Wilson D9 Forged review

I agree!  I think Wilson has something really nice going right now with iron design and innovation.  The new D9 forged is an outstanding product for a forgiving iron.  It looks fantastic and they nailed the offset.  I still miss my staff model cb’s from time to time…🥹

I own and play many different iron sets.  Sets like Ping i210 and G425, PXG P, etc.  Yet after bouncing around, when I want to return to my "comfort zone", I come back to my C300 Forged. They look great, feel great, are very forgiving, and flat-out perform.  They are the predecessor to the D7 Forged, which are the predecessor to the D9 Forged.  But I'd put the C300 Forged up against pretty much any current iron out there.  Very underrated.  Enjoy your set of D9 Forged.

I always wanted to have a set of C300's but never found a nice set in lefty. The teaching pro at our Golf Shack could play anything he wanted to but he still plays the 300's.

I bought two LH 4-GW sets of the C300 Forged when they were closing them out for like $400/set.  I re-shafted one set with Steelfiber i95, and one with Steelfiber i110.  Both awesome sets.

Worth an upgrade from D7 forged?

I've never played the D7 forged so I can't say. Less power slots on the D9 forged and I like the looks a little bit better. Performance will probably be about the same. Both great irons.

They talk about a lower COG in the D9.  I'd like to see the numbers when these get published.  I agree on the looks too, they look sharp.

Totally agree!!! The C300 forged are everything I could want in an iron. Advancements in golf equipment are incremental now, but particularly with irons. I too would put my "C300 forged up against" anything.

That said, if the D7 forged go for the same discontinued sale price as the C300 were when I bought them, might be hard to resist. I could use an upgrade in my backup set anyway.

I just received mine few days ago (with KBS TOUR LITE shafts)

They look beautiful. Top-line is really thin to my eyes (which is a good thing). Back-line is a little bit large though (I guess it's for the center of gravity).

And they feel great. Really easy to hit (but not to the point of a game improvement iron though).

They are much more quiet/silent at impact and much softer than my old Titleist T300's.

Even on miss-hits they don't hurt your hands at all, much less annoying sensation than with the T300's. (The KBS TOUR LITE and the MCC+4 grip might also play a role here).

They don't feel powerful though (but then again, I'm coming from T300's), which is a good thing. They don't have a hiden sweet spot the size of an ant that would produce cannonballs at times. They feel reliable. Exactly what a golf club should be.

Honestly, even if they raised the price quite a bit from the previous models (as did all golf manufacturers recently), it's hard to believe the price tag. They look and feel much more expensive than they are. (almost high-end).

Also I don't know if it's relevant, but the Wilson D9 Forged with the KBS TOUR LITE (stiff, 100g) feels like a much lighter club than my Titleist T300 with AMT RED (regular, 95g).

The swingweight is definitely not the same.

I can't really tell if it's for the better, as I don't feel it changed my ballstrike, but it's what I feel.

I think the head of the D9 Forged is lighter than the T300's (which has tungsten in it), mainly because the D9 Forged head is noticeably smaller (so less material). If you add an heavier shaft (+5g) to the equation : It feels definitely lighter. Less headweight at the end of the club.

They had a set of them in the shop and I was surprised by the look at address. While I haven’t hit them, I immediately thought it might make an ideal blend with the Staff Model Blades. I personally did not like hitting the CBs and maybe this is the right next step.

I used to play the blades and that was my thoughts exactly

I have them with Nippon Modus 105.  Only 2 rounds in and I’m impressed.  Also coming from T300 as another poster mentioned.  Definitely not as forgiving as those, so I’m still experiencing some less than great shots. Mostly on the thin side.   But as also mentioned.  When hit solidly there’s an “Oh My” sensation that I never experienced with the Mizuno 223.

I will also ad, Wilson May have the most complete line from + players to 30 handicaps.  Literally something for everyone.   A co worker in our shop is a

+2 and has the TM P7TW irons and had been considering the Mizuno 221.  But after hitting the Staff Blades and CB said he could easily play a combo of those.   He said the others aren’t even an option now.

A customer came in probably a 25 plus snd was hitting the regular D9 15 yards further and higher than his TM RocketBladz.

Their wedges look and play great. Their putters are seriously underrated and a great price.

The only hole in the lineup is a better player driver. Which the rep said is going through some tour feedback and input now and will likely be out in January.

I've been curious about these but haven't seen them in person yet. In terms of size and forgiveness, are they in that sort of forgiving players' iron category alongside stuff like the i210s, Mizuno Pro 223s, Cobra King Tour Mims? Or are we talking bigger and bulkier than those?

Certainly not big and bulky in any way.  The + player I mentioned above thought they were a great looking iron for not being a blade.

i can tell you my 223 went on sale 3 days after receiving these If that says anything.

I'd say the forgiving players iron. Much smaller and less offset than the Ping I210's & 223's.
