How much difference in spin are people seeing going from max to lst in the same loft? I hit the max nice high and crazy straight, but don’t seem to get a lot of roll out. Not ballooning at all, but I have a feeling it could be longer….then again I wouldn’t want to stray very far from my current dispersion. This is just based on actual playing, I don’t have any actual numbers. Have a Fuji motore speeder ts 7.2 s with stock weight. 10.5 Set to -1 flat.

Ping says 300-500 RPM.

So I added this shaft (Fubuki V 50reg) to my newer G430 LST 9*

And seriously added 10-20 of carry on great strikes with this being the best of the bunch .....

So this newish combo......first tournament round and went off with only a few minor hitches.....the positives however outweigh all other factors as now I have a good looking and sounding machine that's more forgiving than my paradym triple diamond or TSR2 with better launch conditions...... I feel as though these 3 drivers are all awesome especially with proper shaft but G430 LST just eeks past on the overall spectrum

Man all you guys on the global golf U-try. Ping has not been there for two weeks. May have to go to DSG just to try one.

I saw folks mention the stability of the lst on high toe strikes. My miss with my epic max ls is a nasty duck hook. The lst doesn’t have that miss and the max still does? I am tempted to just get a heavier back weight into the toe.  Have to play it lofted up or else my ball just falls out of the sky with my setup.(d4, 9° lofted up Ventus black 6x at 44.5”)

Driver: Callaway Epic Max LS with KBS TD Cat 44.5" (Ventus black as backup)

DI: Caley 01X 18* with KBS PGH 95

I have the same miss.  The max does a great job keeping spin up with a high toe strike.  The only time I have seen the duck hook is when I just completely smother it.

For anyone playing ventus blue or blue tr in a stiff flex, have you tipped it at all to help with the extra headweight?

No. I bought lighter weights to get the SW to D3.

I’ve done exactly the same with ventus blue 6S and g430 lst. I think it’s the 17g weight.

Deciding on either lighter weight or counterbalanced shaft for my G430 Max. Not sure why, but mine is swing weighting out at D9!! I have a Max head 9* with a Kaili 60x at 44.75". I had it measured at a big box store using a Maltby swing weight scale...measure it half a dozen times we were in shock!😂

Pulled the weight out, 25g.

My G425lst 3wd and G425 5wd both have the Tour 75x and are great at D1.

I have posted numerous times in this thread for my undying love for the LST. Yesterday I hit a friends driver that made me question that special feeling. The driver he has, and it was actually a present from myself, is the standard G430. Some might think that's very generous of me treating to him to a new shiny driver, but the truth is we had put up with him hitting the Nike square driver for far too long, and our hearing was starting to suffer.

After watching him hit a few superb drives I said give it here and then continued to smoke two drives, one straight down the middle on a par five and the other cutting a corner on a long dog leg par 4.

I would say the LST has a little bit better feel, but the G430 has a great feel out of the middle and just wants to go straight. Both holes were down wind so would like to try into the wind to see if there is much in the way of spin reduction.

I can understand why the guys at MGS have stated, "more people should be playing Ping drivers"

Anyway G430 fans, continue to hit them straight and long, peace out.

That's strange. Ping lists the G430 Max with a Kaili White playing 45.25" at D5 sw. 0.5" shorter should be about 3 sw pts lower which is D2.

Right!?!?

That's what I was going for, exactly what you mention for swingweight. Grip is a GP Multicompound so that's not it.

Gonna have to break out a scale and weight the head I guess....but it was purchased retail.

Me again....just confiscated my wife's scale and my G430 Max is 209g with the 25g weight intact. No sleeve.

Borrowed my friends swingweight scale....and it measured the same.

Weird.

That's about 4 or 5g heavier than average. That would account for about 2-3 sw pts.

Another fun (albeit wet) golf season beginning to wind down here in NJ. First real crisp Fall day today, and got another round in. Figured I’d post a few musings on the G430 driver line.

1. Played the G430 Max this entire season, and had my best driving season ever. It is simply a special driver, and made golf a heck of a lot more fun being on or close to the fairway on most holes in most rounds over an entire season. It was vastly better for me than the G410, and took the leaps of the G425 a step further with much better sound and feel (with even more forgiveness).

2. Played the HZRDUS Smoke Black RDX for much of the season, but switched to the Tour 2.0 Black 65 late in the season. Tour Black is an awesome shaft—firm, stable, but quite smooth feel and not boardy at all, especially compared to something like the HZRDUS Black, Kaili White, etc. Feel super comfortable with the Tour Black 65 and see myself sticking with it for the foreseeable future.

3. Wanted to try the G430 LST driver, and recently had the chance to give one a go (10.5*). Plugged in my Tour Black 65, got the swing weight correct (more on that later), and took it out for 9 holes last week by myself. Wow, the LST was long, and straight.  Every single tee shot. Was afraid to take it out for my full 18 hole round with others today, but the G430 LST will definitely get a run at the end of this season and beginning of next season. If that initial 9 holes was any indication, this could give the G430 Max a run for its money.

4. If you do go in on the G430 driver line, pick up a few different weights on Amazon or eBay. I basically have all weights covered between 19g-25g, and I have needed many of those to dial in different shafts with the G430 Max and G430 LST heads. Some combos really come to life with the heavier weights, and some need the lower weights to dial them in.

That’s about it. YMMV.

What is your back weight for HZRDUS or Tour Black ? Is the same weight in Max and LST ? What is the correct swing weight for you ?

I target D2-D3 SW. I have the economy SW scale from Golfworks. Here is where I roughly come out.

G430 Max

HZRDUS Black RDX 65 6.0 - 19g

Tour Black 2.0 65 S - 23-25g

Kaili White 60 S - 19g

G430 LST

HZRDUS Black RDX 65 6.0 - 18g

Tour Black 2.0 65 S - 19-21g

Kaili White 60 S - 18g

I generally keep the weight in the middle/neutral setting. The weights do take some fine tuning, as even within a range of a couple of grams, I might find an effect on launch, right/left bias, etc. YMMV.

Here are a couple more back weights I just measured for D2-D3 SW.

Tensei AV Raw Orange 65 S from my G425: 19g in the G430 LST, figure 20-21g in the G430 Max.

Tour 2.0 Chrome 65 S: 21g in the G430 LST, figure 22-23g in the G430 Max.

And I took the G430 LST out for a few holes tonight. No big surprise, but it is definitely less forgiving and less consistent than the G430 Max. The LST merits further testing, but it is not going to knock out the G430 Max from my bag right off the bat.

I assume these are all at the same length shaft?

These should all be around stock Ping length (for their Tour and premium shafts), so I think around 45.25” playing length. Absolutely, any particular swing weighting needs to take shaft length into account. I generally play around 45-45.25” playing length, so these weights should all be based upon that ballpark.

I switched out my 9 degree 430 LST Tour Black 2.0 65X for a Ventus Black 6X, and it made a very good driver GREAT. I will be testing a Ventus Blue TR 6X this week, but I don’t see how it can beat the Black for me. If it does, this could be the last driver I purchase for a while.

Mess with the weights any?

So im having this issue with the lst. I swing from 95 to 100 give or take. I have stiff tour chrome 2.0 shaft in. 10.5* that i messed around and turned down and now up 1 to 11.5*.... i cant get the ball past 245... and thats on some kinda miracle shot as if ive never done it in my life. Every thing is a sad 200 to 220 basically with the occasional 240. This wouldnt be sad if with all my other driver i average about 240 with the occasional 260+ shot. I had a few RogueST max shots at 275 and 280! I know thats not the norm but its nice to know the ceiling the driver has. All i want is 235 and up basically which my other drivers do...now.. i get it.. why not just play my other drivers? Because i bought this to match my ping bag and i do really really love the look and sound and feel and the whole other reason this is been such a debate for me is that the thing is absolutely point and shot.. i might be only 200 220 but its in the fairway or just off every single time.. but of course losing 20 to maybe 40 yards is insane. Ive tried lofting down and up.. on lower lofts the ball is diving out the air on higher lofts it seems like i bombed it but pull up to 210 215 220 200. Not sure why when the flight looks ok... is it shaft? I do feel a odd kick in this shaft at the ball and misshits seem to be a stinger for some reason. Did i mention on most of these shots its right out the middle or close to it with only a few being more off center in any part of the face. I dont get it. Maybe just max is for me?

Without knowing anything about ballspeed/launch conditions, etc. I'd say it's a matter of too low launch angle/spin issue that's sapping carry numbers. Could try a higher launching shaft or give the Max a try. Typically, I find my sweet spot to be 10.5* LST models or 9* Max

I usually go 9 in max models and either leave it or drop it to 8... i went up to 11 on lst and still same results. Its really sad because this thing is forgiving directionally

  • 2 weeks later...

Have a couple rounds on the G430 lst 3w now. Still getting used to the shallower face, but thing is a rocket launcher when I catch it. I don't know that it's any longer than my OG stealth plus, but seems like it wants to go straighter. Having the TR blue in it helps big time. Gonna try to get some trackman numbers this week.
