If you carry with a Jones Trouper…

If you carry a Jones Trouper you may have struggled with the dual strap system.

As shipped, the straps cross over each other but they’re not connected to each another. This makes it hard to find the second strap as naturally as you can with other systems.

I wanted a low-profile way to connect the straps so that once I had the primary one on the second one would fall right at my left hand.

I searched Amazon and found these little flexible key rings:

Metal Cable Key Ring Wire Durable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08RQHTVH8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

One of these turned out to be the perfect solution. I just hooked it around the middle of both straps as shown below.

Today I carried for 18 holes and never once was the second strap not right where I expected it to be.

Do you have another angle for the picture. Got the key ring, but after looking at mine I can't figure out where to put it.

I can try to get another one tomorrow.

Basically I have the primary strap under the secondary strap and just attached the keychain in the middle to keep the center of each strap together.

So it looks like is is around the strap below the padding on the main strap, and above the padding on the second strap?

It’s below the padding on both straps. Basically it’s just connecting the two straps in the same place that Ping and Sun Mtn strap systems have the “X” that connects the straps.

You should make a video of this. I can't believe they have a video out there on how to carry a bag... and it's the single strap... but none for the double strap.

I just did this and it’s so clutch. Love everything about my trouper 1.0 besides the straps and this hack is so simple yet makes all the difference.

Well done @me05501

Jones have introduced the Trouper 3.0 with the main upgrade being a new strap design.

They offer the straps separately at $30 per set so I have ordered some to try. My old straps are fine though one of the black rivets has pulled through the fabric on one side. Makes me wonder when the others might give out.

The new design is held together with stitching...no rivets pictured.

Just ordered a set of straps for mine too.  Hopefully they're more low profile as it shows in the pictures...

I installed my v3 straps last night. They are a bit more trim than the v2 set I took off. The main difference is that they seem to grab my shoulders a bit better and may be less likely to try to slide off.

So far I have the secondary strap run under the primary strap and it seems easy enough to find it with my off arm.

Good to know I’m going to have to pick up some. I got a blind draw bag earlier this year and have been kinda disappointed in the straps. Love the bag otherwise.

@me05501 Are you overall happy with your Trouper?  My son is looking for a new bag and is looking for something "different".  He has had a basic issue Titleist bag for 8+ years now.  He asked about the Stitch bags, I told him if he likes the look that is cool, but I personally don't like it.

I told him to look at Vessel (i have player 3.0), GFore, Jones and the Premium Titleist.

He was concerned about the Jones material.  Your thoughts?

I still like my bag.

I get a lot of compliments on the appearance.

The pockets are well thought out and all my gear fits with a lot of room left over. It's not heavy to carry, especially if I chuck out a wood and a wedge like I normally do when I walk.

The fabric holds up well overall. There is a bit of a moisture line around the bottom of the bag, sort of like a sweat stain you might see on the bill of a cap. I think that's mostly from the bag riding on a cart in the rain. Not sure what else it would be. A lighter color might show less of this but could also look dirtier overall...I don't know.

I upgraded to the new v3 straps simply because they were affordable and I assumed they'd be better. I haven't walked much since I swapped them so no strong opinion there.

If you watch for sales these bags are a relative bargain IMO.

Thanks for the quick reply.  Is the material contemporary?  or classic?  I dont have much first hand experience but it seems like it is more classic, like an old Lacoste shirt.

The texture is similar to that or denim maybe. It's clearly not cotton.

@david.c.w I’ve had the first version of the trouper and have had no issues with durability. It’s probably going on 4 years now and I carry almost all my rounds.

I do know that the new versions are made from a new recycled material so can’t speak to the quality of those.

FYI I was really not concerned about the durability, but more about the style of the material.  I think a more vintage feel is kinda cool.  My 20 year old son might not agree.  If you think I am nuts for looking at spending $300 on a golf bag for a 20 year old, you are correct.  He did just get into biz school and is going to an in-state school and got accepted to a top school finance society, and is generally a cool dude.  He also calls his mom almost every day so he deserves it just for that.

I get it completely. Our third kid is a 20-year old sophomore this year. It's fun to watch them learn to fly on their own but having them out of the nest is an emotional struggle.

Thankfully we still have our 14-year old bonus child at home. Otherwise I'd be a wreck!

Wish they'd make a lower profile strap for the Original carry bag.  It's so thickly padded and wide that it doesn't sit well on the shoulder.  I might take it to a tailor shop to see if they can do something with it.

I just want backpack style strap system for the Trouper. I don't get why that's too much to ask for from them.

What color is the bag? Moon grey?

and you have to order the pulls separately, right?

it's not , they just refuse to do it and keep putting out the same crap strap system that requires you to disassemble the straps - re attach them - buy d rings - blah blah blah
