Training aids that helped you?

Recommended Posts

Hey team, curious what training aid helped you the most and what did it help fix?

My main issues, I think are tempo and staying on plane. I can get to fast and just all hell breaks loose. Would the orange whip or your striker ball be beneficial for me to practice at home?

Also putting needs a lot of work if anything in particular helped you.

Impact bag and tour striker smart ball. Both help me position better at impact.

The below works extremely well. Key is to put it above elbow. I really hate 99% of training aids because nearly all of them help with some things but create other issues at the same time (I.e. smart ball helps you get in sync but can easily get you too narrow).

Orange whip can help a little with a quick transition.... I still use mine from time to time to help with slowing things down a little...

The biggest thing for me was grinding it out at the range... I had to  really work on slowing things down... Hit 5 or 6 balls... Then take a pause for a few seconds as I found I would get into that head space where I just start hammering balls with no real thought process...

Tour striker smart ball has helped me a ton... Getting that connected feeling...

Putting mirror and laser level are my new ones that I plan to use this year for putting...

$2 home depot driveway marker was the greatest invention ever to help with the over the top...

Impact bag are great for slowing things down as well... As you can work on tempo at home

The aid that's helped me the most has to be my Live View camera. So much so that I upgraded to the LVPro2.

The aid that I think may be one of the best I've seen/tried, might be the GravityFit. My golfing buddy uses it during every practice session and it has cleaned up his swing plane a lot. I tried it once or twice and was really impressed with it.

My favorite is called the Whippy Tempomaster. It's very similar to the more recent Lag Shot. These soft shaft clubs require you to get control over your tempo and sequencing to hit proper shots.

I like that you can actually hit shots with them and get immediate feedback from your ball flight. It's relatively easy to carry that feel to a real club for a shot or two.

I get less value from training aids that just teach positions and don't allow you to execute golf shots while using them.

Was planning on getting some of these but I got turf in the backyard and can’t stick them in the ground. Will need to figure someway to get them to stand at an angle.

The range I hit at uses matts and I just turn a bucket upside down and slide the stick in on a angle...

Maybe a small cardboard box or something like that

Is this a specific aid or just a random largish ball?

Smart ball for a more connected takeaway, it's tough to get fast with it too.

Swingyde when I was learning where the clubface should be relative to my hands/wrists/arms.

Swing extender to keep my right arm from overbending.

For putting I like to use a line on the ball if my stroke feels off and trying to get it rolling more online. Other than that I just work speed more than anything. All different distances, uphill/downhill, learn to control speed and a lot will fall into place.

Practice!  And practice only the problem that causes a compensation.  I am guilty of trying to fix the compensation instead of the problem that causes it.

I found most training aids didn't do what I want and didn't fix the cause.

That said, the only aids I'll use are alignment sticks on the ground for target aim, backswing plane and putting practice.

Is there an example of this somewhere I can reference?

He says to put the ball a foot after the stick

My coach had me put it at the end of the stick.

To make it harder I would move the ball further under the stick

I also put the stick a little higher

More of a 45

I had a large chunk of wood in the garage that I drilled holes it at different angles and places for all the different positions that I could think of using the stick in.  If I come up with another needed position I'll get the drill out again.  Works great.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
