It's not about strength. It's about speed or explosiveness or fast twitch or whatever you wanna call it. I was always plenty strong. Benched 295 when I was 17 with only working out twice a week. Just always had slow hands. Couldn't leap. Ran a 5.2 40 even though I practiced and played baseball every day from 9 to 21 and worked to get faster.

Strength does have something to do with it. To say it doesn’t is completely unsupported. Strength, power, speed, explosiveness are all interconnected. Otherwise everyone wouldn’t be able to swing the light speed stick things faster than the mid weight and that faster than the heavier weight. Sprinters would have the same build as mid distance or longer runners. Or women would have ability to run as fast, swing as fast, jump as high as men across the board.

I just meant it's not just about strength.

 

Plenty of golfer who can't bench 200 lbs who can swing it 115+.

Not read all 5 pages but perhaps you have a major leak somewhere.  Or you are totally misusing your wrists. I'm a 100 max and I could get 80 mph feet together,  half swing and wrist flick.

I know of one who could barely bench 200 and could swing 150…..now he can’t bench anything heavier than a submarine sandwich and can still go 120+ and scare 130 if he hurt himself.

Swing speed comes from a number of things.  Being strong isn't high on that list.  Timing, Flexibility and soft hands and arms through the swing are more important than brute strength.  You are coiling and uncoiling a spring.

Bench press max is about as important of a useful/functional measurement of strength for cycling and croquet as it is for golf. 
 

TPI must have forgotten to add bench press to their speed assessment test.
