Anyone decide to go with PXG for your 11-13-year old???

You can take any head/hosel you want and pair it with any shaft you want....if you want.   Only real thing to consider is it taper tip or parallel tip. ...and cost.

IMHO not recommended to install taper tip shafts in a parallel tip head/hosel, but it's doable. It's also possible to install a parallel tip shaft in a taper tip head/hosel, but again, IMHO, not recommended.

If PXG, Ping, Cobra, Titleist or whomever doesn't have the shaft you want on their website, head on over to a Club Champion, PGASS or other local clubmaker and you can get any shaft you want.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

We did for our daughter. She really enjoys playing them. She was playing the US Kids set (TS 63) and her coach recommended her to move to an adult set but with a senior flex shaft cut down to match a womens length. We got fit at the Fairfax, Va PXG store and they did a good job. The two big considerations were the weight difference and shaft flex. It took a while for her to get used to it. She’s building her golf muscles.

my daughter used PXG 0311P Gen 3 Irons 6-GW with Accra 60I Senior shafts for 12 and part of most of this year (13). I think they spec'd slightly lighter heads when we bought them.  Easy to custom order on their website.  Just out grew the shaft and now we are testing some Titliest AP3's I had kicking around with Nippon 880 amc Reg shafts, stock Length and Lie and that is going pretty well. We will probably move to the Titleist next.  I think they sell online direct now so don't know if that is copying PXG service but it is helpfull if you know what you want and don't want to deal with a middle man.  She really like the PXG, the Accra shafts were great.  I think she is enjoying some more forgiveness and distance in the AP3's and slightly stronger lofts than the 0311P, Nippon's are excellent too so far.  Around 92 MPH Driver SS.

Thanks for the replies.  One of the selling point, at least to me, is the ability to adjust swingweight in the Gen4 and Gen5 models.  As kids grow the ability to adjust the swingweights as they get re-shafted seems like it would be a good thing (without having to use lead tape etc).

I don't think swing weights make a huge difference after 12 years old unless the kid is really slight assuming everything is consistent.

Regarding the forgiveness, I thought the 0311P series was supposed to be very forgiving…was this not the case? I’m in the same boat considering either Gen 3 or 4 as the first adult transition irons for my daughter but she wants a thinner top line than the XP models. I’m curious to hear why you’re considering switching to AP3’s. Thanks!

We went with the Mizuno Hot Metal series... it's a bit of a mixed set between the 921 Hot Metal (7i, 8i, GW), 919 Hot Metal (9i) and 919 Hot Metal Pro (PW).  The ladies recoil shaft is really nice for her at this time, when her swing speed is mid 70s with her driver.  If I could have found a complete set of used Hot Metal Pro in my price range with those recoils it would have been an ideal solution for us.

I wouldn't say very forgiving.  They are good, no issue for my daughter to hit but in my opinion the AP3's are more forgiving and probably a bit more over size and slightly stronger loft as well so you need to factor that in.  I would also say better turf interaction as well.  It is a different shaft as well but she definitely hits the AP3 higher and farther.

My daughter is 5'1" and 14. I got her 6-GW in the 0211 DC irons for Christmas last year. I think those clubs might be the best bang for the buck for any player shooting over 85. She has the MMT graphite shafts in "A" flex and the undersized grips. I think they are like 1/2 or 3/4 under womens standard length. When I ordered them she wasn't 5 foot tall but had a growth spurt last spring and summer, thank God! Lol. I also got her the 0311 SW with the same specs.

Edit to add she has a Gen4 XF driver at 43 1/2" with the Riptide CB shaft in Regular flex.

I would second this question again..... 11 yr old will turn 12 in April and clubs are almost too short.  Would like to transition from USK TS 57 this winter to something else to have a few months before spring tnmts start.  Still not sure what to get and worried about going "too heavy" too soon with adult irons? my son is on the smaller side of his age group.  Am I holding him back if spend next year in USK 60's?   P790's are supposed to be on the lighter side with the foam technology, talked to a fitter and speaks highly of PXG for juniors as well due to ability to lessen the weight.   FWIW... Titleist TS woods have been great and much better than USK.  Just going to have to try some out and see what happens.  Thx for the feedback as always.

Our son went adult heads at 12yo and at 60".

It's not necessary, but it definetly helped for him.

If your kid plays competitive golf, I'd say do it.

If not, save your money, as we've had to switch clubs every year since then.

Boys tend to grow like weeds between ages 12 to 15.

Hey bud, I started this thread and I made the switch.  Had my son fit at 2 different PXG locations and then at Modern Golf here in Canada (very similar to Club Champion).  After all was said and done my kid consistently found the best numbers with the Gen4 P with mmt shafts.  Went ahead and pulled the trigger and he couldn't be happier.  The gen4's outperformed the ten 5's for him.  It's very nice to be able to dial in the swing weight with the moveable weights.  I was really thinking he would end up in a 790, T200, or ZX5 but in the end the it was the PXG and the Mizuno JPX Hot metal that were at the top of the pile with PXG performing the best on 3 different days by three different fitters.  PXG also has a performance guarantee where you can return the clubs within 90 days for a full refund if you're not happy.  Can't go wrong.

I've abused the 90 day return policy of Worldwide Golf (Roger Dunn locally) shops on clubs in the past. My buddy used to show up with a new bag every 3 months... it was absurd.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Thanks Ian1974 for the reply.... Interesting that my son's eyes as well caught the Mizuno irons.  Have some options for him to try out PXG soon!  Will see what happens.  11-13 is extremely tough to fit!

Yeah 11-13 is a tough age.  My kid transitioned from the US kids Tour series to the PXG.  We're not brand loyal, it's whatever works.  He's got the Ping Glide 3.0's for wedges and Cobra Ltdx at the top end of his bag.  What I really liked about PXG in addition being able to dial in the swing weight was all the shaft options available.

Curious for the wedges - I assume they are just the standard men's options. Do you cut them down a bit or choke up?

For PXG, do they give you the wrench and weights to adjust?  I thought it was a great idea until they told me they wouldn’t give me the wrench.

It's just a torx t20 security bit. You can buy them anywhere however, the small weights are glued in so you'll need to heat them up before trying to extract. Also, the length of screws are different from toe to heel so you can't simply swap them.
