Bob did it! PXG balls drop to $34.99!

Well, well. PXG just dropped the price of their balls by $5. Now in stock and priced at $34.99 which is where I expected them to be given they are identical in almost every way to Pro-V1X. Thoughts?

That's interesting.  I got an email earlier from PXG that looks exactly like yours, but with the price of $39.99.  When I go to the web site, it says $39.99.  Methinks the marketing department is testing responses to the two different price points.

I actually just went to the website myself and it was $39.99. Methinks the price was supposed to be $34.99 and marketing still has an old asset.

judging by the fact the header on this emails says pxg heroes. I assume this is that pricing and retail is still 39.99

Admittedly haven't tried them myself yet, but I have not exactly heard "identical in almost every way to the ProV1x" from any reviews.

FWIW, the TXG review today used almost those exact words. Other reviews have not been as glowing, so it'll be interesting to see how they fare over the year.

That is the exact review I was referencing, the most recent TXG review. James Robinson and another UK YouTuber also came to the same conclusion. Rick Shiels has been the only negative view that I've seen.

I think this is the least surprising thing ever. Parsons views himself as a disruptor. There's nothing disruptive about a $49 premium ball.  The move was always similar to his other stuff, put a big price on it initially and then drop it down as a great 'sales' price.

 

It's sort of like Kohls.

I did get the hero's discount when I purchase my driver because my father in law was a marine. Maybe this $34.99 is the rate for veterans only and the public pays $39.99.

That is the "Heros" price. Balls are still $39.99 for the general public.

Well, many are saying they are made at the same plant. That said, I would never game a Costco ball. The Costco logo is too old-fashioned for me and the balls are borderline gray. I prefer a bright white ball and love the pxg logo.

Count me as one of those people who finds them overly firm and mediocre at best.

I played a Kirkland 3 pc ball today.  It's a little beat up after 18 holes but it's ready for another 18 and can't beat the price.

Having played both, I think this (PXG) is less spinny on woods and irons and is faster off the face. Same/similar cover as Kirkland but core is different. 
 

Wish people would just try them for themselves but such as the opinions on PXG clubs went, the balls are too. 😂

I have ordered some. I am too much of a crazy person not to give them a go.. 

 

but, there has been some info released on them and where they are made. This ball is not an in house PXG design..

sorry didn’t mean to sound like I was calling you out.. just speaking generally. I was a PXG hater early on.. I do feel like the Gen 1/2 stuff was bad.. The only club I liked was the 3/5 wood Gen 2 as they were nice and shallow and long. Fast forward to Gen4 and I’m a believer. I still think they iterate off this ball and improve it like the clubs. As long as people give stuff a try and stick to what works! 🍻

I’m no big Rick shiels fan, but James Robinson praises everything he reviews. All his review videos have a tagline for clickbait suggesting it could be rubbish but then he says everything is great.

Quick update from MyGolfSpies. They confirm ball is produced at same plant as Kirkland, but ball is much different... I don't think they have the engineering resources internally so maybe they are using subcontractors for this venture?? It's compression is also VERY high, which is why it sounds/feels hard. Hard=long.

IS THE PXG XTREME BALL JUST A KIRKLAND WITH THE PXG LOGO?

While I’ll concede the core coloring of the PXG ball bears a strong resemblance to that of the original Kirkland, the core of the PXG ball is unique and proprietary to PXG. From a compression standpoint, it falls in the upper 90s which is appreciably firmer than the Kirkland ball.

I'm not a PXG fanboy, but if you can get over the firmness, it is a great ball for $35. It has the same distance as the TP5x and ProV1x and spins around the greens just as well as both for me. The complaint on the Kirkland is it spun too much off the driver and irons costing distance but had plenty of greenside spin. Maybe the PXG core with the same Kirkland cover is a winning combination. PXG seems to have figured something out and I will play both the ProV1 and PXG, but I will say that I hit a PXG into some brush and couldn't find it. I did find an almost as good as new ProV1 and I was good with that trade, if that means anything.

I bought 3 doz for 34.99 a doz and shipped free if you purchased $99 or more.   $35 a doz is a deal this day and time.   If all these reviews are true, then I saved $45 is the way I look at it.   Mine did get stuck on the ship from China for a min and just arrived this week, but I am going to try them out tomorrow.   May report back with results.

Pros:  Distance wise, I didn't lose anything off the driver or irons and I personally think it feels great coming off my Gen 5 0311p's.  

 

Con:   I generally chip low skidders with ProV1 that hit once and lock up quickly.  The PXG ball left me outside of my normal gimme or easy kick in putts range a couple times even with SD2 wedges.  This lead to a couple bogeys, rather my normal par saves when missing greens.
