More Supportive Shoes for Walking

Recommended Posts

I currently have G/Fore Gallivanter's and FJ Premiere's, and while both are comfortable, neither have been great for me as I have been walking more rounds this year than previously. I noticed the last round with my Gallivanters that they feel too flat to be comfortable to walk in, and the FJ's haven't been everything I thought they would be. I am looking for something with more arch support and cushion, I need something that can be good in the hot summer heat. In the rolling hills of Virginia, it can get very warm, humid, and of course all of the courses here are very hilly. I like the look of the new Nike Free G, even though they might not fit what I am looking for. I also don't like flashy, bright shoes because I usually keep 2-3 shoes in rotation so they need to be worn with a lot of different outfits. Any shoes that y'all like that fit what I am looking for?

The new Adidas Tour360 have been very popular this year on tour, could be one to look at and they have a pretty basic black and white options.

I started to wear these insoles in my golf shoes.  They are designed by a friend of mine who’s a podiatrist.  I’m not sure if there is a significant performance boost, but they are comfortable, and makes sense to me.

After trying on dozens of shoes, I settled on the ON Cloudvista. Waterproof trail shoe. I’m definitely not a trend follower but these are super comfy. Wore them the day after I got them and love them so far. Had a morning scramble and they performed awesome. Got some Puma spikeless Crush Sport model, also but yet to wear them. Feel super comfy in the store walking around. Guy in our group wears Hoka religiously and swears by them too.

We have a Nationally known shoe store in Greensboro, NC called the shoe market. They have a range of shoes but cater more to upper end shoes (SAS, Finn Comfort, etc.) and the only golf shoe they carry are ECCOs. This may be because is the only brand they carry that makes golf shoes, but my dad got some years ago and they have held up. I will say that no matter what you get try and get fitted for inserts that suit you. I have a metatarsal support insert in my shoes and it has made a huge difference.

The best I’ve found when it comes to support, comfort, stability, and lightweight are last years New Balance Fresh Foam Contend. Not the best looking shoes, but absolutely great for walking.

I have had the best luck with the Adidas ZG series.  I owned both the ‘21 and ‘23 models.  They can get warm, but wow; they are so comfy and light.

I have always been rough on golf shoes, and walk as often as possible, so must be waterproof and stable.  For the last five years been enjoying stable and comfortable SQAIRZ.  Just bought another pair.

Assume you mean ON, not OC, correct?

Interested in this topic as well. There are lots of shoes that feel “comfy” out of the box and walking around the house (looking at you, True Linkswear!) but do not give me sufficient support to walk 18.

The Trues and similar work for a ton of people, but I’ve got some foot issues and support is much more important than lightweight or an instant feel of comfort. Going really old school, a Goodyear welted shoe works, but very difficult to find now. I hear the Adidas Tour 360 might be an option…I’ll check those out too. Shocked that the Nike Air Zoom Tour is actually quite good — I haven’t done well with Nike in a long time.

I have a pair of ON Clouds and love them for walking and casual wear. I could never wear them for golf although I know others that do. Minimal if any lateral support - OP did ask for most supportive shoes. The most comfortable walking shoes I own are the GFore MG4X2. Incredible comfort and exactly zero support. Awful on sidehill lies but great for the range and the dining room!

Exactly, the lack of lateral support and stability is where the running/soft soled shoes are bad for me. The New Balance Fresh Foam Contend are the only lightweight shoe I’ve found that are very supportive both laterally and in the arch, but have great grip and comfort.

I have a pair of NB altho not those. My current favorite is the Adidas Code Chaos 22. Has everything you could ask for in a comfortable supportive spikeless shoe

I had a work conference last week and finally got to try on a lot of shoes at a PGATSS, and those MG4X2 were easily the most comfortable ones that I tried. They remind me a lot of Hokas, in a good way. Was hoping the MG4+ was going to be as comfortable but with a more golf focus, but those aren't anywhere as comfortable. I also loved the Nike Free G, but I fear the thin midsole will lead to sore feet. It is either going to be the MG4X2 or the Free G (for the price) that I pick up.

Agree with the MG4+ which wasn't very comfortable. Strongly recommend against the MG4X2 though - extremely comfortable but awful for golf. Even the salesman in GFore store agreed.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
