I've been thinking that motherhood softened Suzanne Pederson up a bit. I like her energy in this opening ceremony. 

 

US opening ceremony attire is uniform but couldn't be more boring. The Euros tend to get the fashion right for this event, but bright yellow, Spanish style dresses with sneakers didn't work for many of them.

 

Christie Kerr should be here in a captaincy or broadcast role. Is Wie-West going to be in studio? Glad that we get Judy back!

Nelly was great as a rookie in 2019, she went 3-0-1, but was mediocre in 2021 (2-2-0):

She's been on or off, but when on she was on at the right time.  Maybe figure she's only good for 1/2 of the day (joking)?

 

But of the automatic qualifiers, Vu, Zhang, and Kupcho sit the first session.  Lexi gets the start...

 

Hard to say if it's good or bad, will see who goes four or five matches (and anyone at one or two).

There's been a fair amount of talk that the course is somewhat grueling and that the temps will be well over 80.  Perhaps she is thinking she wants to keep some key players fresh to bring in.  In an event that seems to rely on momentum, enthusiasm, morale, not sure that's great, if they get off to a poor start.  Leading with Lexi is a big statement, you could choose to characterize it as either a "double or nothing" or a "nothing to lose" strategy.  Given Lewis's rumored input into Hanwha pairings, not sure if she isn't just personally keen on Lexi.

As I'm a euro I'm still licking my chops at these pairings. The only US pair I'd give a shout to would be Nelly and Corpuz...as has been said earlier, momentum and getting a good start is key. Can't wait, will be great watch over the next 3 days wherever the dice falls.

I would have preferred to see Lexi in Four Ball instead of Foursomes (alternate shot). But, what do I know.🤷‍♂️

Okay, so I am here and the opening ceremony was a shocker when Stacy Lewis uttered "Lexi Thompson" as her first combatant. What? I only expected Lexi to play on Sunday. BUT, I'm a Lexi fan and I am here to support her. Yes, the yellow dresses were god awful but KNEW Laura Davies would not wear one when her name was called. Hah.  Surprised Suzann supported it BUT $$$ rules. The US Gals looked totally classy. It was windy here, so glad they had longish dresses. Our first bus in the morning is 6:30am. Why am I still UP?

 

After the ceremony, the  best Queen tribute was supposed to play and they did (I think) but first they kicked everyone OUT of the stadium and expected us to hang around. UGHH, terrible management as most of us just left and I was really looking forward to it, felt sorry for the band. They needed to do alot better on this point. BIG disappointment.

 

In general, what a beautiful part of the planet. The group we came with had a 2 day golf tournament at 2 different courses (El Paraiso and Amenara) and it was a blast. Winner announced Saturday at our Cocktail Reception. Team USA vs Team America.   Fun times.

Yes, agreed.  Since SL has fallen to whatever powers that be to play LT in alt shot right out of the gates, it's like she's giving loosing a chance.

Lexi's last 12 tournaments. She broke 70 only 5 out of 28 rounds. And she is starting over Lilia Vu, and Rose.

Yeh I was shocked to see Lexi even playing the first day. I know she actually qualified for the team but I don't see how.

 

Hopefully none of her matches come down to her having to make a putt for the win. Don't get me wrong I like her and would love to see her make several key putts. May turn her game around.

 

I followed her at the Chevron Championship this year and she looked like she didn't even want to be there.

She qualified by the criteria that have been established for years.  She qualified fair and square.  So tired of this take.  Sure, nobody would have blamed her if she declined to play due to poor form, but she's not in Spain because of some favor or undeserved captain's pick.

 

I'm not even a Lexi fan but will be rooting for her more than any other player because of stuff like this.

 

All I really take away from Vu and Zhang and JKups sitting the first session is that Stacy isn't likely to play anyone all five sessions.  She may believe that it's too hot, the course is too much to walk 36 back to back, whatever.  It's fair to question who she picked to play in the morning session, but she's got reasons.

 

Everyone, including Stacy, tips the Euros as favorites.  I haven't checked the line, but would expect the most predicted result would be around 16-12 Euros.  I think the Americans can outperform that, just not sure if they win.

Team Europe's yellow dresses were absolutely awful (they should be deducted 1 point 🙂 )

Hopefully the golf will more than make up for it...

 

I would have loved to see Laura Davies in that yellow dress 🤣
