AimPoint Express

The alignment tool has me investigating. I haven’t read too many, if any, negative reviews. I also found a level 2 coach close by who runs clinics.

For someone who enjoys playing fast, is this something tedious or is it quicker than it looks on TV etc. ?

I highly recommend Aimpoint Express. It's a simple process once you get calibrated. It can be as fast as you want - or as slow as you want. I use AE and play in groups up to 8 and finish in under 4 hours walking. Feel the ground, figure out the number, find an aim point, get over the ball, pull the trigger. The alignment tool/ball marker slows me down so I don't always use it in the AE process - unless the round is slow or it's a tournament and I'm trying super hard. LOL.

That's up to you. Depending on the length of putt it can take 3 or 30 seconds. All it does is consistently find you an "aimpoint".

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

It's pretty fast but I feel like it really requires a lot of practice to feel the difference in just 1% of slope. It's easy to tell break direction and the difference between say flat and 3% but for me, not so easy between 2 and 3%.

I agree Ziggy. That's where getting a smart level and putting in the time prior to playing pays off. I wouldn't take a putter to the green the first few times I was trying to learn the slope. The difference between the .5's to the 2.5's is subtle but these slopes makeup the majority of your putts. It's really does take practice time to get good at it, but once you have it you're golden.

Agree. It does take continuous efforts to learn and maintain the feel. Then, the whole bending your elbow part requires calibration if you play different courses.

On the other hand, there are value to go through the basics. The green often deceives the eyes. Using feet is more accurate.

Are you guys talking about the DVD? Is this available in any other format? I don’t own a device that plays DVDs anymore.

IMHO all the posts above are spot on.

I would highly recommend taking a clinic with a coach as the OP inquired about.  Money well spent.  I did go in for a tune about a year ago and it was worth it.  Doc reminded me to close my eyes and gave me some updated guidelines on short putts that really changed how I approach 6’ and less and I’ve had dramatically better results.

As far as pace of play, I find it works better if I work fast and make sure to close my eyes.  Don’t overthink it just like everything else in golf.

EVERYTHING you see the pros doing is tedious; they have a LOT at stake.

Slow players play slow, no matter what.  AimPoint in and of itself isn’t slow, I promise you. The slowest putters are the guys who wait until it’s their turn to putt, and THEN start walking around looking at their putt from all 4 sides, plumb bobbing, etc.  Fast players get their work done while everyone else is playing their shots, whether they’re in the fairway or on the green.  AimPoint is no exception.

I’ve been using Aimpoint Express since 2012 and its improved my reads considerably.

So, its not really faster to read the green, but your misses will be much better so you will end up playing faster with 3 putt avoidance and more tap ins.

Where it really is great is when you use putt view or golf logix greens books along with aimpoint express, the heat maps can help you learn as you go or validate your reads (foot calibration).

I’ve found that my low percentage putts, anything outside of 10’ with any real break, are much closer or get holed.  It takes discipline, practice and you have to commit to really using it, but it is well worth it.
