So... the current understanding

  • Nike proper will still design the apparel and shoes?
  • Srixon will distribute it and try get to all their tour guys in Srixon / Cleveland / Nike set ups?
  • As contracts expire, we expect non- Cleveland golfers to exit the swoosh ala Rory, Shef, Tommy lad, etc?
  • Taylormade has something up their sleeve for apparel in parallel?
  • Via Srixon, Nike might have more penetration back into the Country Club pro shop?

Don't think this mean more penetration into pro shops. I believe they're gonna shift away from that and maybe be more Golf Galaxy/PGA tour superstore focused. Don't really see taylormade wanting to get into the apparel business unless it's partnering with another big brand. Right now you have a few brands that dominate and the others get the scraps and that doesn't seem like a very good business plan.

That’s been the strategy? Almost no or shops carries Nike now compared with 10 years ago.

PGASS, golf big box retailers, and NDC are the current strategy?

Yeah that's what I'm saying I see them dropping pro shops all together and just sticking with those big box chains. I know Jordan Brand as of next year will be completely done with pro shops except a few select ones.

Interesting choice of pictures for the website.

Like TW photoshopped out 😭

So Mint Green does what vs Nike?

Mint Green is just a sales force? Effectively, a channel rep just has 3

products to sell?

who managers what guys are Nike guys now? Beaverton is still designing the shoes?

Essentially yes.

The tour guys may be a different story but I don't really see how you can keep those guy if you're effectively turning the brand over to another company.  And lets be honest I'm pretty sure preschool kids are doing some of these designs now.

My guess is they stopped new designs and will have the shoes slated to release for the next 2-3 years with no new models after that. They will recycle their old designs i.e. Jordan 1s, 6s, etc.

Are those 14s

No, entirely different swoosh layout and traction pattern. I don't see spikes, so spikeless below.

But... looks like some lost iteration of the TW / Free family.

I wonder if this mint green company is reminding Nike of when they won golf? Make decent looking shoes that leverage the technology people with recognize from other business units.

That's fair. AJ1's definitely have strong reactions on both sides, me personally I love them.

Those "plus" shaped nubs do look like they are quite a bit more than the flat bottom of the AJ1 though.

Glad a free is coming back, shame it's not just a TW13 outsole.

Also feel like we've been played... Everyone has been asking for a TW retro or another, Nike finally does it. Instead of being a new revenue stream for Nike golf with the TW14s, SP8s, etc coming behind it...

Seems like it's a farewell to TW and a relaunch of the free golf range now to replace the signature TW line

I love them for the range, simulators, etc. Perfect shoe for casual use and wearing them to and from the simulator spot without needing to change when I get there.

My guess is that Mint Green is just a sales organization. They have relationships with the courses and sell a whole bunch of brands.

Easier for Nike to not have to pay reps, better for mint green to offer more products, easier for pros to order from one less vendor. Plus Nike strategy has been to sell in fewer stores, pushing to its own web site.

I could see Nike going to fewer shoe models, 2 year design cycles, occasional profitable Jordan releases, still selling apparel but more basic stuff at PGATSS and Dicks/GG (likely their largest customer) and Kohls. For the “I golf 3x a year in scrambles for work” crowd.

i don’t think they’d get out of golf totally, as they want to cover all sports. I don’t see them abandoning a shoe market. (And god those next% have to make a ton when sold at retail. The soles are so cheap, they added color via airbrush paint…1-piece mid-sole…)

But they certainly don’t care much about golf. No marketing since ZIT launch with brooks. Like none.

i dont know about that. I would consider all of the player contracts to wear their stuff, marketing. They might not advertise, or at least not as much as in years past. But I certainly wouldn’t say they havent done any.

I didn’t count sponsorships of their handful of players. They do zero advertising. I think they shut down their social media accounts 2 years ago. I don’t think they even announce majors scripting for those sponsored pros.

Nike doesn't want to spend money on R&D and marketing for a sport they have no real interest in and that has small market share in comparison to some of the other sports around the world. Doesn't help of their sponsored players, Tiger only plays sparingly now, Brooks is on LIV which gets no viewers, Jason Day is a shell of his former self although at least still relevant, Fleetwood shows up a couple times a year but other than that is usually a middle of the pack guy who gets limited exposure. Rory and Scottie are really the only two Nike is getting any value out of since they are generally near the top of leaderboards week in and out, maybe you can toss Nelly Korda in there but not really. Nothing against Scottie but he has the personality of paint drying. Hard to justify continuing expenditures on a sport where only one guy really moves the needle and that guy only plays like 5 times a year. Nike will for sure get a better return on investment by shifting the money they were spending on golf to basketball or soccer. Do they like the sales they make on golf stuff? For sure. But the sales they make on basketball matter far more to them than golf ever will and nothing is going to change that
