Full Swing KIT Member Experience and Testing! Follow Along Here!

Recommended Posts

I got in some indoor practice last night; this was in a garage with a screen. The KIT continued to work well (the ProV1 RCT ball helped in this respect and made a difference over a regular ball), and the ability to toggle back and forth between video and stats within the app is in my opinion a pretty killer function. I now need to dial in how I plan to use it most effectively, because I tend to get too many thoughts going on when I review data too often.

One software item I look forward to spending time with is their game play functionality, which we should be getting access to soon. I was just using a practice session last night, but I had my brother with me and I wasn't able to toggle between Player 1/2 (or I just wasn't tech-savvy enough to figure it out...), which made the functionality a little bit clunky and I ended up going in and deleting his shots out after the session so that my stats continue to build without being tainted.

Yeah, the Scottsdale National complex sounds incredible. I’d love to play all the courses there a few times.

Who knows -and wishing- maybe it may make GolfWRX testing one day... THAT would be incredible, as $30,000 for the 2 Day experience but I doubt anyone here can afford the yearly fees of $800K to $1M with the Doctor Evil voice 😂

I mean they had Rick Shiels and Peter Finch, they GOTTA have the WRX boys over. One Day

5/27/23 - first range session with FSK - using iPad for interface.

Got to range and took less than 60 seconds to turn FSK on and connect. The kit has some weight to it so after setting my down range view I didn’t need to move it or worry it falling over with a gust of wind. All data was displayed perfectly after impact on the front facing OLED display showing my preferred view of Carry/Launch/Spin/smash. Customizing the display view was even easier for me using the iPad but preference going forward would be to utilize my iPhone just so I don’t have to bring the iPad with me to the range. Switching between clubs was easy as it just requires you push the current iron button then choose your next club choice and whether you want to switch targets or stay with current target (less than 30 second total from initial click to confirming choice and back to hitting next shot). So far very impressed with simple process for general use on range.

LOL, I have to bring the iPad, it's my only iOS device in my family. Can't wait for the Android implementation of the Full Swing app.

Very nice groupings by the way 👍 Also looks like the Normalized mode is turned on in your KIT screen shot (blue N slider button).

Normalization is a feature that allows you tweak the algorithms for the elevation. IN KIT, you can see the actual ball data or you can set KIT to the normalzied mode.

Details here:

https://www.fullswinggolf.com/2022/12/02/full-swing-kit-now-includes-normalized-data/

It looks like when KIT is in normalized mode, BLUE is used for the data points effected by normalization.

I played with it yesterday on the range, set the elevation to the true elevation of the Balboa GC range, approximately 650 ft. The FS app can automatically find the elevation but since my iPad is WiFi only, it also allows you to enter the elevation value yourself.

There is a temperature normalization as well but it looks disabled for now. Perhaps the next FS KIT update will open this.

The display parameters effected by the normalization also switches to the BLUE color, in this case the APEX and CARRY, apparently

Battery life of 5 hours was about right. Had my KIT on from 5PM and I left the range at 7:40 it was down to 55% battery

Going to take KIT out to golf with the guys today. Hope to get some shots and feedback. None of my guys have really been fitted and seen a launch monitor so it will be interesting feedback.

Oh, @getair23 gonna take KIT & the 6 pack of beer in my push cart 😉

Second session with FSK and just like the first one very little time spent setting up the unit but this time we did have two disconnects between iPad and unit but both were easily reconnected in a matter of seconds.

Using range balls again but also dropped a couple new ChromeSoft X balls to compare data with 7i and driver. While my 9 handicap was on display perfectly the full swing kit registered each shot and with the exception of 1 deleted bad shot, each shot’s data was displayed within a second of impact except for spin and carry which displayed about 1-2 seconds after impact down range occurred. Great experiences so far but to get feedback back from a long time user I was able to meet the teaching pro at the range I’m using for testing - PGA teacher / member Ryan Kolk. He and his team have 4 units amongst themselves and use them both personally and with their students during lessons. Ryan spent time dialing in his knowledge of the range balls vs proV1x (gamer) to better understand the FSK and he believes the consistency is there with the FSK and within trackman and GC/Foresight models. His preference is to use FSK while testing shafts and new product before using them in his personal playing bag which as a GolfWRX member is 100% appreciated. For his better students he believes the information like Face to Path and Club Path that FullSwing Kit offers is great to help them understand what their swing is doing and use that information to better themselves.

Using indoors, how much more accurate is the data when using Titleist RCT balls vs. normal ProV1's?

Can the Full Swing Kit connect and display data directly to a smart TV that I have mounted in my garage, or do I have to display the data on an iOS device and then mirror that device on my TV?

RCT:

Integrating Titleist’s Radar Capture Technology provides the clearest radar imaging that results in superior accuracy when it comes to indoor spin measurement which impacts numerous data points within the Full Swing KIT measuring spin rate, benefiting, in particular, high ball speed/low spin rate scenarios.

TV:

You would mirror your iPad or iPhone to your tv from the Full Swing app or e6 Connect app.

I am curious (I haven't followed this LM at all) - does it only come with a range program? I like that it works with iPad. Does it have SIM software too or what SIM programs work with it? Looks like it has to sit WAY back from where you are hitting - indoors that can be challenging. Is there a minimum unit to screen distance?

I bet you guys LOVED playing a Fairmont course. I played both Fairmont courses in St. Andrews last year and they were top notch, top notch!

Full Swing is compatible currently with e6 Connect (and currently have a free Virtual Gameplay package) that has a variety of practice areas and courses.

Indoors distance behind the golfer can be 8-10 feet with 8-10 feet of ball flight.

Outdoors for full ball flight we recommend placing the unit 10 feet behind the golfer.

Added more updates to my Review Post #3. Tonight, I added in sections for the Full Swing app, the 16 LM data points

I think this will really give a great idea what the LM and app is like with the screen shots for anyone to peruse.

Coming up tomorrow or this weekend is my little comparison between the Foresight GC3 and KIT. I borrowed my good friend's GC3 but unfortunately I don't have the Foresight app so have to make do with the unit's display numbers. No fancy graphics.

Also...I am trying to line up a comparison of the numbers between a GC Quad and Full Swing as well.

@FullSwingSimulators GR8 to have you here!!!!

And since you are here. I had a session this evening. Everything worked great except I noticed that there was no videos of each of the shots. I've had 4 other sessions before this and they all had the video with each shot. Any idea what could be going on? Yes, the video button is set to ON in the LM and app settings.

I'll try it again next time I am at the range. For full disclosure, I am using an iPad Air 2 (Generation 2) so its one generation before your compatibility minimum, Generation 3 but it does have the latest iOS updates

Battery Life

I was playing with KIT for 3 hrs yesterday at the range with a friend. Today, it was like an hour and half. Battery level dropped to 29% so the stated 5 hour battery life was right. My poor ole iPad dropped from 100% to 50% in today, may be its time to upgrade it 😂

We are talking a protective case, KIT, a charger and a USB-C cable, that's it for the hardware. The protective case is well made and padded, sings of quality in the materials used.

A nice hidden compartment inside hides the charger unit and the thick USB-C cable. We are talking a large gauge cable so it's a little stiffer than the ones we are used to from our cellphones.

On the other side of KIT is the ON/OFF button. Hold it down 2 seconds to start. It will take about a minute to boot up. There is a rubber piece that you can use your finger nail to loosen and it will reveal the Unit's connecting USB-C port:

Hold the same power button down to power off KIT, takes about 15 seconds.

16 LAUNCH MONITOR DATA POINTS

Full Swing KIT captures up to 16 club/ball launch monitor data points per shot:

Carry
Spin Rate
Club Speed
Ball Speed
Smash Factor
Launch Angle
Horizontal Angle
Side Carry
Face Angle
Club Path
Face To Path
Attack Angle
Spin axis
Apex
Total
Side Total

Using the app, it will display all 16 data points. Below is an example of one of my iron shots. Pretty impressive data captured by KIT

16points.jpg.04d6a8428928ba82a6d91dfff33f66bf.jpg

On KIT itself, the launch monitor display can be configured to show a single data point, or it can show a grid of 4 data points where the golfer choose which ones to display!

Here is one of my buddy's driver swing. KIT was configure via the app to show Carry, Club Speed, Spin and Ball Speed:

USING KIT

The Full Swing KIT launch monitor  can be used in 2 modes: Free Mode or Session

FREE MODE. This is where the golfer is just using KIT launch monitor only without connecting an app to it.

KIT will show the launch monitor statistics on a single shot basis. It does NOT save any information. This is a great mode to use if you just want to train at the range using basic information.

Using the buttons on the side of the Unit (see Picture above), the golfer is presented with a limited menu and can various functions like lining up KIT, club selection, normalization.

Below is an example of the functions available that the golfer can choose:

KIT_menu.jpg.5a2aed93446cd7ce13e3b57ef6700841.jpg

SESSION. This requires the golfer to install the Full Swing iOS app on their iPad or iPhone. Then they need to connect the app to KIT. Once connected, the golfer can initiate a SESSION through the app. A session is exactly that - KIT will record and save every shot while the session is open.

Each shot in the session will have a video and up to 16 data points per shot.

FULL SWING iOS APP

FS_app.jpg.5299e269b5ca8b090c99bc4f56d25a8d.jpg

As of June 2023, Full Swing app for KIT is Apple iOS only. Android users, I'm sorry, you're out of luck. I have approached the Full Swing team about an Android version so it's on their radar but not sure when this will happen.

Full Swing does require a later Generation of iPad or iPhone. Here is the comparability list (from fullswing website)

iPhone® (10 and higher), running iOS 14 and higher

iPad® (7th generation and higher), running iOS 14 and higher

iPad® Air (3rd generation and higher), running iOS 14 and higher

iPad® Pro (all models), running iOS 14 and higher

Apple Watch® 3 or higher, running watchOS 7 or higher

Apple AirPods® or most any Bluetooth® headphones

For me, I am still using an iPad Air 2 which is Generation 2 from 2014. So far, I have not had any connection issues but the app did crash once.

I had one session where the video did not record but in the past, the videos were recorded.

I would recommend you keep or upgrade to the minimal Generation for the best user experience.

Free or Premium Subscription?

Here are the difference between the 2 subscription models. Right now it costs $99 for the Premium subscription.

While Full Swing has given the WRX testers a Premium license for free to perform testing, personally I would not hesitate to pay for the $99 especially with the historic data.

Compared to other launch monitor companies subscriptions where they will nickle and dime you, Full Swing is a single yearly payment with no hidden surprises.

1881635861_2023-05-3117_55_13.jpg.5152121f6dc4cf03653913ebed89c232.jpg

Starting and using the Full Swing app is very easy

285221659_2023-05-3116_48_26.jpg.603fe9665ebd3a53d919caed991e7e32.jpg

Make sure KIT is 10 feet away from the ball. NOTE this is for outdoor mode. If you are using KIT indoor, you need a minimum of 8 feet infront of the ball for the KIT radar to be effective

843182068_2023-05-3116_50_02.jpg.23d2856373600becc280ba37c2698516.jpg

You can use the app to line up KIT to the target. NOTE you can place the ball anywhere between the dotted lines

2115801804_2023-05-3116_52_13.jpg.784b677c27f91b2e1f11e04a7eb81521.jpg

Setting up "My Bag" in the App

The App comes with a "default" clubs in My Bag. Just your typical Driver, a bunch of hybrids, long irons to a number of wedges

My first impression was "Hey this is NOT my bag" and like any app, I had to figure out how to add and remove clubs I needed or did not need. A few press here, swipe here, scroll here and I was able to set up my bag. I had a Strong 3 wood and a regular 3 wood so I opted for a 2 Wood and a 3 Wood to reflect these clubs in My Bag.

If you have time, you add more details to each club like the Brand and model and also what shaft.

I think what's missing is the key detail like LOFT.

Use the finger to scroll to the Club you want to add:

1458085845_2023-06-0117_01_03.jpg.996cdd5b4fdeed824ed555c9c2deefa4.jpg

And My Bag is now set

FULL SWING KIT compared to Foresight GC3

Authors note - the Foresight GC3 LM is borrowed from my buddy. As such, I do not have the Foresight app which has more better UI than the unit's LCD display. This is OK as the purpose was to compare how both units would measure shots.

The Foresight GC3, from a price point point of view, is the most comparable Personal Launch Monitor at around $6,000 to $8,000.

GC3 is a camera based launch monitor. As the "3" implies, there are 3 cameras that work together to capture the ball flight as well the as the club movement. The upper end GC Quad aka GC4 uses 4 cameras but price for that is around $14,000+

NOTE in order to capture the club data, reflective dots has to be placed on the club

1320917465_2023-05-3117_56_56.jpg.15f1321da6860657dc6285f01ff29536.jpg

The GC3 unit is placed in front of the golfer. The ball is then placed inside it's camera grid and the golfer just swings away.

Physical Comparison KIT vs GC3

The shape of the GC3 appears odd but its very easy to handle and adjust. You can hook fingers under the upper, black rear area to grab it and easy to move around.

However, when it comes to putting these units inside the golf bag - KIT, even with it's protective case, is an easy fit in the bag pockets. GC3 is too fat and cumbersome.

Launch Monitor Alignment

KIT uses an internal camera to align to a far target. You can use the App or use KIT's display screen. Here is the App alignment

2115801804_2023-05-3116_52_13.jpg.784b677c27f91b2e1f11e04a7eb81521.jpg

GC3 provides a folding alignment stick. User unfolds that, point it to the target and then use GC3 LCD panel to calibrate the direction.

WOW! Just WOW!

This exactly reflects what WRXers saw in the Full Swing Competition Bay at The Grand on Tuesday May 23. We had an upper end GC Quad and a Trackman4 that day.

To me, this INDEPENDENTLY validate what we saw using Foresight's mid end Launch Monitor.

As a note, I saw shots registered on KIT but I did not see same shot register on the GC3. It was cold, evening and cloudy when I did my testing. I know as I had seen a 251 carry drive shot register on KIT but did not see it at all on the GC3 LCD. Disappointing & puzzling.

The other note, the FS App session I had running did not record any videos at all for any shots in the session. Typically, this is automatic as I had other past sessions and they all had videos. And I did check the settings, video is turned on.

WORK IN-PROGRESS, to be continued...

Home run of a review, well done!  I'm convinced.

Alright I’ve got a net setup in my yard now, and have the e6 for gameplay with my iPad as a monitor; I should be able to get some more consistent work in with the Full Swing over the next few weeks - will provide additional thoughts as I go, but is there anything the forum would like to know more about?

RIP INTO IT like your 3wood!!!!

I have no net so I love to hear how you'll do. If you can quantify RCT versus Premium ball, that would be cool as well.

Still have to test the under 100. That range I used is not quite suitable, I need to head to a better range with physcial signs like Golf Development Center in Moorpark.

Still in-progress review.

By the way, not owning the GC3, the GC3 has to be set up infront and slightly down the line. This petrifies me every shot to not miss hit it. I very much prefer the Full Swing setup behind me as a more "no worries" friendly approach.

I saw the new Skytrak+ you can buy a metal protection case for it for $100, just proves my point with front on camera based units. I don't think theres anything like that for GC3 or GC4...afaik

Thanks for the clarifications.

I bet you couldn’t hit a GC3 with 50 bad swings.

You wouldn’t even notice it after a bit and that placement is why others prefer it on the golf course for work.

UPDATE my Post #3 review this evening

Add in my testing of the Short Game readings (80 yards and in)

In summary, the carry was good. Main difference is the spin numbers between GC3 and KIT in the 40 yards and in but Carry came out close or dead on.

As noted from the WRX Experience at The Grand, KIT has a limit on the minimum distance it will read and this seems to be under 29 yards. I got one reading but anything less than that - GC3 would read but KIT would not.

See my NOTES in Post 3 about future update to allow this. Also, this limitation is outdoors only. Indoors work fine for LM and E6 Gaming.

@hartrick11 can validate this with his SIM testing

Also, @FullSwingSimulators this evening's session recorded all my shots but again, I did not see any videos for the shots.

The app is functioning fine. No crashes and I also tested the App's verbal readouts and it was pretty cool 👍

I will ping Ryan/John to see what's going on with the no video or if you can help, that would be appreciated.

The App and iOS had updates recently, not sure if this comes into play any with your issues.

Hmmh I don't recall any updates since Tuesday 5/23 on my iPad. I'll wait till Monday to reach out.

Since you've had yours way longer, hows the spin numbers on your wedges 40 yards and in? When I compare GC3 to KIT, the numbers were GR8 until the 40 yards and in for the sand wedges. Here the carry is pretty much par between the two LMs but the spin numbers is way different, as if the GC3 is like low 2000s to mid 2000s while KIT is reporting > 4000.

How's your numbers? If you don't mind checking it out...

I recently bought both a Bushnell launch pro and a Full Swing Kit. Both have been great units. The full swing is the keeper though. The ease of app usage and the ability for e6 to connect to my iPad Pro won me over.

they both have their own pros and cons, but I’m more focused on outdoor sessions at my club and driving range. The iPad/iPhone app while out on range/course with the BLP was a major pain. Couldn’t keep it connected at all. Other than that there’s nothing bad to say about the BLP. Easy and quick to set up and get numbers on the display.

numbers seem consistent between both units. Full swing still on firmware 1.19 for me and BLP had the newest firmware as well.

Excited to get some more sessions in this week on the course with my normal prov1x balls instead of the range.

Sorry to hear your connection issues with BLP. I don't use the Foresight app, just the unit only. I know @double or triple? had iPad disconnecting from KIT so it's not limited to BLP. I use a 2014 iPad Air 2 which is Generation 2, it's not even on FSK comparability list and it seems fine, for most part. You would think these days, connection issues would be easy but sometimes, its a miss.

I think as you test the 2 LMs, you'll see that KIT cuts into some data points that Foresight has kept for their higher end GC4 like Peak height.

IMO, this is a critical data point especially if you are testing drivers/shafts. Before the Full Experience I was messing with my buddy's GC Quad and we saw my drives were about 66 to 76 ft in height. Pretty low and I use to think I was a high ball hitter. He loaned me his GC3 but I learnt that this did not have a Peak data point 🤦‍♂️

This week, I am going to reevaluate my driver again with my gamer ball and guess which LM I will be using...

ps don't forget the dots on club face for BLP. I forgot and could not figure out why there was no Club data showing while FSK was showing everyting. LOL, but true.

I had a chance to get a couple of sessions at home with my net over the weekend, and I would echo what @SwingBlues said regarding carry being dead on with the KIT; some additional interim thoughts below:

  • I didn't do extensive testing of the RCT vs a gamer ball...only used the RCTs for these sessions. I will follow up with comparison testing later this week
  • path/face to path took some tweaking to make sure I was lined up appropriately (It is a kind of tight space so I hit from the right side of the "bay" aiming back to center), but then worked well after that.
  • Launch was accurate once I made sure the KIT unit was on the level ground; when I initially set it up on top of its case to try and make the DTL videos look a bit better, launch numbers were coming in low.
  • I got the e6 working but only did some practice at a virtual range, no actual game play. It was cool to see the visual on the iPad, but I think my ideal use case is just using the Full Swing app where I can see all the stats immediately and watch a swing video instantly if something feels either really good or really bad
  • I had one outlier ball where numbers didn't make sense; spin with a 7i registered over 12k (normally 6700), despite a launch of 10.6 (normally 17)...This shot did not feel like an outlier compared to my norms so it was odd to see, but nothing like that happened with any of the other ~80 logged shots so I just deleted it.

It's nice to know I can get super useful practice sessions in at my house, and can do in in ~20 min stints; with two little kids at home I can't just go out for frequent or lengthy range sessions, so this is super valuable and I think will help me keep my game from degrading and allow me to spend my limited free time enjoying the occasional round with friends. In particular with the KIT, as opposed to the cheaper monitors or the other "mid tiers" like GC3, seeing path and face-to-path data is the key item that makes my practice sessions useful...when I am grooving it my path is almost always between 0-2* out to in, with face control being the main thing I need to work on. When my game goes sideways I start coming more in to out, and combined with face consistency being an ongoing issue, that brings the bad left miss into play. Previously I have struggled getting real use out of net practice, because the feels don't always match reality. This data and video evidence really helps keep me honest, so it was great to see that I was eventually able to get that piece dialed in with KIT.

Played a round today and had full swing in free mode. Seeing very low launch angles and relatively high spin with driver. Club/ball speed seems correct but the launch angle is 3-5* low and spin is probably 500-1000 too high. (Launch angle showing 7-9.5* and spin reading 2700-3400 - neither are accurate). Carry yardage showing 20-30 yards short of actual ball flight)

just got back home to charge the kit and firmware 1.20 is installing currently. Hoping this cures some of these readings.

For the most accurate spin numbers, definitely make sure that you are selecting a club (even if you are not using the app, you can select the club using the side buttons) to get the best readings. By selecting the correct club and making sure that you are aligned properly, you will see the highest degree of accuracy.
