That is really popping!  Mine is not quite there yet. 

 

Went to Padden Creek Gardens about an hour ago and bought a bunch of tropical looking flowers for the Mexican patio.  Opening day is May 5th.  You're all invited for Pacificos and croquet.

Absolutely! But we'll have to toke in the Adirondack chairs, the patio is not in its full glory yet. The Adirondack chairs have broad arms, perfect for holding a Pacifico. And the view from them is not too shabby.

This morning’s round was very therapeutic, even though the temps were low and the wind was cold.  The sun was shining, birds were chirping, and turkeys were gobbling in the distance.  Needing to finish early, I hopped on the senior tees and proceeded to birdie 3 of the first 4 holes.  I finished my round with 6 birdies, 5 bogeys, and 7 pars for a 71.  I set a new personal best record with the 6 birdies, eclipsing my old record of 4 birdies in one round.

... 😍  The odds aren't the greatest but betting on Nelly to finish in the Top 10 and Top 5 is almost an automatic win. It keeps my picks for Top 10 with Tavatanakit, Tithikul, Yin and Grant at even and if just one can come through I am well ahead. Frankly I am not sure you can even call it "betting" as it is usually $10 on Nelly and $5 on the others. 🤪

A thing I've noticed in recent swing vids I've seen on the socials is ... she's improved her hip motion. She's doing a much better job of keeping her right hip back in the downswing while getting her left more back. 

 

I mean, not that it was in need of improvement. Just made it BETTER. Making a much more aggressive move which surely explains why she was absolutely bombing it when I saw her at Shadow Creek.

Absolutely perfect golf weather in Vegas but ... I cannot play this weekend. As mentioned in the Lounge; had a minor incident between the pups that lead to a terrible trainer mistake (that, as a owner and trainer of Rotties for 20 years, I should know better) and caught a decent chomp on my left hand that needed a trip over to Urgent Care. 

 

Sounds a lot worse than it was but there's still some stitches and swelling that prevent a proper grip 😂 Be fine in a few more days. 

 

First time in all those years of catching a chomp and man ... did I make the right decision for #TeamSecurity. It was unintentional from my ol Sophie girl and she let go immediately. I feel real bad for anyone on the intentional side where all that chomp goes in and there ain't any letting go. 

 

That ish hurts, boy.

I started this week off playing two rounds. It went like this.

Stan and I took the last two hitting bays on a packed range at Hendersonville CC for our warm up prior to our 12:30 tee time. I noticed behind me two men in their 30's had excellent swings and were really crushing their shots. It would not be the last time I saw those two dudes that afternoon. Stan and I got in a good practice putting session next. I asked Stan what type of grass is this green made of? Stan did not know. It was very bright green in color. The green condition was pure. It was obvious that they had been cut and rolled that morning. The starter came up to us and told us all play was starting on hole 10 and Stan and I would be following a twosome. I started out with two pars, then a bogey, and then two more pars. On #15 (4th photo) what I thought was the best looking par 4 on the course I set a 5 wood down before the creek crossing off the tee and then hit a 9 iron to the back right corner of the green. I made a 45 foot gently downhill right to lefter with 4 feet of break for my first birdie. Even. 16 is a short downhill par 5. I hit a solid drive and then all of a 3 wood that hit a bare spot in the fairway and kicked onward hard. It made the green. This short hitter can only get on a very few Par 5's in two. I just missed my eagle putt. Back to back birdies. 1 under. I missed the green on the next hole a 115 yard uphill par 3. I then chunked my chip. It was a bogey on the easiest hole on the course. Dang sloppy. Friggin' golf. Even. I made par on 9. Shot 35 on the front. 

A fairway and green on hole #1 with two putts to start the back 9. On #2 I got real accurate and made my 3rd career Hole in One with my 8 iron. 2 Under. After my ball dropped and I was hooting and hollering I see the twosome in front of us who are on the next hole's tee box which is close our green waving their hands and cheering. When we drove down to the green the two middle aged cats that I saw on the range with excellent swings walked over to me to shake my hand and give congratulations. Cool gesture. One says, "hey we have been sort of holding you up all day (they had pull carts), would you care to join us?" Stan says oh we are not in any hurry , thanks, but you guys go on ahead. I picked up great energy from the guys and followed Stan's answer with, " Let's do it boys. It's our first time here and we could use some local knowledge on how to play the remaining 7 holes. I added, I saw both of your fine swings on the range and am anxious to see you guys make some shots." I got wobbly after my Ace and made three straight bogeys. 1 over. It was getting warm and I was getting a little tired. On the last 4 holes I made two pars and two bogeys. I finished with a 73. The two members that we joined up with that had game and made plenty of birdies. Heck Mr. Blue shorts made 5 birdies when playing with us alone over the final 7 holes. He ended up shooting a 7 under 63! 🔥 What a player. Blue shorts was a +3 index. I asked him what was the grass on the greens and he told me Poa Anna. Mr. K said, yes the grass that most courses don't want mixing in with their bent or bermuda is welcomed at HCC, it's all Poa. There are no other courses that I know of that have Poa greens in Asheville so it was a different experience for Stan and me. I liked the greens and I thought their spring bright green color was splendid. The four of us had a fine time playing together so we exchanged numbers so we can do it again. First though they are going to come to CCA and play with us. What a fantastic afternoon I had on Monday playing Hendersonville CC for the first time. I liked the course, I enjoyed playing a few holes with some members who I just met, and the bright green greens rocked.

It started out rough on Tuesday.. bogey, double, par, bogey. +4 after 4. I made a useful par on the no. 3 handicap hole #5 a long par 4. On hole 6 the short par 3 that played 110 yards Big Frank says, "OK let's see another hole in one LP." I laugh and hit my PW straight at the pin. I looked juicy for a long time and came to rest a foot and a half from the pin. wow.  I made the putt for my first and what would be my only birdie in the round. My scorecard needed it. 3 over. Then it was more messy stuff. I made the turn with a 7 over 43. I was concerned that this was going to be a round in the mid 80's for me as I had nothing, couldn't get in any rhythm,  and the back 9 is quite a bit more difficult at CCA. I caught fire on the back and shot a 1 over making 8 pars and one bogey. I ended up shooting a 79.

 

I take many photos when playing but on Tuesday I thought I would do something different and take a few action videos during the round. Of the handful that I took Peter's chip from behind the green on #8 was the best. He made the putt to save his par. 

 

I've had a better first quarter of the 2024 season score wise than I have had in the past few years. I am pleased.

... Lots of beautiful outdoor pictures so here is a change of pace from indoors. Picked up the birthday present from my framer, given to me by my son. My favorite Western scene is the opening of Once Upon a Time In The West. As DMM knows, it is a masterpiece and studied in film classes. I think this artistic work really captures the feeling of a dusty spaghettis western and looks nice along side The Dark Knight.

the dinner sucked.  I offered to pay more to remove “that guy” and here I am.

So I finally have my first tee time of the year next week. My shoulder is still a mess but I’m tired of not playing. I’ve tried a few abbreviated swings in my living room just to see what it feels like. Rain today, so I can’t get the net out and truly hit until tomorrow at the earliest. We’re playing a very easy muni that’s flat, straight and has few hazards. More of a driving range with greens. Akin to the parking lot you’d take your kids when teaching them how to drive. Most of all, I’m looking forward to 4 hours with my buds!

I know everyone is waiting with bated breath about my recap.

 

I am even going into 9.  Need to get up and down from about 20.  Simple chip over the bunker, plenty of green, I mean really simple.  Hit it about 8 yards into the bunker and make the turn at 2 over.  Lost focus and followed it with another double.

 

One thing of note that was nice, it was my first time we had been paired together this year.  My partner on 16 asked me how/ why I was hitting the ball so much longer and that it looked really simple.  The score obviously wasn’t great but I really did hit the ball well.
