2024 APEX CBs reviews

Compared t100 irons head to head with the CBs. I was getting more ball speed with the CB compared to my t100 with the same shaft setup. Spin and Peak height were marginally higher and descent angle was marginally steeper with the CB but resulted in a negligible difference in carry distance between the two. 
 

The CBs felt better and look better to me compared to the t100 irons but could not justify the change due to the negligible difference and high price of the irons.  It’s a shame but I would rather take a golf trip than pay for new irons. 
 

Like someone else in this thread mentioned, my favorite irons that I still go back to for a few rounds a year, are the 2019 Apex Pro Dots and the CBs were the first iron since those that gave me the same feeling on impact and look at address.

Ya part of me wants to get a second set - no particular reason - but like every good WRXer want to try something else. Since I'm going to a heavier shaft, figure this is a good opportunity. Thanks for the feedback!

Just ordered a set of these, moving out of the Apex MB I've played since 2018.  Got the Pro in the 4 iron and CB down to PW.  Considering getting both models in the 5 iron, too. Went in looking for some more forgiveness on thin strikes, while still looking somewhat bladey from up top.  Came down to these and the Blueprint S.  Really liked both, and would be happy playing either, but the cost, the 50% trade-in bonus from Callaway, and overall familiarity with their irons won out in the end.  Now begins the wait...

This is the exact setup I have (4 pro, 5-PW CB) and it's great. My distances may be a touch shorter than they were with my old T100's, but understanding my tee-length and my ground length being different has helped me make a much higher GIR than I usually do.

Shipping estimate on my build got bumped up 2 weeks today... from May 20-27 to May 7-13. 

 

So I got that going for me.  Which is nice.

Got these in last week and was able to take them out last night.  Hit a bucket and played 9.  These are really nice. Compared to my MB's, they launch and fly higher, are maybe a half-club longer, and perform better on thin strikes. To my eye, ball speed looks a little bit quicker, too.  They're almost indistinguishable from by MB's at address and they move through the turf the same way.  Overall, they're what I've been trying to find the last 2 years. T100's, ZX7, and X-forged CB just didn't feel/perform well enough to justify getting rid of my MB's.  I think these will.

I have the pros in 4-6 and CB in 7-11(GW).  I love the CBs and am thinking about getting the 5 and 6 in CB and swapping in a 4 hybrid.  I’m a 6 handicap and thought I’d maybe need the help but I’m not loving the pros compared to the CBs.  I feel I’m able to make better contact with the CB vs the Pro.  My two cents.

Nice. I heard delays were pretty big on these. It is a popular iron.

Wonder why we aren’t seeing these pop up in more tour bags?  A couple folks have them but it’s mostly v2 tcb and a lot of 2018 mbs.

 

Are they not flighting out in the windows or spinning too much for the tour crowd?  Just odd.

They are a 1 piece forged CB. A lot like the stuff they are currently playing. If it ain’t broke why fix it?

I get it.  I was agreeing with you and basically saying I don’t know why you would change.

 

I’m interested in a set of the cbs, I just haven’t found a place to hit them locally.

Normally I would agree with you - but look at all the players on the Ping (and some non-Ping) side move over to the new Blueprint S, or the Titleist players that moved into the newer T100 last year.

 

The Callaway players that did move, moved from the TCB into the newer TCB (versus the CB).

 

Even the Srixon players moved from the ZX7 MKI into the ZX7 MK II.

Maybe it’s that Callaway has lots of irons that overlap in a segment…?

Blueprint S players are coming from irons that are 11-12 years old (s55)

 

lots of Titleist guys that play the T100 seem to switch every year. The blade and CB guys, not so much 

 

srixon, still lots of OG players 

 

The TCB is a tour iron, probably lots of  custom stuff holes into those for each individual player 

 

but who knows

Quite a few Pros switched to the Apex CBs from the TCBs and then switched back. I actually prefer the shape of the CBs over the TCBs!

Update I was able to demo the cb and mb today, with px 6.5 and x100.

 

for what ever reason I tend to struggle with callaway cbs.  I’ve had tcbs and they flew high and short compared to other irons for me.  The cb was no different.  Looks great down by the ball, no offset, and a longer heel to toe blade length.  I was getting about 168-170 with carry with the 7 iron using range balls. 
 

the MBs worked much better for me.  Flatter flights and was averaging just over 180 and just as forgiving.  Ball speed was around 130 with the mb and struggled to get over 126-7 with the cb.  It was 54 degrees and balmy.
