Has anyone else heard that Axiom (or some of the them) have been recalled?

Why would they be recalled?

Buddy tried ordering them through his fitter/builder and was told that their batch was recalled.

So he got the shafts then had to send them back? Did your buddy contact @Fujikura Golf about it? I just got my set in a little over a week ago. Installed them and have had zero issues.

I'm ordering 125s... Would be nice to know my shafts are recalled or going to have issues.

Do we have a serial or lot# to look out for?

Do you mean 125X?  The ones out there for sale are not recalled. The overalls yield of 125 is what was low so for example if fujikura was expected 100 shafts a day, the ones that passed QC would be like Y number.  So those Y pass specifications but others don’t.  So you can imagine the increased costs if what you were thinking would pass QC didn’t.  So if you get a 125 then it passed. They don’t have this issue with the other weights.

Yeah that's way different than a recall... That's just lower than expected throughput.

I read the comments earlier in this thread about ideas for wedges below P, but what have people actually done? It seems to me the options are:

  • Tip Trim to P spec, and Butt Trim the remainder.
  • Back off Tip Trimming from P progressively by 0.25" and Butt Trim the remainder,
  • Do not Tip Trim, and Butt Trim to length.

I am leaning toward #1, but I would love to hear what people's experience has been.

Thanks!

I think all are good options and will depend on preference. When we asked @Fujikura Golf they agreed, but also threw in the MCI and Pro 115 shafts as options for wedges. You could even do the 8-iron shaft spinner hack.

My Axiom 105-S are still being installed, but I'm sticking with S400 in wedges until I get some playing time with my short irons. If I had to do it, I'd probably tip trim to PW for all wedges, but my concern is more around weight. Not sure I'm ready for a 105 gram shaft in my 54 & 60.

@CactusGolf has 105-S in his irons and Pro 115 in his wedges, so maybe he can chime in.

I definitely remember that conversation when we were out at Fujikura regarding the wedges.  Give the Axioms a round and I bet that you put graphite in the wedges quick.  It took me one round before I felt great about the decision.  Way easier (for me) to find the middle of the clubface with the Axioms in the short irons and Pros in the wedges.

I'm actually glad I went to the Pro 115s over the MCI Wedge mostly because of (perceived) height and spin.  I hit my wedges fairly high and didn't feel like I needed the added height or added spin.  One of the big problems with my wedge game is that they really get stopped by wind.

My current wedges work well for descent angle (I don't like the stop and spin back, prefer the drop bounce forward and stop).  I went with the Pro series as well because I remember having a positive experience when I had a Pro 2.0 in my Covert 2.0 driver.  Now, I think I could have benefitted from higher greenside spin in the MCIs, but the greenside spin could be resolved by using more 60*s than 56*s.

Thanks. Great feedback. I think part of me is also stuck in an outdated mindset that we need stiff heavy wedge shafts no matter what, for perceived consistency, but you can get that with graphite too. Good reminder on spin though, will have to chew on that one a little, although I'm more of a "keep the ball low and get it rolling" player around the green.

For those installing Axiom in taper tip (0.335) hosels, are you reaming out hosels or sanding the tips? It sounds like most are sanding, but I cannot tell. I am switching out Recoil Proto graphite shafts for Axiom in my Miura KM700. The Axioms are parallel tip, and I have a choice between reaming out the hosel to get them to fit or sanding the tips of the shafts to taper them to fit. I am pre-disposed to sanding the tips to avoid adjusting the KM700 heads. I wanted to get this group's thoughts on this approach. My view is that I'd rather not tinker with the heads at all, but wanted to see if I'm thinking of this correctly. Thanks in advance!

Sanding tips for the reasons you mentioned.

One last question: What is the playing length of the 6 iron or 7 iron that results from just tip trimming per the instructions? It's been suggested to me that it will end up longer than standard if they don't butt trim a little off of everything. Thanks again!!

All shafts have to be butt trimmed to final length.

  • 3 weeks later...

I posted in another Axiom thread, but I have roughly 5 rounds with the Axiom shafts and I am very happy so far.  Dispersion is clearly better with these shafts.  The feeling I get is that the face of the iron is squaring up nicely at impact.  Distance is similar to my Steelfibers, ball flight is slightly higher than Steelfibers, and spin is slightly more which I needed to hold greens better. I am playing another 3 rounds this coming weekend, so I hope to see if these findings hold up, or if it is just the honeymoon period.  My last 4 rounds have been below my scoring average at my club, and that is largely due to better iron play.  I do have these in my wedges (just butt trimmed to length) and the wedges have been great, just like the irons.  Very accurate.

Great thread! Last time went through the full MMT thread, and now here for again some new ideas! Currently playing TC201s with MMT 125S hard stepped.

Bought a ZX5 3iron for a 105 X Axiom test. With respect to the irons, do I go straight in to be soft stepped? Any views on feel or stiffness vs MMTs? 4i carries around 210yds.

Next step probably reshafting my 4iron as it’s too close to my 5iron.. MMT or Axiom, it will be.

Not apples to apples but I have a spare 125S mmt in a 6i and I have a 105X axiom long iron shaft in a PXG utility iron. To me, the axiom feels smoother and with a higher bend point. Mmt feels like it kicks from the middle and axiom feels like it kicks under my hands a little more.

I'm getting 125X in a set of pxg blades later this year once they sort things out. I'm expecting similar feels.
