Putter lie angle = 68* newport design

Accepted manufacturing ave is ~ 70* / 71*
 

anyone gaming sub 70* with a newport style head 

 

flowneck mallets from what I’ve seen have flatter lie angles like A 68ish 

 

Q : am I defeating the design of a newport sytle head with a flat lie angle ?

I'm at 35.5" and maybe 68.5 degrees with my Anser style head on the putter La Mont made me earlier this year, and would be the same with my Newports.   I've got a mid-slant style neck, but flow neck on mallet previously and the right lie angle is still the right lie angle - I guess I haven't noticed a difference with my necks and lie angle, but that's me.

 

Now that's what fits me, but I found that most putters I'd pick up that were 70-71 degrees were too upright.  In general, I've found the same with wedges and clubs and tend to go a degree flat on my irons, no idea if there is any correlation on my departures from "standard".

Stan Utley’s putting book recommends 68* lie and 5* loft. fwiw.

 

did it to an anser and like it, but staying with my arm lock

Today's SAM fitting noted a toe up tendency with a 69° lie angle. Ordered an Edel EAS 2.0 at 67°. Also, Sik Golf will allow for order that flat. Enroll offers as flat as 66°.

Usually guys who putt well with the toe of the putter in the air at address don't do too well with a flatter lie angle putter. If you are rolling the ball well and making lots of putts with the toe in the air, don't change a thing.

Do you do the sam looking for a putter or just to see data points

5* loft would require a big forward press and returning to that same position of delofting. I read that 80% of putter fittings showed people with OTR  putters 3-4 degrees are putting with too much loft for their stroke.

Agree 100%.  Unless you forward press ill almost bet you’re over lofted on your putter.   I have no press and am at 1* of loft and I’ve never putted better. The flip side of that is probably 70% of golfers can’t even produce a consistent stroke so loft is a mute point.

68 is as high as I go lol, I have a few at 66.
