The Needle - a custom mallet made by Tom Slighter. The graphics celebrate my my older son being in SpiderMan 3. I prefer the look of blades but this out performs any blade or mallet I've come across.

My current stable includes 8 putters.

All are pretty similar. I have four Camerons: a Newport Classic, a Newport TeI3, a Studio Stainless Newport Beach and a Newport Mil Spec; and 4 Pings: a Pal, an Anser, an Anser 3 and my current gamer is a stainless Anser 2.

I've made an executive decision to stick to one putter this year rather than my traditional chopping and changing. Which means getting rid of a few putters to resist temptation.

The only ones I won't sell are my Anser 2 and the Anser and the Newport Classic - both of which are precisely that. Classics.

Goodluck :drinks:

Seriously Matt I don't like to change putters as much as I used too but some time a change is just that what the doctor ordered.

A couple of months back I put down my two ball I had used for two years and brought out my old nubbins putted well with it for me until three rounds ago

Putted like crap those three rounds so today went back to the two ball

I had 33 putts but just about every putt I hit had a chance to go in.

Sometimes buddy you just need a new look

Ken, you're probably right.

I'm a stick in the mud when it comes to changing clubs - in fact I'm surprised I haven't been banned from Golf WRX I'm such a creature of habits. I use sets of irons for several years at a time and I once bagged the same 3 wood for 13 years.

The only club I have no loyalty to is the putter. I'm not a bad putter; I'm just not a good one. Without a shadow of a doubt my problem is entirely psychological. Show me an 8 footer for a par after a missed green and I'll hole it more often than not. Same putt after a solid approach? As my mate always jokes, 'pick it up Mat; I've put you down for a par 4...'

As a decent ball striker who hits a lot of GIRs, it's infuriating for me to miss so many makeable birdie putts and I'm always working on the 'try something new' idea and changing putters to try an hole more putts.

I think I'll still end up chopping and changing to a degree, since I agree with you that a bit of variation can be the spark that improves your putting, but I'm definitely going to reduce the temptation by paring down my options and offloading a few putters.

One thought is that I should try something new (i.e. not Anser/Newport shaped) so maybe I'll fish out my old Pal and picture myself as an early-'80s Tom Watson (only a bit taller) next time I'm on the course...

I'll confess to actually verbally scolding putters before, like a naughty child, after a particularly lacklustre performance.

I've never slept next to a new driver but I've certainly doled out some talkings-to to putters that would rival those of a father who'd waited up 'till 3am with a worried wife for his teenage daughter to get home... :drinks:

Mat have you thought about trying a belly putter :drinks:

ok ok I know keep my day job trust me when I say I know all about being a good ball striker bad putter I tell people all the time if I could putt I would never have had to work for a living.

Its funny reading about talking to your putter. I was caught this morning telling my two ball "Do you want to behave or go back in the trunk" honestly my buds were laughing on the putting green

oh well

Tried a few putters, including a Ken Giannini, but always go back to my trusty Homna 8032 Sinker. Basically a Manganese bronze Anser style putter with a sound slot I've been using for about 10 years now. Reamed the hosel from 0.355" to 0.370" and put a TT DG X-300 in there at 35.5", 74*, and a Pingman grip. Have no idea what the head weight is, and don't really care. Ton of lead weight down the shaft as well as lead tape on the sole. None of my friends like it, but I can't seem to find anything better than it.

If anyone has any Pro Only grips, let me know! Put the Pingman grip because I couldn't find any Pro Only's!

Currently:

#1 is a Ping Anser in Manganese Bronze, 33.5", standard loft and lie, PingMan grip.

#2 is a Ping Anser in Manganese Bronze, 35", standard loft, 1 degree flat lie, Lamkin oversize grip.

#3 is a Titleist Dead Center SP-301 in black-finished milled stainless, 35", standard loft and lie, original Dead Center grip (used on very fast greens).

#4 is an Aspire in milled stainless, 34", standard loft and lie, Golf Pride standard pistol grip (heavy; used on slow, shaggy greens).

Scotty Cameron SSS Newport Beach 1.5 (2004) with lots of toe hang for my gated stroke.

I spent all of 2005 trying just about every high MOI mallet I could find, then played with a loaner TM Rossa Sebring 3. An SC Laguna style blade with a flow neck and toe hang of about 5 O'clock, this was similar to the characteristics of the 60's Acushnet Bullseye that I first played with as a Junior. Hard to teach an old dog new tricks, I suppose.

After being fitted for a putter, I purchased a 100 gm Tour Lock butt weight and installed it in my Thomas AT-60 putter. It improved the balance of the putter and helped to smoothen my putter swing. I then took this a step further and purchased a Heavy Putter B3-M putter. This really improved the balance and I like it a lot. However, I'm in the "learning mode" with it, but expect to be able to putt better in the near future.
