New 2024 Jones Rover Stand Bag!

Recommended Posts

Was at the PGA Show earlier today and stumbled across what I thought was a new version of the Jones Trouper.  Chris from Jones informed me that this is a brand new model called The Rover.  Now there have been Rover CARRY bags in the past, but this is a complete redesign and proper full size lightweight stand bag model.  Not sure why they reused the Rover name but oh well.

I've liked the Trouper but it was never the right fit for my 80+% carry habits.  While not a deal breaker, I've never been a fan of the signature Jones belt loops at the top of many of their bags, including the Trouper.  This new Rover doesn't have them and the bag itself is quite a bit more minimalist - for the better.  It KIND OF gives off "Trouper Lite" vibes, if that was a thing.  And the bag is light weight (not sure exactly of weight).    Plus I'm really digging the multi-tone colorways.

A handful of colors will be released in April and the others will be released in June.  If I make it back to the Show, I'll snag more pics.

It is a large opening.  Not the same tiny 3 way top in their original stand bags.

Went back today. Jones rep said 4.3 or 4.4 lbs.

That looks cool and I need a new bag for the season. Thanks for photos!

Please tell me the bag doesn’t have that dumbazz cooler pocket….not a deal breaker because other things just go in there, but man is that a dumb “feature” on a carry bag.

Haha. No cooler on this bag. It does have a similar flap to that of the Trouper but it has a drawstring ball pocket underneath instead of a cooler.

I carry a lot and I only carry the minimum so I’m not a fan of coolers on carry bags either. Loading up a bag with drinks can weigh it down SIGNIFICANTLY.

This bag might be better looking than the Sun Mountain mid-stripe. Would need to look at the materials and feel too. But it’s in that weird middle spot where it’ll be fine for walking, but there are some ultra light options that are more functional for walking a ton.

I think it looks better than the Mid Stripe too. While not as lightweight as an ultralight (2.5, Craz-E Lite, etc), it’s definitely designed with the walker in mind.

Love it.  Was looking at a Vessel Sunday III to replace my original Trouper since I've decided to walk and carry 80% of my rounds this year.  But I may end up waiting for this bag instead.

Agree completely. Unfortunately I’m thinking about going to two bags - one ultra light stand/carry and one geared towards carts. My goal is to be more 50/50 with walking/riding, so it makes sense if I’ll walk more.

I have a Utility Rover and love it.  I sometimes wish it was a stand bag, especially if it is wet or muddy, but I think I just prefer a bag I can lay on the ground.

Looking for some feedback on Jones bags here.  Look nice.  What sets them apart from a Ping Hoofer Lite or Vessel?   I use pushcart mostly but also do enjoy carrying.   Thanks

I'm a bag nut and to me, the biggest difference is just the overall aesthetics or vibe.

Ping is tried and true and it's hard to go wrong with their bags.  You're not making a statement by having a Ping bag, unless you have the Hawaiian print Hoofer Lite.   I'm currently gaming a Ping Craz-E Lite and that's been serving me well as someone who mostly carries.

Vessel is a high end luxury brand that makes very high quality products. Personally, I like some of the Vessel offerings but I can't help but feel the brand is a little pretentious.   To me it's like gaming a staff bag when you're 20 handicap.  You've earned the right to play Vessel when you become scratch.  I know I'm wrong but that's how the brand comes across to me.

To many, Jones is just "cooler" and more unique than other brands.  Check out their site and you'll easily see what I'm talking about.  And I know Jones isn't for everybody either.

If you're going to be using a push cart, I would steer more towards the Jones Trouper if considering Jones as a brand.  It's a bigger bag and should be more stable on a cart.  I haven't seen the new Rover on a push cart so not sure how it performs but the Rover should have a better carry experience.

Major bag ho here too. Ho ho ho!!!

Ping and Sun Mountain are the standard for functionality IMO. I have a Sun Mountain Sync that is designed for push cart use, and there is nothing better. Same with a Hoofer or Hoofer Lite for carrying. Just wonderful bags. The Sun Mountain bags don’t really look so great IMO, so it’s function first.

The Ping bags — look I get really weird about matching. For me a Ping bag works, since I’ve played Ping clubs all my life. Not top to bottom, but I’m effectively married to my driver and FW clubs - they are going nowhere. But in my weirdness, I could never carry a Ping bag if I happened not to have Ping clubs in there.

Jones bags I like because there is minimal branding on them and you have lots of options on how you want your setup to look between the bag and head covers. The cooler pocket is stupid for a carry bag but it’s not like that pocket can’t have something other than a White Claw in there.

I haven’t owned a Vessel (yet) so have to withhold comment. They do look great in the store — a little heavy unless you go with the DXR rip stop fabric.

Yeah I wish a store by me carried vessel and or Jones so I see first hand what a $500 bag gets me.   I’m off topic here but throw it out anyway.  Stitch.  What about this new stitch bag you can customize.  Any feedback on them cuz they too look nice as well.    Thanks

Not sure where you’re located but your Golf Galaxy may have some Vessel bags in stock. And because Dicks/GG has Vessel, you can order one to check it out and then return it free of charge if you don’t like it.

Jones bags won’t cost you $500. They have some crazy annual sales like 40% Off everything which are awesome.

As for Stitch, I think they make some quality stuff but personally the brand doesn’t really speak to me. It comes off as too country club-y.

Good question and I don’t know. I did see that Vessel is releasing a Players IV AIR which looked promising.

I like the 3 way too, I find it's a nice middle ground and works well with smaller top diameters.  Interested how there flex base works. Hope it's as smooth as the TM.

Worth checking out the 2024 Taylor made premium carry. They stepped up their game and it looks to be very good option in this segment.

I briefly had last year’s version of the TM Premium Carry. It looked great but thought the material was a little too rigid and didn’t know I’d miss a top handle as much as I did.

It’s good to see a top handle on this new version. The non-premium Carry is very interesting but that’s a pretty high price for a very simple minimalist bag.

Jones Bags look good, but they are not functional and are lower quality than PING bags.  I've tried the Trouper and Original and a million other brands.
