Have you ever purchased a putter without ever trying it first?

On the other side of the coin, there are those who vow to never buy a putter, even though they’ve never tried it.

 

“I’d never eat at that restaurant. The food’s terrible.”

”When was the last time you were there?”

“ I’ve never been there.”

Less than an hour ago. It might never make it into the car. I've never had a magical putter. I've had a few that occasionally behaved.

Yeah, sometimes, it works, and, sometimes it doesn't. Though, I seem to migrate back to Anser styled putters - Ping Redwood Anser.

277 times.  At least.  Here’s the thing. If you try it first.  You will know it doesn’t work.  So you won’t buy.  If we tried putters first , the putter companies would All go belly up.  Sales would die immediately 😂

I would say about half of the putters I own were purchased without trying them first.  The one I have in the bag now was purchased without trying it.  It's a Tad Moore 1st Production 1997 Giraffe Pro 1.  It's a great vintage putter and has been in my bag off and on for several years.

I took the plunge again and ordered the Makefield VS center-shafted putter last week. Although they refer you to places to be fitted first, the fitter closest to me (45 miles) was away for the summer. The putter had positive reviews and I like their technology and design. Does that transform to a putter that will perform well for me? Don't know. Stay tuned!

10 years ago I was at a golf store when a crew was building the foundation for the synthetic turf putting green, including  funnel (s) which led to the hole (s). True story.

Lately with DTC and being Left handed in general all of them the last 20 years. Before that I’d see one at the golf discount shop that closed 20 odd years ago. The local Scheel’s store is getting better at carrying left handed putters but Dick’s is getting worse. 
 My current putter that I’m keeping in my bag is a Zebra AIT 1 .

The entrance to our Golf Galaxy leads to the putting Bay and putter racks. I headed straight to the used rack and used to buy traded in Scotty Cameron Newports before they  started charging almost retail for dinged  up Scotties. Didn't even air putt em.

just grabbed a Cleveland HB soft milled 10.5 S after never trying one. 

 

I had a Toulon Atlanta that I sold. I was looking for another and came across the 10.5. Same head shape as the Atlanta and hundreds cheaper. I went for the Cleveland and couldn't be happier. Least number of putts this year on first outing. After all the searching The head shape feels right to my eye and I used lead tape to get it to the weight I like.

Tried all current/recent production putters but have a number of custom/vintage putters which I took fliers on untested
