Taylormade 300 Forged vs RAC TP Forged

I have a chance to pick up a used set of both. Never hit either one and I was wondering which one feels better? Or is it a moot point since both are cavity backs and forged from the same type of steel (assumption on my part)?

Now, before you say "why don't you buy both"... I already got too many sets in my closet and so I'm trying to limit my purchases 😄

There’s a reason the 300 forged are a cult classic!!!! Can’t go wrong with either but if it were me I’d go 300 forged 100% of the time. They feel a little better/softer than the rac imho

Didn't know 300 were considered a cult classic. I only found both on accident because I decided to browse used taylormade irons for some older forged clubs 😄

Some great threads on them if you search the forum. Many/some were miura forged, Lehman box toe variants, etc. I’ve bought and sold at least four sets of these over time… always regret it.

By the way, I'm talking about these RAC forged. 

 

I guess I don't know how many diff models  they made over time but googling RAC forged gave me couple different images 🤷‍♂️

While most of the 300 irons were forged in China and Mexico, I know that a small percentage of them were forged by Miura but it's impossible to tell the difference.  Who knows?  Maybe that 300 set is Miura forged.

Those are the 2005 Rac TP Forged. Gorgeous set of irons.

I imagine if the seller is in Japan, they might be Miura's? 

Also in another thread I was looking (diff clubs though) someone mentioned Miura having smaller/different font for number stamping.

Like I said, they're impossible to tell the difference to see where the 300s are forged from but I do know that the Lehman Grind of the 300 are Miura forged.

I played both sets. Really hard to go wrong with either set, but the 300’s are a touch more forgiving. Honestly, I could flip a coin and be happy playing either one.

Those RAC TP's were my grail set back in high school...I should pick some up now, such a good looking iron.

You should get both.  This sounds like a golden opportunity.  Sell a kid if you have to.

 

Or I'm sure that you'll find that one of the sets you currently own is inferior to both, so sell that set and keep both.

I ended up getting RAC ones. There were a lot more sets of 300 for sale so I figured at the moment RAC was one to get 🤷‍♂️

I think you'd have been happy either way, but I would have probably gone for the RACs, as well.

Good decision. I still have mine and will never let them go. Loved them. If I had a set with conforming grooves, they'd still be in the bag.

Yeah, that sounds about right. This thread had me thinking about what I like in an iron head, and I realized that so many of my preferences came from this set. Funny how a single design can influence a person so much.

Good Choice.  I always thought that the 2005 RAC TPs were the prettiest forged CB I've ever seen.

I have a set of the '09 Japanese version in the mail right now, should be here Monday.  Always wanted a set over the '05's as they seemed a bit too long heel to toe for me.  Have PXi 6.5s in them so an interesting combo.

Those were  beautiful. Iirc both Mike weir and retief goosen won majors with them

Those are great irons! I played with the 300’s and these. 300’s were a bit more forgiving, but I preferred the 2005 TP looks wise.
