LAB Golf Link Putter Arrived Today.

My LAB Link arrived today. So beautiful. First 6 rolls went hit my target line (verified with Putting Tutor).

 

It'll be put through more tests in my office before I bring it out on the course but, as of now, I like it more than my Mezz and Mezz Max. It'll take awhile to dethrone the DF.

 

My only gripe is the head cover doesn't offer enough coverage as the heel sticks out a bit beyond the head cover (magnets arent all fully engaged). Strangely, my See More plaid magnetic putter cover protects the Link better as all magnets are fully engaged when the putter is in the cover.

Went with the standard Grip Master Leather Midsize. Feels kinda like a Pingman but not as tacky.

I believe they said that the headcovers weren’t ready in time so they shipped with B2 headcovers. I think you’re suppose to get a voucher to get the actual headcover for free once they’re in stock and those should fit perfect.

I believe you are correct. Sam responded to my Facebook post and said we’d be getting replacement putter covers.

Is the COG aligned with the dot or a bit heel side near the attachment point?

The picture at setup looks like the old Odyssey Toe Up #1. I really liked how that putter set up, but I hated that the sole was kinda hollow. It'd get stuck on the grass on the takeaway.

 

Yeah, this might have to be my first LAB foray.

@flubberlange Is the length heel to toe longer similar to the Max and a typical anser style blade or is shorter like the original Mezz?

Longer from heel to toe than the Mezz Max.

I just got mine yesterday as well and it's nicer in person than the photos. Build quality is great. I also really like the Accra shaft in it but have only rolled up to 6' putts with it so far. Sounds soft off the face with the milling. Really does seem easy to roll straight. 

 

Looking forward to trying some longer/lag putts to see how it feels. Been gaming a Stability Tour putter shaft last two years and the Accra 'feels' softer. 

 

@Cactus Jack COG seems a bit more heel side. When holding horizontally the face wants to return toe up. I confirmed with my LAB rep that this is intentional. 

 

Great putter so far and looking forward to testing more against my Bettinardi with Stability shaft.

Just curious when you both ordered your putters?  I placed an order for mine and can't wait to get it.  Figured I might get an "idea" on when to expect it based on the proximity to when you ordered.

 

Can't wait to hear about the long distance putting/sound outside.  I have a Mezz and absolutely love the consistency of it.  I just like the idea of the blade style putter to suit my eyes over the ball.  Figured this might be the best of both worlds.

I ordered mine on the day it was released - 11/15/2022. Shipped 12/22/2022.

So looks like it shipped a little over 5 weeks after order.  More or less looks like they're closer to the 6 week timeframe of the 4-6 weeks estimated.  I think I ordered mine the 25th so I probably have a few weeks.

 

looking at the photos next to the Mezz...im surprised how big it is.  Does it look "off" proportionally?  I got an LA golf putter at a tournament and shocked at the size of it.  Looked like one of those old Hog putters (major oversized blade) painted all black.

For me, it doesn’t look off at all. It feels like “home”. LOL. With the Mezz, Mezz Max, and DF, I felt like I had to ”work” to get them to perform - had to work hard on my setup, ball position, etc. With the Link, it seems like everything just falls into place - at least in my office on the Putt Out mat and Putting Tutor. 

 

I’ll be taking out today for it’s first round. Greens should be between 10 and 11.5 this morning. We shall see how things go.

@flubberlange As far as alignment goes, can you essentially place the shaft over the weights on the heel side of the putter to ensure accurate alignment (like covering the red dot for the Seemore putters)?

@jdorfman I also ordered mine the morning of release day, 11/15, and it arrived on the 27th. 

 

It is bigger than my other blade putters (Scotty Cameron Pro Platinum and Bettinardi QB12) but it only looks big when sitting side by side with the others. Standing over the Link by itself it doesn't appear large or proportionally 'off'. The size seems normal.

Absolutely! I discovered that last night. Prior to getting on the LAB Train, I was a SeeMore guy and I missed that red dot - until the Link. For me, it seems like I'm in a good spot if only my dominate eye is open, the shaft bisects the bolts on the heel.

Played my first round with the Link this morning. Greens were a bit damp as it was misting in So Cal. Green speed was 10.

 

I pulled the Link out of my bag on the first green and my buddies are like, "WTH, dude? Why do you have that? You have been putting so well with the spaceship (the DF)". I explained to them that the DF is like an average to bad looking gf with a great personality, you are always looking at the hot girls but you always come back to the gf. Anyways, I'll stop there before I offend someone.

 

Performance wise - the Link easy for me to aim. I hit most, if not all of my start lines. Speed control was decent for the first round. Speed was off because toe and heel strikes scrub speed a bit but once I realized that, I was trying harder to hit the center of the face (I'm not too concerned about this with the DF). One 3 putt today because my speed on my first putt was whack. All other putts were either right next to the hole or in the hole. 

 

I definitely like the Link more than the Mezz and Mezz Max but, as of now, the DF will be in the bag when the round matter. I'll be rotating between the Link and the DF on the golf course, use the Mezz in my office, and the Mezz Max is going into my brother's bag - because he suddenly wants to try a LAB putter. LOL.

Can the loft be adjusted? After numerous fittings I’ve found loft to be the important variable to dial in for my game.

Interesting hosel, it’s off putting (pun intended) to me but if it works…

Looks way better than the mezzs and the DF. Will be interested to see performance. Keep us posted.

Anyone who has received theirs been able to get more putting in with it?  If it’s as stable at the Mezz with a blade profile I’m going to love it. I hope I don’t miss the press 1.5 grip though…

Yup. Been putting with it. My original intent was to use the DF in matches that matter and continue to experiment with the Link in “friendly” rounds. Went out to play a quick game Sunday morning with the Link. Somehow ended up in a bigger money game than anticipated. 29 putts later (for me, that’s awesome), I was very pleased with the results.

Aim is fantastic and speed control is pretty solid assuming you don’t miss too much to heel or toe side of putter.

Good call on the CG placement. This putter will be inconsistent on off-center hits. Especially toe side.

Very true, and note I still have a DF 2.1 securely in my bag.  The Link is intriguing, but I think if I make a change it'll have to be to the B.2.

Does the CG align with the center of the alignment marker? Every naturally toe up putter I’ve played besides Axis 1 has had a heel side CG.
 

I realize the tech is different , but a few of my Edel putters are especially bad with the CG upwards of 1/2” heel side. They feel terrible when struck in the center and awesome when struck in the heel. However, is super annoying so they sit in my collection unused.
