Help...easiest club to get out of bunker and what loft and lie angle?

Depends on the condition of the bunkers.   For soft sand - yes.   For hard packed bunkers (not as well maintained or very thin layer of sand)  - bounce is the enemy.

That's why it's important to ask the OP about the conditions of the bunkers he's normally plays before you can make any decent recommendation.

Swoon...

I have really come to *hate* the statement that "bounce is your friend". It's not automatic at all.

It depends on a number of factors.  Soft, deep sand?  Hardpack dirt?  Are you capable of hitting a flop shot?  Different bunker shots require different lofts and bounce.  A 10 yard greenside shot is going to have different club requirements than a 25 yard greenside shot, even with the same sand conditions.

Of course nothing is automatic, but generally speaking, bounce is indeed your friend. I'd rather have too much bounce than not enough. We can always take bounce off, if we have it.

New England sand is heavy and too much bounce glides off and leads to skulls. I have found the Callaway wedges beginning with the MD5’s in an S grind to work well with a slightly lighter shaft than most OEMs.

Most golfers don’t need more than a 56 (Rocco Mediate agrees) and this allows you to open the club a bit depending on firmness of the sand,

Best of luck.

I'm no expert, but I tried this "bounce is your friend" theory, by using high bounce sand wedges, and opening the clubface.

To me, that was doing the exact opposite of what I needed to do. It would skull or skip of the sand into the back of the ball.

It was only when I stopped exposing the bounce and furthermore buying a low bounce wedge, that I began to drive under the ball, and send it out nicely.

I prefer 58° or 60° for greenside shots within 30 meters.
Callaway PM 19 if you can stand the look. It’s extremely easy out of the sand.
However, I went back to a Miz T20 60/10 and have had great success with it. Practice makes a difference.

Sand conditions vary but there’s either very firm, packed sand and very little of that in the bunkers, or fluffy and plenty- the latter at the more high end courses.
Firm/packed: close face a little and play more of a chip shot.
Fluffy: hit a shallow, open faced „fat“ shot.

The secret for me seems to be loose hands instead of „hitting it“. A controlled fat shot with steady follow through is very effective, instead of hacking at the sand. The club‘s sole glides easily through the sand, no need to hammer it.

Something like this: image.png.8da2487d771b01d656a4738ac793b620.png

High bounce scoop sole with heel relief / hosel structure for easy entry into and exit out of the sand.

Lie angle will be player dependent but you can also try gripping down as that flattens the effective lie angle.

This.

high bounce 56-60 depending on your comfort.

Cally CB is good, don’t even open mine up too much. Play the ball forward, and slightly open. Easy

Sevi proved that the type of wedge/club is really immaterial, while technique and sand conditions are paramount.

If you're struggling to "get out of a bunker, please try this while in the practice bunker:

1. Stick a tee in the sand where the top of the tee is even with the sand.

2 Stick a ball on the tee.

3. Using your regular technique (as if you were hitting a 40-50 yard shot) hit the ball while focusing on cutting the cap off the tee with the leading edge of your club.

It's really that simple to learn to get out, every time. You can then experiment with different clubs for different distances. And remember, getting out of the bunker is the primary thing here.

The answer to better golf is work your butt off and learn how to hit it better, farther, and make more putts.

There’s a lot of variables here. What kind of sand do you play out of? How steep do you swing and are you a digger, skimmer or somewhere in between? Etc.

I use a 56/14 f grind as that’s what works for me and have used as high as 16 bounce previously, but my father needs a 56/10 or 12 on the same home course. I swing steeply, he swings flatter.

If you have a home course you’d be best getting advice from your local pro or coach with a lesson and fitting to establish what works for you. Otherwise you could be buying a lot of different wedges and getting frustrated.
