Takomo 101 irons who has them or tried them ?

I will try here .. I am intrigued by the DTC Takomo 101 irons. Highly rated on by some poplar youtube guys . Anyone hit them, own them? I am considering taking a flyer on heads only the 101's are the only left hand models currently , the price is very attractive for a hollow body iron.

Any pics at address ?

thanks gb

I just got my 101T in 4-PW KBS Tour Lite stiff.  They look super clean at address and buttery soft.  I'm shocked at how well they perform.  I too took the flyer and just ordered a stock set off the rack with nothing custom. I figured I have a Mitchell machine in my basement so I can bend as needed.  I have two range sessions on them here in sub 40 degree New England  weather but they have been great.  Hopefully I can get some holes in today with real balls and see how they do.  I have to say they have less offset and have a shorter blade length than my PXG Gen5 P irons.

I've been playing the 101's for 3 months. 5-PW with KBS Tour Lite S.

First, they're a bigger/longer iron. So, they're forgiving, especially out toward the toe. They get the ball up and slide through the turf easily. There's no "crack" sound/feel associated with hollow irons. The shorter clubs are great around the green, and they look great in the bag.

At address, again, big. The leading edge is rounded and there's a bit of offset, but that hasn't posed any problems. They look great after 3 months of 1-2 rounds per week. Between the 431 body and the 17-4 face, they should be almost indestructible.

For $509 shipped, a sweet deal.

Got my 101T irons in July as I wanted to try the lighter steel shafts.  So it's 4-P, KBS tour lite stiff, standard loft and lie.  The 100 gram shaft did what I was hoping for, less weight and fatigue at the end of the round.  No difference in distance from my Mizuno MP-20's and the look at address is very similar.  I've got 50 years in the game and grew up on blades so these are very pleasing to my eye.  I play pretty well with these clubs for an old coot.  Don't be afraid to try them.  The cost is very low compared to the major brands these days.

Congrats. Just wondering how long you had to wait for them. I've been waiting over 8 weeks for my 301 set and they've had the components for over a month now. I don't understand how it can take so long for this set to be built.

Hi,  I got my 101T in less than two weeks from the order.  I do see that some of the models (101) are looking at 8-12 weeks delivery time.  Wished I had ordered my set over the summer.  Tough to rate the performance in sub 30 weather but so far so good.  Feel in the cold is fantastic.  Good luck on the 301's

Purchased Takomo 101 irons 4I to PW and two Skyforger wedges last summer. I'm 67 and purchased the 4I to PW from Takomo with Fujikura Atmos senior flex graphite shafts.

With graphite shafts installed the finished 101 lengths are 1/2" longer than steel shafted 101s keeping them around a D2 swing weight in the graphite shafted 4I to 9I, the PW swing weigh is D4.

The forged Skyforger wedges came with steel shafts, I decided to install Fujikira Vista Pro senior flex iron shafts attempting to match the feel and characteristics of the shafts in the 4I to PW.  The graphite shafted wedges come in around D5 swingweight cut about 1/4" shorter than the PW. Best way to explain these wedge's feel is buttery.

Owned Ping, Taylormade, and Mizuno irons over the years.

Takomo irons are my favorite so far!!!

As I age my memory isn't what it used to be but I'm thinking it was about 4-5 weeks for delivery of the 101T irons.  Of course this was in the middle of summer, prime time for golf, so I was patient and duly rewarded.  Good luck on your delivery, hope you enjoy yours as much as I enjoy mine.

I’m looking to pick up 101’s as well.
Are you still happy with them?

What degree wedges did you get and how did they gap with the 101 PW?

I played them for about a month. They were straight as an arrow but I couldn't tell where I was hitting the face at all. Zero feedback. Maybe that works for some folks, but I wasn't a fan.

Purchased a 48 & 52 degree Skyforger wedges. The 101 PW is 44 degrees, going by memory. I really like the 4I through PW 101 for full shots and PW, 9I, and 8I for chipping. Skyforger wedges feel great, but for me on soft turf when pitching, does not seem to have enough bounce.

Can anyone speak to turf interaction ? i can't find the bounce angles anywhere

We have had a very wet December and I like the 4I thru PW on full shots, when it's wet. I don't like the Skyforger wedges as much when pitching on soft turf, probably just me.  You can see the Skyforger wedges bounce on their website, but I like a little more bounce for pitch shots when it's wet. The forged wedges feel very soft.

What do you think might be a comparable club in blade length? "Big" can be relative.

Hope this helps. All 6 irons. Srixon z745, Takomo 101, and Ping G25. The last one is a silhouette of the 101 PW.

I am disappointed that you need to buy a full 4 - PW set.  Given strong lofts I have been stopping at the 6 iron for quite a while.

I have been wanting to pick up a set but I want to hold out and see if I can get them in a different color (I thought I heard something about them possibly being available in black but that could just be a pipe dream). I golf with a guy that has a set and he absolutely destroys the ball with them (he has the 101T's). I hit the 5 iron and it felt pretty solid, very forgiving.

I tend to miss my shots off the toe, so these might the ticket. I am currently gaming a set of Miura MB101's and a set of Ping i230's (both are incredible), but the Takomo's are making a big dent in the golf scene and its getting harder not to want to grab a set.
