Refund etiquette question

Recommended Posts

Hi there, im not throwing anyone under the bus here, no good guys or bad guys, just wanted to know fellow Wrxr "opinion" on issuing a return...... I bought some grips off BST online and then tried them and didnt like them, they were the MCC team grips and they felt weird, I did some research and they smelled fine had all the proper stampings and even the correct pattern for alignment lines........Well I didnt like them so I sold 11 grips, 5 new and 6 used for $59.  Now here is the tricky part, a buyer bought them from me 8 months ago and is now issuing a refund.

Would issuing a refund be the correct thing to do ????  Is there a time limit on returns ????  If there is, how long is the proper time ???

I'm lost. You bought them, didn't like them. You sold them 8 months ago and now your "buyer is issuing a refund"?

no not exactly,  I bought them and did not like them and I sold them !  I sold them 8 months ago and today the buyer is asking for a refund

Ha , umm ... that's a big ole NO after 8 months from my perspective. What's the reason for the request , they're now wore out?

I think the threshold for PayPal is 45 days. You're not on the hook for that one.

They're trying to rip you off, no reason to give a refund especially after 8months. I get maybe getting them 8 days later saying "hey something is up with these" and working something out.

no the buyer has not used them, he suspects they are fake......I apologize for omitting that part....it is probably the single most important piece of information

Ahh , gotcha. I still say no, not after 8 months. The buyer has the ability to inspect what they purchased and make an assessment way before 8 months.

It took him 8 months to decide they’re fake? Even if they are I think it’s a negative. He would have an argument had it been a week or two.

Glad to hear your opinions here, the buyer is a long time member on this forum and insists on a refund.....no need to lose sleep over a set of grips......was just checking to see what the golf community in general thought the correct thing to do was.

My only gripe is that he waited so long to ask for a refund that I had no chance to try to get one on my end......even a few weeks is ok, but 2022 ???  thats so last year LOL

Was it mentioned that these grips could be counterfeits in the original post?

I am the one who purchased these grips from him two weeks ago and just returned them today after Golfpride confirmed they are indeed fake grips. These grips indeed felt different as they were not soft and undersized.

nothing wrong with asking for a refund but 8 months does put me in a bit of a bind with my options to return....

The person who sat on them for 8 months is at fault here and needs to eat the loss, no matter how many times they’ve been sold and moved around, or whether or not anyone suspected or advertised them as possible fakes. 30 days? Absolutely. 90 days? Maybe, if the person has a solid reputation and I’m feeling generous. But 240 days? You’re on you’re own bud, I’m not Costco with an infinite return policy. Hell, even PGATSS would politely tell you to get bent after 90.

I get the impression that these have moved around a couple times. Meaning whoever OP sold them to, then 7-ish months later sold them to someone else. Now that person has confirmed they’re fakes and wants a refund, and the refund is trying to be passed along back to OP 8 months later.

8 months is silly to the max.

Funny thing is I would be the outlier that just might refund the guy. I would be mortified if I inadvertently sold counterfeit grips and $60 would not be enough for me to dig too deep into it all.

It would really depend how the buyer handled it, if he was cool about it, I would be too. If he was a jerk I would likely tell him to shove off as 8 months is ridiculous.

Oh, if that's the case then this whole thing is ridiculous.  Refunds aren't a game of telephone.

Yes Correct MaleLee21 returned them but he did not buy them from me, he returned them to a buyer that got them from me 8 months ago.
