Bryson’s new Avoda irons

Recommended Posts

Actually liking the look of these. I am not sure how well I would adjust to single length but certainly interesting in the following the story. Would need to be an equity deal - think with his youtube exposure it could do well.

I mean, ignoring the frothy haterade for a second....don't you think if an "equipment breakthrough" were going to happen for anyone that it would for the guys like Bryson? I mean think about it....the dude has obsessively tinkered WAY outside the realm of stock golf equipment for years now trying to perfect his setup, and his specs are so wild that he of all people could believably be impacted noticeably by the "right" equipment over anyone else. And he doesn't have an incentive to sell the public on his setup anymore now that he's a free agent. There is nothing in his current bag to "pimp" other than the LA shafts I guess.

I didn’t make my point right…. Yes, I sort of agree with what you’re saying. But, my point isn’t about the equipment but his personality and pettiness. Comes across like a spoiled brat which takes away from his experimenting with gear, to me.

moving on.

I love this idea. Going to keep an ear out on how this combo set turns out. Biggest concern is spin and launch on the lower lofted irons. I tried the cobra and the 4 and 5 single lengths I couldn’t get up to a reasonable window.

Driver - Titleist TSi2 8* - Mitsubishi Tensei Raw White 6s

4w Cobra F6 Baffler - Evenflow RED 6.0 75g

DI - Cobra One Utility - Paderson SLS 110 shaft

5-GW PXG Gen4 XP - Elevate 95g Stiff

50* Cleveland Zipcore full face - TI S400

56* Tmag Big Foot - TI S400

Yes, most likely it would be a guy like Bryson. Hey, did Cobra ever figure out that driver head he wanted that maintained the same distance as a sweet spot strike regardless of where on the face ya struck the ball?! That’s the next driver I’m gonna buy! 😊

😂

Yeah. It’s called a Krank driver.

There’s no doubt if you don’t have the club head speed then serviceable loft can be a challenge. As you go to lower lofts, you have to either add length or add more mass (hybrid, wood, driving iron).

I'd be super interested in trying out the combo set.

There is. Simply find a Wishon clubfitter.

Any decent one would be able to spec out the EQ-1NX irons with "dual" lengths as Wishon offers hand picking the weights of heads.

he means  Value  golf i think!

I  respect  them  but have to think the  man behind Wishon knows a thing or two!

I have a set of the combo length that I will test today on the course for the first time (long time SL player and have tried them all) I have the 5-LW with Fuji Axioms. Customer service is very responsive as well.

First impression is the finish of the heads look really nice along with the build quality. Note: I ordered the 5U/6U but they were having trouble with the manufacturer so they sent me the set and are shipping those out later free of charge. The 5iron looks like a butter knife (it’s the address picture on the website on the buying page for reference) no offset and pretty intimidating. really curious why they designed the lower lofted clubs like this as the 6 is not as scary but close (hoping the utility irons will look more friendly). I would definitely categorize these as blades/players irons and not even close to players distance or GI. Remind me of the Edel SLS. I will add some pics when I get home compared to my Cobra Aerojet OL.

One note and my opinion on the Wishon irons mentioned above is the finish on those are horrible. After a few rounds with them they looked like 10 year old clubs with all the scuffs on the finish and I take really good care of my clubs. That was a turnoff for me as well as the feel of them. Again, just my opinion. I also assume ValueGolf is referring to the Pinhawk Vertex dual length set….

Cobra LTDx  (8*) AutoFlex 505

PXG Gen 6 3 Wood (15*)

PXG Gen 6 (18*)

PXG Gen 6 4 hybrid (22*)

Cobra Aerojet OL (5-SW)

Thanks for posting. Interested to hear your feedback and seeing some in-hand pics.

I have a set of the Wishon and completely echo those comments. They look horrible, but I do enjoy the performance and shape so are staying in the bag for now.

Thank you very much for the review and the pictures. I ordered a Single length set 5-LW. I currently play Edel SLS, but when I saw the opportunity to have player’s like forget head in 1020 carbon steel, I decided to change. They look absolutely gorgeous on your picture. How would you compare the feel with your Edel as you also played this set before ?

To me, they are very similar to the Edel SLS irons! If you liked those (I regret ever selling mine) then you will like these. Although, again the 5 iron looks a lot more intimidating than the Edel 5 iron did. If I remember correctly the Edel had a constant offset these in the combo do not and almost seem the opposite (more in the higher irons and less in the low irons). Also, can't speak about the Avoda SL but I assume it's the same heads just the shaft at 37" throughout. Can't wait to get my utility irons to compare.

I ordered the 5 as Utility as well, under 25 degrees of loft it’s complicated to hit an iron with 37.5 inch length with the proper height. Due to the 5 degrees loft gapping the 5 is only 21 degrees loft. From what I see on the pictures, the offset seems to be minimal which is a good things. I suppose that the Edel heads have more forgiveness because they are hollow. But I really want to experience a better feeling (even if I like my Edel a lot).

Don't grill me too hard on pictures I'm not a photographer and in the middle of moving so my light setup is put away. First off the range was closed at the course so I didn't get to hit them for the first time before playing. I expected to miss more greens than usual due to the loft and length differences (Cobras 37", Avoda LW-8 36" then .5" increments from 7-5) between my gamer Coba Aerojet SL and these. It was also windy/the course was baked out and the greens were cement.

Overall I'm pretty happy with these and will give them a shot again at a better-conditioned course. Feel is subjective obviously but these are not a buttery forged feeling like other brands and don't feel overly powerful off the face but very solid. Also, the soles on these are much thinner than the cobras, making it easier to pick off the hardpan fairways (I'm a picker). It took a while to get used to the lighter-weight wedges vs the rest of the set but I do think they produced more spin on chips which Avoda claims (Aerojet on the left side of pics for reference, last pic is 5-6-7)

Is it just me or the angle n lighting? The top line on the iron on the right looks very thick and flat.

Single length irons make perfect sense to me. After all, my arms are always the same length.

Oh, wait. Totally spaced the fact that I want my 4i to go 190ish, and my PW to go 110ish. Suspect I should step back and do a bit of back-of-a-napkin physics on this one.

I would leave the physics to those of us who are capable of doing physics.

You just keep doing the same thing you have always done…because eventually, it will work for you. Believe it.

Meanwhile…those of who can do physics: “Did he say 4i, 190 and PW 110y?”

Please tell me more about how “single length” irons won’t work. But leave physics out of it because according to my data, physics isn’t the issue.

Ha!!! Well I guess you told me Mr. Physics!!!

(Parenthetically, I get the feeling  that someone's therapist knows all about you 😂.)

PS. The physics thing was a sarcastic joke. Apparently that wasn't clear. But since we are posting clever graphics ...
