Wearing socks other than white with ones's white tennis shoes (didn't call them gym shoes) was a faux pas.  The anser to length......shorties.  All-Stars, Jack Purcells, Red Ball Jets as a youngster.  Always white.  The droopier the better.  Summer, no socks.  With frayed cut-offs.

Might want to try Chuck 70's.  Have a couple lows.  The fit, insole, quality of material, and construct is much better than standard Chucks.  Well worth the extra $25.00.  Think it's time to add a pair of black highs to the retro collection.

I have been thinking about graphite shafts in my irons.  From competitive skiing to baseball through college, I had partially torn rotator cuffs, which have healed over time, but created arthritic shoulders, never mind my back issues.  I just not sure what weight graphite I should think about trying.  Currently I’m playing Modus 105 regular.

Hey Fish - I have had torn rotator cuff tendon surgically repaired twice on my left shoulder and once on my right shoulder.  I think I played and coached too much baseball and softball in my younger days.  The doctor warned me that there wasn't enough tendon left to repair my left shoulder for a third time.  I have a shaft fitting scheduled for Aug. 8 to see which graphite shafts I should put in my irons.  I currently play TT Elevate 95 regular flex shafts in my irons.  I am interested in trying the Steelfiber, UST Recoil, and any other recommendations in different weights and flexes.  The cost of the fitting is $50 and I will then purchase and replace the shafts myself.  After being part of an experiment on another golf forum, I found I can hit lighter, more flexible, and less expensive driver shafts with less effort.  My current driver shaft is a $50 UST MP5 in ladies flex and I love it.  If you are interested, I will send you a link to the experiment thread.

So it has been a long road back and I certainly am still not close.  Not close enough to compete with @chisag yet. 🙂  But Tuesday was a step in the right direction.

But, I went up to the mountains to escape the heat this week.  I joined some friends to play Torreon - one of the nicer courses in the state.  We played the Tower course (other is Cabin).

While it was 112+ in the basin of Phoenix; the highs were mid 90s even at elevation. But thankfully a nice summer shower passed through and dropped the temps into the high 70s.  That was amazing relief!   However, every good seems to have an equal bad....those showers were accompanied with thunder and lighting.  Twice we had to backtrack to shelter because the lighting was right over us.  On one hole, it appeared as if it was with a few hundred yards as the whole hole was illuminated.  That was scary.

We got to the last two holes and I knew exactly where I stood.  I needed one par and one birdie to break 80 for the first time since my knee surgery.  On 17 I pulled my shot into a greenside bunker; made a tough bunker shot and then a 15-17 foot put for par! Whew.

Hole 18 is a decision - a conservative play is to the right fairway, aggressive is to carry the ditch.  The pin was tucked far right, so the conservative play would be far easier, but the shot to that pin would have been quite difficult.  "I didn't come here to lay up".  So I took on the carry and made it with a bit of room to spare..but not much.  However, now I had a perfect angle, a decent lie but in a bit of rough, and about 115 left.  I took dead aim and stuck it about 10 feet away.  When I got up there, my ball landed on what looked to be the only straight putt for that pin position....fate?  I also got a bit of a read from a chip coming from behind.  It was pretty straight with a bit of right to left at the end.  Right edge is my play.  Smooth stroke.......BIRDIE for a 79 on a tough course.

These are my "golfing" shoes.  Altra Lone Peak 6 trail runners.  All purpose sneakers.  I'm done with ill fitting, fugly, over priced golf shoes. With my regressing SS, not like I'm concerned with torquing out of my stance.  The outsole lugging is sufficiently aggressive to prevent slippage.  Big plus, they don't look like golf shoes.

... Nice round in tough conditions, especially stopping and starting. But RAIN! How awesome that must have been. Lightening is very scary and certainly no joke and I think safety first is always the plan so very glad to hear you found cover. 😇

I think you can now safely pitch for the Cardinals... and likely be the best starting pitcher on their staff.

They look sort of like Ecco's to me. Why do you prefer shoes that don't look like golf shoes?

Today there are many choices in looks when it comes to footwear for golf.

I have a dozen pair and many of them look different from one another.

We all are different Fella, and I guess I just appreciate the style end of golf attire more than most men do and find golf shoes to be cool looking.

So I have been aging rapidly and poorly on top of the pain in my hands.  So I first went to the Nippon NEO 950s and that helped.

On my recent Bandon tourney, we got a free fitting from TM.  So I tried all the graphite shafts and ended up with the Steelfibers.  I only have a few rounds on them at this point, but the feel after the round is noticeable...I am not as sore. Plus I was able to play the full 18 without feeling tired.

They are hard to get used to, being so light.  But it is forcing me to work on my swing and tempo.
