Any Ping G400 / G410 / G425 / G430 iron players using the set SW and LW ?

I gamed the G425 irons last season and hit them pretty well.  Really liked the PW and UW.  Which got me to thinking.

Last 2 years I gamed CBX Full Face 56 and 60* wedges and were ok, but didn't hit them as consistent as I would have liked.  This off season picked up a 56* and 60* Mizuno ES21 wedges.

They have been ok at the range but with the 115g steel shafts they feel super heavy compared to my G425 Alta graphites.

Since you can still order G425 irons I thought about adding the S and L wedges.  My irons are retro lofted so they would end up being 56 and 60* with retro lofting.

Anyone playing G series irons also using the set wedges instead of normal speciality type wedges?  How are chipping and bunker shots with them?  I noticed the UW has a nice V type sole which is similar to the CBX wedges so I thougth the S and L might be more playable than expected.

I recently picked up a G425 sand wedge that I use for chipping and then just went CBX 2 wedge for my lob wedge.  The sand wedge is great for chipping but I have not tried it out of the sand yet.  I know a lot of guys in my club use the set wedges and get up and down out of the sand all the time with no issues

I'm looking on ordering the G425 irons and will get the SW & LW also. My thinking behind this is that when I played my Vokeys I never felt comfortable taking a full swing. They were great for chipping or short shot's, but not a full swing. So thinking that a wedge that looks like the iron might help me make a complete full swing. I know that it's all in my head.

I recently picked up some G425's with graphite shafts.  I added the SW, partially because I figure that with a graphite shaft it will make my bag lighter for carrying.  I've played once and it seems to work just fine.

My former sand wedge is a Vokey TVD K grind (Titleist/Nippon 105T shaft, like my irons).  My steel shafted clubs are in timeout while I determine if I can play decently with graphite shafted irons.

I also play the G425 irons in graphite shaft (recoils) and I added a SW and love it.  I did not think there was an option for LW for the G425's but I could be wrong.  I just like the forgiveness and I think they are great around the greens and out of the sand

I am playing the Recoils ES 780 F4 and they are an excellent shaft.  They are stiff flex so if you are looking for something not as stiff look at the F3 or F2 versions.

They are offered in 4i down through LW.

I did the opposite, use a specialty wedge for 46/50/54/58. My fitter made me order a set PW so I can get a better deal on resale eventually. It still has the sticker on it in my basement. 😆

Weirdly with my old Ping i3s I have all of the clubs from 1i down through LW, including the PW/SW/GW. They're my favorite clubs and I wanted the full set.

I'm playing the 425 wedges, all the way down to LW.  I've only had them a month but so far so good.  I had a Callaway 58 degree, 9 degree bounce wedge that I used for greenside bunkers.  It would either dig, leaving the ball in the bunker or fly over the green if I tried to thin it to prevent digging.  I wanted a LW with more bounce, which the 425 has.  Now I just drop the club into the sand behind the ball and it pops right out onto the green.  Easy peasy.

Have G430 5-LW. DG 105 R300. Found the 45, 50, 54 and 58 to be solid for my game. Very comfortable with gaps from about 120 in and bunker play has been normal. I am not one to mess much with opening the face on the 54 or 58 so it’s fine for me.

I haven't seen one of these in person, but do the SW and LW (I guess the 54/58* clubs) have the eye sole?  The photos on the site make it look like they do but I am not sure if it is just a way they edited the photos or if it is an optical illusion.  As you can see, it appears like the 45-58 have a concave sole similar to the ES model wedges they put out with their Glides.

I tried the sand and lob in both the G410 and G425.  Great on full swings, easy to chip with greenside, but not terribly versatile if you like to play open-faced shots.  I could not get them to work for me out of the sand, though.  I don't know if it was the shape or the bounce.  I am fairly proficient out of the bunkers, but could not play them at all.

The 54 and 58 soles look like the 50 just wider. As mentioned if you want to manipulate the face, there are better options.

I bought the matching SW and LW with my G410 irons. I agree with you. Great on full swings, easy to chip, but not versatile on a variety of shots. I picked up a Glide 3.0 Eye2 58 to try and fell in love with it. My sand play improved and I was able to play more shots around the green. I kept playing the G410 SW since I use my LW for most around the green stuff. I picked up a Glide 3.0 54 Eye2 last month and now have it in the bag. It's been a good addition. I think the the stock wedges are good but their are better options.

Play Ping G irons thru Gap wedge (actually Raptures- same thing) but I need to cut through concrete bunkers at my club so play low bounce non-set SW and LW. Wide soles just bounce into the ball with disastrous results.  Have asked the greenskeeper numerous times why they don’t put some darn sand in there so we can play a normal sand game. No reply.
