Fix for "old lofts" ...

Check out how Ken Flanigan fixed the problem of "outdated" lofts on this old set of Mizuno irons he refinished ...

Ping should do that with a retro release of Eye 2K. Just change the number on each club and add a touch of camber to the soles. Basically the old PW gets stamped as a Gap wedge, the old 9 iron gets stamped a PW etc….. They would sell thousands of sets. In all seriousness would love to see someone test an original Eye 2 6 iron at 32* and 37.25” vs a g425 at the same loft and shaft length.

I actually did this 2 weeks ago ... only it was my Eye 2s and my 718 AP1s ... The AP1s were exactly 1 club longer except the 9 iron. For some reason, I hit my AP1 PW 125 and my Eye 2 9I 130 - which is odd since my Eye 2 9I is actually slightly weaker (45 vs 43 degrees).

Cool! The Eye2’s were so ahead of their time. Imagine if the lofts were actually equal….. If I was running Ping I would release an Eye2K (For Karsten) and keep the shape the same, but cast them out of 8620, add a little more camber to the sole, and make them modern lofts.

One of the big YouTube channels did exactly that a year or so ago.  The numbers were basically equal.

He should have engraved them with their lofts. Many wedges do, why not all clubs?

He did same clubs, but the loft on the g425 7 iron is 6* stronger and a longer shaft. He should have compared the Eye2 7 iron to the g425 8 iron, then the lofts and shaft length would have been closer.

In case someone else buys them and wants to adjust the lofts.  It would be annoying for most to have a bunch of clubs with the wrong lofts on them.....not just a wedge

Super cool work but I hate the stamping he used for the new numbers. The old Mizuno iron number font was iconic

I do not play Ping clubs but I study them a lot from an engineering standpoint. I got intrigued some time ago with them messing and studying Ping wedges. There are a lot of different factors and Karsten was a genius had the total engineering package. When you study different models especially EYE 2s on wedges one will see the relationship between loft , sole grind and offset. Ping has always had sorta funky half loft and lie numbers on their stuff. But with closely studying their clubs one can develop some of the genius of why they are set up that way. From an engineering standpoint it is a total package. I am a member of a couple of FB Ping groups I like to read stuff the experts post. On the most Part Ping clubs do not fit my eye except for like the K=1 and Eye 2 1 irons and the Eye2 and Zing sand and lob wedges but I can appreciate and respect the genius of Karsten

I thought he did that but I didn’t re-watch it.  If you search ping eye vs modern irons on YouTube, there are actually quite a few videos.

Guess I keep forgetting that loft, a constant number, somehow keeps changing vs. numbers on the bottom of the clubs...  Then again, I play clubs for the lofts they have and what it gives me vs. relying on a random number Bob, Chris and Kirk went with in Marketing...
