Came across this by chance a little earlier today and had a watch. Interesting seeing that the MMT & Axiom were so close for Ian. I certainly planned to consider the overall numbers when I go test some shafts as well as feel, but I didn't quite realize how much variance there is in how some of the different graphite manufacturers distribute the weight along the shaft. Seems like the Axiom & MMT will also be two of the easier shafts for many to use without having to do a lot of tinkering with heavier grips, etc.

Still wish these were available to test at more retailers, but c'est la vie. Cost is higher, though if I end up with tighter dispersion, consistent flight, and something that's easier on my body forever, I'm game. Becomes a lot more cost prohibitive when trying to run them in multiple sets, AKA having WRXitis.

Do we know if OEMs will be offering these?

We asked this question while we were there and they said they were working with some companies. Based on the reviews and performance I would be surprised if some OEM’s don’t add it to their options matrix.

So currently have a Mmt 125tx in my 3 iron, due to some football injuries from years back I’m looking to go full graphite irons next year. I turn my Mmt 3 iron over too much and thinking I can maybe pick up more consistency with the axiom. Anyone comment on the two? Also, if you are rocking let’s say axiom 125x in the irons, what are people putting in wedges? Staying with steel?

I'm contemplating a set of 125x and I think I'd probably get 125s in the wedges. It's the same thing as going x100 irons s400 wedges.

There are no 125s available. They are only producing them in the X for now.

Oh, good catch, I thought they made an s and x.

Would the "tiger" trick not work in this case? Use an 8i 125x in the sw and LW?

It would, because the short iron profile starts at the 8 iron, then tipped in 1/2” increments for the 9, and P.

Right. So I officially change my answer to 125x 8i shaft 🤭.

This is what I'll likely do as I feel like it might be jarring going from graphite of one profile into steel from another.

They don't have specific 8 iron shafts for the Axioms. It's Long(2,3,4) Mid(5,6,7) Short (8,9,W). the "spinner" trick won't work for these unfortunately. You'd just have to play the short at specific wedge lengths but that won't soften things up as you want.

Unless you tip the short like an 8 iron I guess instead of a wedge. That may work actually.

That's what I meant. Get the "short iron" shaft and treat it like an 8i, which if I understand correctly would mean no tipping. (no tip 8i, 1/2" for 9i, 1" for PW).

I think I saw somewhere above that fuji says stepping won't do much, but, stepping doesn't do much in general anyways, unless you're moving 3 or 4 shafts up/down.

Back in the day I tried a modus 125TX 8i shaft in my wedges and I only could feel a difference on full swings. Pitches/chips, all the same.

I’m actually doing research now to put graphite in my wedges. Not sure if it will be the MCI model or Axiom, still trying to decide.

The shafts in the Short profile are for 8,9,P. So the 8 iron isn’t tipped when installing. The 9 is tipped 1/2” and the P is tipped 1”. Therefore putting an untipped Axiom short iron blank into a wedge then trimming to length is what the soft stepping wedge method is.

I was reading a comment a fitter said about Axioms and am curious what you all have tested. He said if you play X100, the 125x is not a good one to go to but the 105S is. for those who have played X100s, what did you move to for a similar axiom "feeling"

Dropping 20g+ doesn't sound like a solid idea. Weight is arguably as of if not more important than "profile".

I haven't hit them yet but I'm ordering Friday, And will have them built in 2 weeks. I played x100 for a while so I can offer some insight. From what I can tell... X100 should be a decent comparison. Similar weight, x100 is very linear with out being overly stiff. I'm curious why the fitter said it would be a bad one?

Basically he said that weight doesn't transfer from steel to graphite 1:1 and that weight in steel=torque where graphite isn't that way. His comment was that most people could see a bigger benefit from lighter graphite. He also said 105S=X100 from a fitting perspective...

As an FYI, there is a good thread over on the Tour forum where the guys that went on the Fuji trip are providing great insight and comparisons to other shafts, etc.

I was one of the guys lucky enough to be selected to go on the trip.

i'm assuming you can just soft step it for the wedges then.  The wedge is supposed to be tipped 1" with the axioms.  I would check to see if it's possible to put the 8 iron shaft (no tipping) and just butt trim it to length instead?

that's what we discussed after this post further down. It should be possible, these are parallel blanks.

TBH I'm not sure if I would leave them all untipped or gradually back off the tipping, i.e. instead of 8i straight in for the GW, only tip 3/4", then 1/2" on SW and then finally nothing on the LW, since I almost never swing full (most shots are probably between 10-75%).

Technically, I should be smart and tip none of them, see how they feel and perform then pull them if I want them a little tighter and then tip.
