Have you considered Santa Barbara?

... It is certainly an option. It depends if I want to keep my toe in the acting waters. The older you get, the easier it is to find work, especially if you don't need the money. I would be doing it for the art, not for the paycheck.

... Making sure my Old Timer Membership Card is current, I just found out this year I can take a picture of a check and deposit it from my iPhone. Most of my paychecks are direct deposit but Foreign Usage and a few stragglers like insurance refunds come in the mail. Good to know I don't need to make a trip to the bank to deposit a $14.67 check.

At first I was reluctant to load my bank's app onto my phone.  But when I found out I could pay bills from it while drunk at the bar I was all in.  Not to mention depositing checks with it...

Man. I’m thinking on this and getting all kinds of mad.    How on earth with tactics like this do those idiots ( California)  run on a budget deficit?????

reminds me of being a credit card merchant.  And how they have access to your deposit account ….. someone issues a complaint … they just immediately go to your account and take all the money back. With no notice.  I find this to be untenable…. Which is why I haven’t accepted cards in 10 years.  How does one do day to day business without knowing what’s in the working account?  Madness.

My neighbor across the street owns the local Bait and Tackle store. He has had it for 20 years now and it is very successful especially among the local anglers. He quit taking Credit Cards years ago. He was smart about it though he rented space in front of his store and sign space out front to an ATM company. He gets rent on the machine and sign space plus a percentage of the fees on the machine. Smart move if you ask me. He has signs that state cash only no credit cards. All of the local customers are like me deal in cash so no problem. Most out of towners understand and get cash out of the machine. LOL I was up there one day and this guy from NY told him it was against the law not to take credit cards. BS not here my friend told him. The guy said it is in NY. My friend informed him he was not in NY but Garden City Beach Horry County SC and he did not give 2 damns about NY. He further told the guy to leave the store he would refuse to do business with him which BTW is SC law also.

... I remember those days. When I was in college I could call my local small bank in Greensboro and say I am gonna be a week late on my car payment and they would say "No problem and thanks for letting us know Sam". Not Mr Derence and a late fee if you are 1 hour past your payment date. I miss those days.

My bank is like that.  It's a statewide bank out of a small community just north of here.  Name is "Peoples Bank".  If you call them there are no phone trees, you must talk to someone in person.

I actually thought about you 🥰 when I was at the A’s game on Sunday. I was chatting w/a front office guy through the net after he noticed my Cal Poly hat. Santa Barbara came up and he mentioned that he was just there and how it’s one of his favorite cities to visit and how absolutely beautiful it is. And I thought of you 😊

I still think about the charming little wine bar I visited there just before teeing off at Sandpiper.

That is such BS to not accept cash- Lots of poor folks and off the grid people dont have or use credit/debit

The dollar bill still says "legal tender for all debts"

https://stateline.org/2021/05/11/paying-with-cash-retailers-must-take-your-dollars-in-these-states/

I deal in cash period. If you do not take good old US Currency then we do not do business period. We have no credit cards nor do we want any. The wife does have a debit card through the bank that she uses for groceries etc. But that account is a small account and if anyone hacks it they will not get much. Our power bill I pay at a bank across the street (that we do not do business with) and I pay cash. They have given up on suckering me with an automatic draft etc. The rent on our lot I pay cash every month at the office. The car(s) insurance I renew and pay every 6 months around the corner from me cash. In fact a golf bud owns that agency. I also pay the Homeowners insurance there every year cash. LOL a lot of places here when you pay with cash they look at you like you are a dope dealer or such. I deal in cash exactly like my Old Man did and my Grand Dad before. Went in Home Depot one day to get something and they asked Cash or Credit Card? I told them cash then they wanted to know if I wanted a Home Depot Card? Nope. Then they wanted my E mail address-- Told them I did not do e mail--- Then they wanted my Zip Code and phone number-- I finally had enough and left the stuff sitting there---- Have not been in there since--- I do all my business at a local owned and operated store south of me now. If I do business on the net I get one of those debit cards you buy at Kroger and load it up and use it.

When I was in college I bought two gold fish to keep me company.  When I went through the checkout the clerk asked if it was "cash or credit?"  I looked at the goldfish in the plastic bag and said, "That one's Cash and that one's Credit."  And that's how my fish got their names.

I switched from BofA - which I'd been with since like '96 - to a local credit union a few months ago.

Mainly due to the 4% interest they give me. While I keep most moneyz in my various investment funds, I like to keep a moderate balance in cash just in case I need to split the country 😂 So that 4% doesn't work out to chump change!
