I remember watching his show when I was a little kid along with the Oldsmobile Man, the Beehive, and Big Sis, and all of us laughing to the point of tears at the antics of Clem Kadiddlehopper, Dr. Ludwig von Humberdoo, and Freddy the Freeloader. Never a cuss word spoken. Nothing dirty or off-color. Just comedy, written with warmth and dignity and class.

Warmth and dignity and class…three things this Boomer thinks we could use a lot more of these days. ;^)

Sort of a rant, and sadness as well.

15 years ago the world spun on a different axis.  I couldn't get news, music, sports, calls to action or notifications JFK Jr was going to be resurrected, or porn (which exploded when the internet started) at any time anywhere.

I am not a creative guy.  I always colored in the lines, I never did anything cubist or impressionist unless it was a mistake.  I never did learn to play an instrument or mold clay or dance like no one is watching.  I was and continue to be a dumb jock wondering how he became so freaking unathletic.

Yesterday Springsteen joined Bob Dylan and others in selling their music to the highest bidder.  If video killed the music star, the iPhone killed the rock star.  Now the amount these musicians receive for each download is a pittance and not self-sustaining and these sales are the culmination of the new world.

I live because I have to make money to support my devil spawn, but to see through the hard reality I turn to music primarily for my artistic release.  Whats the phrase, a life without art is a life not worth living.

We are right here as the death of the musician happens.  It won't be fast, there will always be those who do make it, think Taylor Swift here and there will be other Taylors in the future, but the Fishbones, the Warren Zevons, the Grateful Deads, the Mudhoneys won't have a stage in this world.

RIP great musicians without the popularity.
