Pigskin Pick 'em Party

My lord my Cincy and Buffalo picks that were taken for dead in the middle of the 3rd quarter eventually rose up. Both teams took their battle's to OT.

My +3.5 with the Bills and -1 with the Bengals fell just short. Hey they made it exciting as hell for me late both of those teams.  Really I had a chance at a 3-0 this week but instead it's a winless week in the end for commish.

LP's record for week 14 is

0-2-1

What a Sunday of action week 14 was. Not many got it done, but the fight in the dog did emerge late in many contests.............WFT, Cincy, Buffalo, and Ravens. This weekend was thrilling so far in the NFL.

Perhaps all those teams saw/heard this in the locker room at halftime?

Boneheads of the week award goes out to the Lost Vegas Raiders. Go out and stomp all over the Chiefs logo before the game and proceed to get absolutely destroyed, embarrassed, pulverized… Choose your favorite. Absolutely pathetic. And yes, the Raiders are my team. Ugh 😩🤦🏼‍♂️

Yeah that was a college team move. Why would you do that and give Mahomes even more incentive to win? Dumb actions by the Silver and Black.

I'm a believer.  It all started out as a campy joke with four kids answering the casting call for a TV show.  No creative control, no rights to speak of, just the first boy band in existence.  And just as One Direction faded one kid, Harry Styles outshone the rest, and he can sit back and say, "Yes, Michael, thank you for paving the way."

Justin Herbert is like those poor 1966 Monkees, his role in all of this is to become a star.  He really hasn't been given the creative control he desires.  He runs out there, reads the cue cards and does his best.  Patrick is heading to the Monkee homeland, one could say if you stop at the Rainbow Room to see Mickey Dolenz, it is the last train to Clarksville, and he'll meet patrick at the station.  Look for the Chiefs to light up the Chargers this weekend.  And remember, KC is rolling and the beat goes on...  KC giving the 4 and Primetiming it.

On July 9, 1986 one member was conspicuously absent from the 20 year anniversary tour and it was recemtly deceased Michael Nesmith.  Why wasn't our hero of the week there?  Well he was working on movie productions, and his absolute best was Repo Man with Harry Dean Stanton, Dennis Hopper, and Emilio Estevez, but the stars were dimmed when the Circle Jerks did an acoustic "When the s*** Hits the Fan."  But what was the line of the movie, the can said "FOOD" on the front of it, and his mother explains, "Put it on a plate, you will enjoy it more."  Well, Justin Fields did just that on Sunday, and the Packers did enjoy it much more on the pick 6.  I like the Minnesota Vikings and just 3.5 points.  Another primetime selection.

In the hometown special, only worth one, I am going to follow the beat of a different drum.  It was our heroes first song and was on the charts as a Linda Ronstadt song.  Yep, I am picking the Steelers to beat...  hahahahaha, no I am not.  I am picking the over in the Steelers game.  Their offense is putrid until minute 40 of the game, their defense is sieve like, and Ryan Tannehill is the guy of the hour.  Over 41.5.

Let's finish this out with a trip to old Igloo in Steeltown that July 9th night 1986.  They played all their hits, and with the fake ID things were swinging for P3P.  I remember the show being pretty darned fun, and as they started out on the first song I believe they all stopped playing and let the tape recording continue.  Then explained, they really do play their instruments and proceeded to do just that.  Gary Puckett was there and a couple other bubble gummers, but yep, P3P has seen the Monkees.

I'm going total common sense, plus sarcasm, this week:

  • Pick 1:  In what world is Baltimore going to be within a single TD without Lamar Jackson; even if he returns, he's not running.   GB -5.5
  • Pick 2:  I will take Matty Ice any day of the week getting a TD or more!  ATL +8.5
  • Pick 3:  Cleveland is not a good defense, Las Vegas is not a good defense - There is no way it does not go over 42.5 points.   OVER 42.5

This 60 year old likes the subject of your picks post this week Montana dweller. As I often do I take your subject matter and run with it a tad. Since you gave Nesmith some words I will turn my attention to the lead singer. Davy Jones though only 5' 3" had all the young teens swooning for him back in the Monkee's day. Heck even the finest little cutie in all the land Marsha Brady had a major crush on the British singer and musician. I'd say that is babe acquiring power to the max. 😀

Y'all enjoy this precious clip from when things on tv were far more wholesome.

John Stewart wrote "Daydream Believer" as the third in a trilogy of songs about suburban life,[3] recalling: "I remember going to bed thinking, 'What a wasted day — all I’ve done is daydream.' And from there I wrote the whole song. I never thought it was one of my best songs. Not at all".[4]

The song was turned down by We Five and Spanky and Our Gang. While attending a party at Hoyt Axton's home in Hollywood's Laurel Canyon, producer Chip Douglas told Stewart that he was now producing the Monkees and asked if Stewart had any songs that might work for the group. Stewart offered "Daydream Believer."[3] The song was recorded during the sessions for the Monkees' 1967 album Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd., but was ultimately included on their 1968 album The Birds, The Bees & the Monkees. All four Monkees appear on the track; in addition to the lead vocals by Jones, Michael Nesmith plays lead guitar, Peter Tork plays piano and Micky Dolenz sings backing vocals. Tork created the piano introduction, and the orchestral arrangement was created by jazz trumpeter and composer Shorty Rogers, who included the same seven-note phrase preceding the chorus that can be heard on the Beach Boys' "Help Me, Rhonda."[citation needed]

"Daydream Believer" was recorded during the sessions for their 1967 album Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd., but was ultimately included on their 1968 album The Birds, The Bees & the Monkees. All four Monkees appear on the track, with Michael Nesmith on lead guitar, Peter Tork on piano (he created the catchy piano introduction) (the orchestral arrangement was created by noted jazz trumpeteer and composer, Shorty Rogers), and Micky Dolenz on backing vocals. Davy Jones was not sure of the song's potential at first, and admitted later that he had recorded the vocal with a hint of annoyance at the ongoing takes.[1] His feelings changed when the song became a hit.

In the video wearing his bitchin' red shirt we see Davy Jones dancing solo at the 1:23 mark. I have tried my best to mimic that swishy side to side dance move he does for years. It looks so simple, but I have failed miserably trying to get that simple groove down.

Love the piano opening.

It's one hell of a pop song and has been a long time favorite of mine.

Thanks Pete for some Monkees love. The Monkees were a damn good time.

Oh wait, we aren't on the 60's and 70's thread?   😅

Thanks NCL.

Keep it up please and give us some awesome Annie every week. I like her stuff. I'm told she is another one who hails from the Great Lake State. Is this true?

Her dance in the end while dressed in the Steelers jersey was way cute.
