Dog Food: Fresh vs Kibble

Hello Fam, seeking feedback on dog foods:  fresh vs dry.  
 

pros/cons, brands, considerations…. Seeking any and all useful feedback.  
 

Wife and I have a puppy coming our way soon!

Farmers dog. 1000 % recommend.  They’ll tailor a mix/diet to your dog.  
 

 

I have a 120lb Great Pyrenees… she ate merrick dry kibble as a pup , and it’s great quality , with real chicken chunks. But she had some “ hot spot “ skin allergies … we switched her over about 2 years ago , and that went away immediately.  
 

the food is frozen in packets. But it’s real veggies , meat etc. 

 

their customer service is top notch.  And they run a auto ship schedule like clockwork.

I second the Farmers Dog recommendation. We have a very picky Cockapoo, when we first got him he was on kibble, after 3 weeks he was done with it, so we switch to something else. This happened 2 more times, so we switched. Everything is catered to my dog, there are 3-4 different flavors to pick from, so you switch flavors every other day.  We no longer have wonder of her OSS going to get tired of his food. 
One thing I have to say is that FG has an amazing Customer Service team.

I'll be the devils advocate, but I feed 3 dogs the same stuff from local feed and seed store. Dogs are healthy, clean teeth, solid turds.  One great Dane, two little turd a** dogs.

Wife and I grew up on farms with dogs.  During our 56 years of marriage, we've seldom been without a dog...or dogs... in the home.  The last couple of dogs were our "last".  But, the house seems empty without so we have continued to rescue a dog from a kill shelter.  We've had this one about 5 years.  We thing she's part Jack Russel Terrorist mixed with Criminally Conspiratorial Chihuahua!!  (She's one of the best we've ever had!!)  

 

The last two or three dogs we've had on Purina ProPlan.  The dogs love it and have stayed very healthy.  I still believe the hard chunks keep their teeth relatively clean.  There are various diets.  

 

Just my 2 cents....

Purine One has always been a great choice for our household thru several dogs.

I'd start with a great quality kibble and see how it goes. You can always add to it, if you want some fresh stuff in there each meal, which is what we've always done. 

 

Annamaet is our go to. Great stuff.

Man, I've really wanted to try that for my girls. But what they quote me for two adult Rottweilers works out to like damn near $1k/mo. 

 

These brats are spoiled enough already; now they gotta eat like @bscinstnct?!

 

Queen Sophie already thinks she owns the place ...

 

 

As a Rottie papa over the last 20ish years, they've always eaten Royal Canin.

Yeah, and I imagine a couple of Rottweilers are NOT what you want walking around hungry cause you cut calories on them 🤣🍻

I've been very pleased with Farmina kibble. Currently using Lamb and Pumpkin Puppy.
