Can't duplicate practice swing lag

Completely wrong, wrong, wrong and worse than useless. You ask for help on one specific thing and the peanut gallery comes in to give you advice they are not qualified to give, maybe even malicious advice? Wow just wow how wrong these people were.

Thank you to the ONE person who actually read what I posted and gave helpful advice. This went about 80% of the way to fixing the problem, I shot 71 yesterday with that "beginner", "mess mechanically", "nonfunctional position" swing.

Thanks again to all the haters. If you want to play better golf, figure out what is wrong with your swing and TUNE EVERYTHING ELSE OUT, especially the dunces on this forum.

An extremely impressive display of Dunning Kruger.  I applaud you sir for your excellent parody.

All "tips" are welcome. Instruction not desired.

@MonteScheinblum isn't qualified to give advice?   That's a new one.

You didn't want advice,  you just wanted somebody to validate you.

Yikes bro. If you didn't want advice, don't post anything. Everyone is giving good advice here (especially Monte.) Having a narrow stance and narrow swing will make it difficult to time up contact on the course. If you want to improve, then do what monte says: widen. If you want to shoot 71 once and "hope" you do it again, stick to the narrow stuff.

I'll give you advice on scoring well more often with your current swing: practice, A LOT. You've shown you can score well with the swing. I'm guessing you have a great short game. Its hard to give advice if you don't talk about your ball flights or greens reg, etc. I'm guessing your higher scores are from missed greens. Work on your timing, A LOT. That's what the current swing requires.

I'm all for unique swings. Not everyone can swing like Rory. But, there are some fundamental things you can do to improve your swing and improve contact. That is what everyone in the thread is telling you and you should at least humor them.

Yea, Milo is great. I'm always pleasantly surprised how many hockey players play good golf versus baseball players. Not shocked, but just pleasantly surprised because the sports are very interchangeable swing wise.

All this thread needs is someone to let the OP know that understanding D-plane will help him to shoot 71 every week without changing his swing…

Don't get discouraged you have a good motion but you aren't swinging the club on plane because your shoulders and hips are too level at the top. You end up swinging over, down and around in the downswing instead of under out and up.

Take a practice swing and as you start down let go with your right hand. Where does the path of the club want to go?

Try a couple of things and see if your perception of how the club should swing changes.

Definitely need a little wider stance and start your swing with a shift to your right foot, just like taking a step but do it sideways and let your right knee extend, not lock the same way it does when you walk. Let momentum do most of the work to get you to the top.

At the top you want your weight to be supported by and balanced on your right leg and hip. Right hip higher than left hip and right shoulder higher than left shoulder then go allowing the club trace the same path it did with the practice swing when you let go with your right hand as you started down.

Thanks for the comments, maybe my topic wasn't the right choice of words. I'm not necessarily holding the lag or using that as a swing thought, it just so happens that my hands are nicely ahead of the ball at impact in my practice swing and not in my real swing.

Here is a video of what I'm taking about - https://youtube.com/shorts/QT4CGw5TN7I

Look at the hands at impact position on practice swings - ahead of the ball, should be good compression!

Real swing - I throw my arms / hands early and hands are over the ball more or less at impact.

Looking at the strike location on the practice swing, I am striking roughly where the ball should be, face is slightly open at impact (but nothing ridiculous like 30 degrees open).

Basically I want to execute that practice swing with a ball in front of me. I guess there are no tricks, I just need to train myself to do it with various ways. I started trying to hit a tee in front of the ball (not the ball itself), that works somewhat. Next I will try closing my eyes and having a bystander usually (but not always) move the ball away during my backswing. It sounds dumb but I'm willing to try anything at this point.

I managed to stop the video at impact on your trial swing. The club head is blurred, but it looks OK.

I think you're suffering from a hit impulse here.  Trail hip (and shoulders) is leading your hands way into the down swing on your trial swing. With a ball on the ground, you catch up with the hands way too early.

One key that may be worth trying is turn everything together from hip to hip ... i.e. don't let the hands catch up with the pivot before p8-p9.

As others have pointed out, there may be a real flaw that is preventing you from maintaining pivot lag through the ball, but then again, maybe not. In any case you would learn something if you managed to hit the ball with the trial swing and examine the result.
