BTW 49 out of the 68 players that completed the first two rounds are 10 shots or more off the lead. Great call otherwise. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

If you throw out Cantlay as an outlier as you would do in lots of other statistical models (remove the top and bottom values for example), and the "leader score" goes to -8, you've probably just added a dozen players. Out of 70.

Nevermind - not a dozen. 6. Kuch, Spaun, Straka, Rodgers, Clark, Bradley.

All would have been safe at a -8 leader cut.

Then only 11 guys are cut, and Spieth is dq and Woods is WD. So 13 out of 70 don't make it.

Tiger looked like a mc anyway and Spieth was ok. So call it an adjusted 14 out of 70 cut by being 10 worse than the leader, if Cantlay doesn't go big. Exactly 20%.

Another case of ifs and buts...... Sort of like the 2000 U.S. Open would have been great had the winner by 15 shots not actually played. The numbers are what they are. Simply put based on straight data the individual I replied to was wildly wrong.

Edit: watched the GD X post and it showed them driving away.  It wasn't Tiger driving.  But it was a guy who looked remarkably similar to TIger.  My mistake.  No Conspiracy here.

If you watch the replay on Hulu or whatever streaming service that you use, when Tiger was walking up the steps to the first tee box there was a guy on his left who was dressed almost the same, was built the same, and looked a lot like Tiger.  I thought it was super odd that he could have someone next to him who resembled him so much as I had never seen the guy before.

 

I am sure that is the guy that you saw.  In fact he even had had the same type of dark sweater on that Tiger ended up wearing.

 

It was VERY ODD.

The above comment of yours is the only one I can somewhat agree with. I stated earlier in this thread that the "within 10 shot component" should be done away with (it didn't factor this time) and should be low 40 and ties. Actually it should be cut more.

 

With a sub 70-80 player field with a cut it should be cut to low 36. No ties. Playoff after 2nd round to get to 36 on the number. Then the last two rounds then could be 18 twosomes or 12 threesomes. If it's a signature event with a cut give the players  more incentive to make the weekend. Give the players missing the cut a small stipend like the majors for missing the cut but make it official money with lesser FEC points along with minimal OWGR points.

 

Reason being is a standard PGA Tour event cut for a stroke play event is low 65 and ties for full fields of 120, 132, 144, 156. In theory less than half the field (dependent upon ties) should make the cut.

Some do. Do all? Of course not. Others care about their favorite player(s). Some care about who/what bets they have. For some it's only background noise. Others care only to discuss the events. <shrug>

It's a weird one with JT. Hugely impressed with how well he played in the RC under the pressure of a pick when having had a bad season. Did the matchplay format help because I thought he'd turned the corner but his game still looks really off despite decent finishes to start the season before this MC. I guess Riviera is a far more demanding test than what he's faced so far in 2024.
