shocked as all of my irons were crisp and on target all along the front 9 until that beast. I hit a hit flopper that was 5 feet off line. I missed the 12 footer. One over. I hit my best drive of the day on 9. With the generous roll out featured at Tryon this old man might have sniffed the 230 mark. I hit my 8 iron in just a tad thin and ended up 3 yards short of the green. I faced 40 feet. I hit a low spinning gap wedge hands forward biter into an uphill hole position that was just filthy, it ended up 8 inches from the cup. Tapped that in for a tasty save and my most recent example of some solid touch exhibited. I made the turn with a one over 37. I was in second place two back of Mike. I was wearing a winter glove on my left hand and bare handed on the right when not in the mitten. It was the first round that was cold enough that the winter gloves were demanded. I was shocked at my solid ball striking because  it's kind of like golfing with a gardening glove on. Let us also remember I hate wet golf. I forge ahead through cold golf through the winter because I love the energy the game brings me, but wet conditions I say are no bueno. I believe I was effected by living 14 fantastic years in the desert. 😉 So we know what I say about # 10. If a solid round is going 10 will be the test to see if this indeed could be a special round. You see how mental this game is if I am always factoring in that thought when I start the back nine. I smoked a 3 wood that again took me all the way down to the far landing zone that enabled me to hit an 8 iron in instead of a hybrid back up the slope where I would be if I didn't nail it. I nailed my 8 iron to the back tier the pin was on. I two putter for my 4. I hit a fine drive on 11 that left me with a 5 iron in. It hit the green yes but was still left with 40 feet. My putter answered again with a fine first long distance putt. Made par. I was feeling it on the greens. One over thru 11. Par 3 12th saw my only 3 putt on the day. So that is 3 bogey's on the par 3's for the round......f' n  golf.  Two over. Fairway and green with two putts on 13, where again I hit a 9 iron fairly tight across the pond and onto the narrow green (one of the most intimidating approach shots on the course) and two putted for my 4. Still 2 over. Hit some puff to add calmness because I didn't want to get ahead of myself just because I was all of a sudden playing steadily once more. On the uphill par 5 14th I smoked driver and 3 wood and then nailed a gap wedge from 80 uphill to 8 feet. It was a side hill bender, drained it. 3rd birdie on the day. Back to 1 over through 14. "the beauty" par 3 is next. Playing 161 pin in the back. I make a very good pass with a 5 iron and end up closet off the pin once again. I made my 5 footer for birdie and two in a row and avoided making bogey's on all the par 3's on the day. Back to even with 3 to play. Smoked drive on 16 and then a decent 9 iron into the peninsula green where 2 out of the last 3 rounds I tugged the short iron and rinsed it. Took 2 putts from 30 feet. 17 is just like 10, a par is a bonus. I hit a fine 5 wood tee shot, but my cut 5 iron failed to move at all to the right and I missed the green left with not much to work with, bogey and one over. Erik starts chirping that a few OB shots on the par 5 18th could result in a snowman and wreck my round. I love our banter. I tell him not today, you got smoked today pal by an opponent in zone and nail a drive down the middle. Solid 3 wood next. I had 115 left. Stuck a wedge to 15 feet. Lipped out. Par finish. Under grey skies in damp conditions my unexpected one over 73 was in the end good enough to win the Tryon Christmas Open.💥 🍾 I beat Mike by a single shot and the others by 3 and 4. I never once hit a shot left. I had zero penalty strokes and I hit my irons extremely well all afternoon. My new putting stance and stroke performed wonderfully. I somehow kept it together all day in less than savory conditions. I did get in some needed practice and I had a lesson with Hutch. These both paid dividends. I was steady early and didn't leak any oil the remainder of the day. It was a pleasant drive home.
