PXG Gen 7 Irons

Heard PXG is about to release its Gen 7 P and XP irons.... any news?

Haven’t seen nor heard.   Speculation….

Its coming. Continuing the one color look with some new accents. The whole goal is to continue to improve spin and dispersion. Changing the weighting system too. Think Edel. Not going to be world changing but a decent little upgrade. The best part is the 6's with the new finish will be closed out.

I like the idea of the changing weight system. 
Any idea on the launch date? Are any pics floating around (Google returned nothing).

Haven’t seen them. Told by a PXG fitter to expect them in April. Not expecting a big change.

PXG doesn’t release new product unless it’s significantly better than the old.  I can attest to this being I just put Black Ops Driver in my bag and yeah, it’s all that.   If April release is accurate wouldn’t surprise me on G7.   Looking forward to the launch.

Don't know if guys here know this. But PXG stocks a whole lot of shafts that will generally fit "most" golfers. That way they are able to keep their "ship within 10 days guarantee". As they already have what they need on hand for the build.

 

If they didn't do this the build time would be closer to other OEM's at 4-6-8 weeks out.

 

Also they usually always have more shaft options than what's listed on the website. Just call and ask.

Yeah I'm aware, I've been in the building where they build the clubs and have seen the shaft cage.

 

The problem is, they just don't offer a wide variety of shafts. Go look at the new Black Ops Tour driver. Not a lot of options, and the no uncharge options pretty much suck IMO, and then they want you to pay $650! Meanwhile, you can go to Cally and build a pretty nice Smoke 3D with a nice shaft for no uncharge at $599.

 

They COULD offer more options and just gray them out like they do now with the ones listed on their site that they don't have in stock right now. At least give us more options.

It's a little easier for me for the Driver though. I have done multiple fittings at PXG , Demo days at my club and last week at Impact Precision.

 

NO SHAFT has yet to give me better numbers than the Autoflex. The TPT (don't remember which one) came close. So I'll just go there, put the Black Ops Tour head in the A/F and see what the numbers are.

I too was questioning the shaft options at my fitting at PXG, they didn’t carry the shaft I was gaming.  However, the Tour AD my fitter got me into with Black Ops, I swear I’ve never hit drives like this before.  Bombs.  He did all this funky voodoo sh*t with the weights and what not.   I posted here earlier, I cannot believe how low my spin numbers are now from previous Driver’s and shafts I’ve had.   Incredible.

I was considering waiting for the Gen 7 release, but the Gen 6 is so good that I went ahead and got fitted for the XP with Steelfiber 95’s. I’ve never hit an easier 160 yard 7i in my life. 
 

Double black heads with Steelfiber Private Reserve is an absolute fire look.

I have the Gen4 I’m still rockin’ switched from Steelfiber 95s to elevate mph and miss the Steelfiber. Steelfibers are just so darn good.

The MMT’s are really good. This is the first time I’ve been fitted into graphite so the Steelfibers were an easy transition for me. Also, I’m still in my 30’s with a low 80’s swing speed and the Steelfibers were still great for me. Went with the stiff flex and they were just point and shoot. My fitter at PXG said more and more golfers are moving to graphite and even at younger ages. Graphite is just so good these days.

I tried the Steelfibers a couple of times at different PXG fittings. Neither time did I like them. Not saying they aren't good shafts as they get plenty of play. Especially on the LPGA it seems like. But FOR ME they are just very harsh feeling.

My issue with the MMT’s was the kick point. Even in the stiff flex, I was whipping it too much and hitting fat shots. I have an aggressive transition so I need something a little more stout.

Just got fit into XP double chrome. Fit into the Elevate 95 steel, which was odd as I have Hzrdus graphite in my Paradym X. Tighter dispersion and higher launching. Excited to get them. Was a bit concerned with the Gen 7 around the corner, but heard later this year not April. Hope that is right.
