2024 APEX CBs reviews

Finally got time to grip mine up and checked the SW on my cheap scale and most were spot on, a couple were a point off so perfectly fine for my ability. Lengths were spot on, no way to check the L/L so hoping they got them right also.

They are getting the new knocked off them tomorrow, hoping for some good results.

What shafts did you put in them?  I went from s300s in my standard Apex 21s to DG120s in these.  Ball flight is much higher.  I haven’t checked spin yet but I think it’ll be pretty high.  Really like the Pro 4&5 irons.

I am really enjoying the CB 8-11, wish I had went all the way with them.

The Pros seem to feel and act different (as expected I guess), just can't seem to figure them out. Sure the swing is always iffy, but the CB's deliver every time where it seems to me the Pro's need a near perfect strike to get the most of of them.

I expected the Pro's to be a bit more forgiving, but for me it seems the opposite. I should know better than to combo, tried it several times and always regret it.

Does anyone have any direct comparisons (feel, spin, launch, size, forgiveness) between the Callaway CB and the Cobra CB? Strongly considering these two or potentially a blend with the Pro/King Tours (weakened) at the 4 or 5 iron most likely. Coming from the OG zx7s 4-AW for reference.

Both will look much more compact then the zx7

cobra Cb might be the best looking iron on the market right now (combo Cb/mb and it is not even close)

apex cb is right there with the cobra, might be a touch taller on the face height

How different are these CBs to the X forged CBs from previous generation?

In looks only, head is a good deal smaller, thinner top line shorter blade length and thinner sole.  It's more compact.   Feel is slightly softer.  Can't remember the loft package on X forged, but CB's are fairly traditional.

I just fit into a CB/Pro combo set. CB pw-6 iron, Pro 4-5.  Played my first round with them yesterday.  For context, the last few years I've rotated between T100 and PXG 0311 ST mbs.  I was never in love with the T100s and the PXG mbs work best when my swing is in good form.  I was hoping that the Apex line would suit my eye all around and I could then downsize to 1 gamer set.

My immediate reaction when fitting the CB and MB was how little difference there was in terms of how they looked at address. Maybe a slightly smaller top line on the MBs but the Apex MB line already seemed a little heftier than other OEMs I have tried.  Both looked fantastic at address.  The numbers were pretty similar from MB to CB but given how little difference there was visually I figured I would just go with the more forgiving CBs from pw-6.

I didn't hit the Apex Pro worth a damn in my fitting. I just can't get along with a chunky iron but I wanted that forgiveness in the long irons so I just went with it.

First on-course impressions:  It took me a few holes to warm up and trust the CBs but they came around pretty quickly and by the end of the round it was point and shoot.  Love them.  The Pros are harder to explain.  Off the tee I hit a few decent 200+ iron shots into par 3s and they held the green pretty well, but off the turf I was hitting low stinger type shots.  I think I mentally approach the chunkier club with more of a hybrid type sweeping swing.  It doesn't work.  I had a 200 yard shot into the final green from a good lie in the 2nd cut.  I forced myself to put an iron swing on a 5 iron and it launched beautifully leaving me with a 20 foot birdie putt (I missed it).  It's going to take some time to get accustomed to the Pros but they have potential in the long iron.

Gapping wise the APEX line all fits together perfectly.  They can be easily combo'd with minimal need to adjust lofts.   A lot to like in the Apex line.

Oh, I had never seen the ACCRA iron shaft i-steel line before but I got along really well with the 110s and they felt great in my round yesterday.  Worth a look.

Did you adjust lofts or go straight from factory settings?

Straight factory settings.  I decided with the fitter it was probably better to wait on any loft adjustments until I had them in hand and had an opportunity to play them on-course.  I also wanted to take a look at the numbers off real turf rather than indoor simulator.  I'll be taking them out to the range with the R10 to check the gapping numbers this weekend.

I am toying with the idea of picking up a CB 7 head and putting my shaft in it. But I only havee a few rounds with the set so more time is needed before more money is spent.

The CB's just seem to feel so much better, could be mental and at this point most likely is.

Anybody experienced long delays on their CB order? Have a friend that ordered a set of CB's on 9/17/23 and they still haven't shipped. The projected ship date shows 1/15!. Customer service claimed that the 7 and 8 iron or maybe 8 and 9 iron heads were backordered. He ordered them with some loft/lie adjustments, but I thought these kind of delays were not happening any more.

I did my fitting at my local shop on November 11th and they were ready for me with my shafts and length adjustments by the 25th.  Haven't heard of delays with the CBs.  The months of delays with the 2021 T100 irons caused me to cancel my custom order and buy them stock and swap out shafts later.  You can't tease an addict with a new purchase and not produce the product!

I think it’s the 7 iron heads. If you go customize a set on their site, most beads show 5-7 day lead time and the 7 shows 6-8 weeks. I’m sure they’re waiting on a shipment of those.

Edit: most 1-2 weeks except the 7.

Apex CB short iron heads and Apex MB wedge heads are both back-ordered.

I suspect it's a product of lots of Pro/CB and "Triple Play" combo sets being sold.

Shafts and grips aren't the hold-up, it's the heads. Logistical snags aren't nearly as bad as they were a couple years ago, but they still persist.

The Apex CBs are very different in looks and performance. I was fit into the X Forged when they came out and liked them. The Apex CBs spin more, at least they do for me, and are less forgiving. They are also very accurate. Mishits with the X Forged were like "Hmmm, I think I missed that a little.' whereas mishits with the Apex CBs are like 'Yep, definitely missed that one...GO!"

Having played both, I much prefer the CBs.

Well I just have to admit it, I hate the feel of the APEX pros. I have them in the 7-4 and with the exception of the 4 iron I just don't like them.

The CB's 8-11 are fantastic, I will never combo a set again. It just never works for me, no idea why it should work just fine.

Phenomenal irons.  I'm not a sweeper, but I take shallow divots and these CB's were nothing but excellent on the maiden voyage.  No distance loss vs ZX7's (pictured) but gained height and spin.   These are point and shoot golf clubs with some built in forgiveness.  If you miss, yes you will lose a few years, but I wouldn't say they are penal like a blade or even a P7MC.  They feel slightly softer or more dense than my ZX7.  Buttery good with strike feedback.  IMO best Callaway irons since CF16 or X forged 13.   Love the addition of the 10 iron and the rounded toe, thin top line and minimal offset.  Only problem is the back ordered 7 iron haha.  Not sure a digger would love the pre-worn leading edge.  Reminds me of Miura MC-501's in that regard.

I like these irons more than my ZX7's and that's saying a lot.  You can't argue with dispersion and to me, it's a prettier blade looking down at the ball.

I have the same set up and if I were to do it over I’d probably get the CB 6&7.  I haven’t hit a 4 iron in forever and didn’t really like the 5 until I got these pros.  They fit nice for me and I find myself wanting to lay up on some par 5s just so I can hit my 4 or 5 iron, to be fair I hate my 3 wood also but I’m about to order a smoke HL 3 wood.  So that may all change.
