Scotty nuts, time travel!

Browsing the archives on Scottycameron.com got me to thinking: if you could go back in time to any year and walk into a golf shop that has every model available for that year, what year are you picking, and which putters are you grabbing? 
 

Now obviously with resale and the market nowadays it’s easy to say you’d grab one of everything and sell them… so for the sake of debate let’s say you can only walk out with 5 putters total, and the idea here is you’re keeping them not grabbing the most valuable ones for resale. 
 

For me, I think it’s a toss up between 1998 and 2001. But I think I’d have to go for 2001 and I’ll take:

 

1) TeI3 Newport 

2) 34” 340 Mil-Spec 

3) Pro Platinum Del Mar 3.5

4) Studio Design 2.5 

5) Studio Design 3.5

 

The thought of being able to pick these all up for $270 each 😫😫😫

 

So, what about you?!

This time period when I worked at a golf course when I was in HS.  

 

I would have loved to been able to afford a Pro Platinum Newport 2, Studio Stainless Newport or a Teryllium Newport 2.

 

I remember oogling them in members bags and in the pro shop all the time

Considering I'm still using the TeI3 Santa Fe I bought in 2003 that would be my first choice, but if I could go back and buy any other model brand new...

 

I'd probably get a Pro Platinum Newport Mid Slant. For some reason I always found those to be really beautiful (second to the TeI3s of course 😉).

I'd grab a ton of lefty Studio Stainless NP2.5 and yeah lots of cheap Tour and CT putters.

lol interestingly enough, circle Ts were actually harder to acquire back then (but yes, certainly way cheaper)

I was close with a good titleist rep - I had a newport and a tour rat both from him that cost me a tenth of what they sell for now

OG button back for me.. saw 10s-20s of them listed for 700-900 each now (post covid ) for 2K+. Even without the prospect of making money, I just wanted a NP1 and NP2 to own and game.

A lot of those are beat up too.  I have the champions choice and to be honest the older one is much cleaner.

Is that T22 tei3 really worth the cash people are asking for? I would pay $800 sellers are asking $1750 and have been hanging on to them for a while now

I paid £600 for mine brand new at release and to me it was worth every penny considering the current Newport is £429 over here.

 

Would I pay the £1000-1200 I see them going for used? No. However it is tempting me to consider a sale.

the list prices for Scotty’s on eBay have gotten out of control. Most are worth 50-75% of what they’re listed for

Totally agree. Hard to justify paying $300-400 for a banged up Studio Select ( and I love my Studio Select NP2) when I can buy a 2020-23 model for that price.

I think the prices on the older models would come down if something similar was released new.  As long as new releases have massive cherry bombs the old models without them will continue to hold their value.
