Yes, they do wear out easily, especially as the steel used gets softer. Any steel with less carbon content (S20C or S15C) will be easily dinged. The plus, is the feeling at impact, it is a lot softer and not too harsh, compared to higher carbon cast steel.

There are a lot of myths and misconceptions about cast vs. forged out there. Casting and forging are just processes. The feel of the wedge is determined by the metal used, not by the process. We cast the softest metal available, 8620 mild carbon steel. People think we cast our wedges because it’s cheaper. That’s not the case. It’s because of the number of grinds, lofts, bounces that we have available. We start with the Tour and when we find a shape or grind we really like, we’re able to make a tool for it quickly. The casting process is able to replicate the grind much closer than if we forged it. Think about this: 80 percent of the wedges on Tour are cast. I’ve never had a player come up to me and say, “Voke, this wedge doesn’t feel good. I really wish it was forged.” These are the best players in the world. And that’s my R&D department.

 

Mild carbon steel is what is used in most forged irons. The feel of a forged iron compared to a stainless steel cast iron is a result of the steel used, not the forging process. As with most golf products, people think if it’s hard to get it must be better. If the pros wanted forged Vokey’s they would get them. But none of them have them. Look at all the non Titleist contract players who play Vokeys. If they thought forged wedges were better they could play Miura or another brand.

A cast wedge from Vokey (cast in China) is around $5 per head. A forged head of the exact look will be $20-30. I disagree but it is 100% about cost, but also repeatability of the grind.

awhile back to help with longevity and have enough bounce and grind options as well as shaft options to fit anyone. 

This.  The T22’s are amazing.  This is coming from a longtime previous Vokey player.
