GEM Training Aid

Looks interesting…the weight looks like it is twisting the club open in transition causing you to fight against this.

The guy’s club is pretty darn steep in transition and it looked like he was hitting pulls in the demonstration. Almost the it made him do the old malaska tip the shaft over move.

I get what it is designed to make you feel but there’s a far easier way to translate it to a golfer.

Get a bunch of cheap clubs from goodwill or something and set up with the toe aimed to the target ie 90 degrees closed and then take your grip. Swing and throw the clubs straight down the range/field/desert.

When you figure out how to make them fly straight which is done by doing what Monte advocates in NTC, you no longer have to worry about learning the release.

The best lesson I’ve had of many years started with 20 minutes of throwing clubs, swinging a yard of 1 1/2” rope and doing exercises with no clubs.

Someone else posted this video the other day, can't find the thread, and I mentioned why not just practice toe up to toe up like he demonstrates in the video?

Well at the range I caught my self mindlessly doing toe up to toe up swings in between shots. Then I was reminded of this video, and started simply imagining the weight hanging off the bottom of the shaft. I have to admit that alone was enough for me to start hitting some really solid strikes. I had a real feeling of club face awareness that I don't think I've ever really had... Probably another one of golfs fleeting feels.

@airjammer mentioned Malaska. It's funny this reminded me this must be what Malaska always says about feeling like he's swinging level, I never really got that until now.

All that ssaid this is just one time at the range and I didn't even have the training aid... I might have to weld something up in the shop.

I ordered one this is what I received a few days later

Thank you for your recent order – we really value your custom and your support of GEM.

We have been humbled by the huge interest in GEM – and it is great to see you and many people around the world invest in this game-changing aid.

Unfortunately, due to this unprecedented demand, we are facing some short delays in processing the vast number of requests we have received – so we are reaching out to everyone that has ordered a GEM in recent weeks.

We are working hard to get through all the orders and have bought in additional resources to help us tackle this.

With the golf season ramping up, we understand you are keen to get your hands on your GEM as soon as possible, and we assure you that we are doing all we can to get it delivered as soon as possible. We appreciate your patience at this time, and we hope the short wait will be worth it.

Thoughts on this review of the Gem? I know I’m not spending $140 on it.

That’s about as consistently well as I’ve seen Brenden swing without a coach being hands on with him at the range. In other words, he was getting some quality results on his own. And crushing it if his launch numbers are to be believed.

Ordered it and will report back once I get some time with it. Ive tried so many training aids through the years its almost embarrassing.  Smart ball, divot board, orange whip, Gbox, 300 yard impact, rotator, putting wheel, and on and on... None of them seem to stick for long, I'm an optimist and will keep trying to find the "one" lol

What to do with the hands and arms is the least of most golfers’ problems, since they have no clue what to do with their bodies.

And those who know what to do with their bodies seem to somehow figure out what to do with their arms and hands.

I think Monte’s Not Turn Cast Drill among many others suggests that it can be done both ways.

Having played around with it for a few hours now,  I’d say it would help anyone who rolls or fans the face open on the backswing, it feels terrible if you do it because you’re  trying to lift the balance weight from its natural downward hang to a more horizontal position.  Similarly, on the follow through, if you don’t open your body and allow the club to swing through, the shaft will kick and feel terrible.  So, arms, hands and body pivot have to work together to get this thing to swing smoothly. As swing aids go and how little money and effort it takes to knock one up, I’d say it’s well worth giving it a go 👍
