Game potentially collectable putter?

Earlier this year I purchased a 50th anniversary Ping Anser for $400 new in box.  These things retailed for $900 back in 2016 when they came out.  I love the head shape, 350 gram head weight (has factory tungsten plugs) and the fact that it doesn't have a sight line.  I think they made around 1,500 of the putters but they really don't command a lot on the secondary market.  Should I just put it in play and not care about any potential collectability?

That's up to you. Its  $400 risk for you, nothing crazy in the putter game. Go for it!

Play it.  It’s a nice putter.

As pointed out, the highly desired  collectibles are true Scottsdales ( and holy grail Redwood City’s plus some one offs).
Also the PLD 1988 and other PLD releases releases prob. have dampened the 50th Anniverssry values.

Reminds me of the time when my dad and I returned home after a long fishing trip and my mom had decided to have our sofa covered with clear plastic while we were gone.  (that was a thing back in the 70's)

We walked in tired and hungry and there was a freshly covered sofa staring at us.  Dad asked mom why, and then he asked how much it cost.

Mom said she got it covered so we wouldn't wear it out so fast and it wouldn't get stained.  Then she said it cost $50.00

Dad calmly asked mom why she was saving the sofa for some strangers to wear out and stain.  He said sofas were meant to wear out and he wanted to be the one to wear it out since he paid for it.  He did not buy that sofa for the next people that might own it, nor did he care that they got a really nice sofa after he spent years sitting on stupid, uncomfortable plastic covers.

Mom had the cover removed the next day.

Why save a putter for some person you don't even know?  Game the thing.  Game it hard.  If it doesn't make enough putts, then you can sell it to some stranger knowing you used the heck out of it and the next person will get a nicely worn and stained sofa....er sorry..... putter.

I had this when I picked up my t22. I gamed it in the end and don’t regret it for a moment.

Unless you plan to sell it on down the line, which you’ve already got a $500 discount so it’s unlikely to rocket in value, then I’d game it.

What it comes down to is, you have to decide, "Am I a Collector or am I a Player?". While there's nothing wrong with either, I have never bought a putter that I didn't intend on using in some way. (Of course, it didn't quite work out that way for some...) If you need to make money, a nice mutual fund is the better way to go.

You can be both. Especially with camerons, you can keep them clean and value doesn't drop too much.
