That is a no nonsense putter. Amazing that he is going away from a mid-mallet. All this says to me is that he is really trying to focus up.  Remind me of the story Scotth Cameron told about Tiger Woods most famous Circle T in which Cameron said the amount of work and passion that went into the design was more than any putter he had made before. He had to make the putter just right for Woods. I wonder if Cameron put that same level of intention into JTs putter. There was a video if I remember correctly where Cameron talked about a putter he designed for JT and what his specifications were.

God, this. JT needs a LAB putter and just be done with it but he is such a Titleist/Cameron loyalist (and sponsored athlete) that he would never do that. 

 

Also, this is just a Ping Anser, right?

I'm sure Mr. Solheim put a lot more work and passion into that design than anyone else.  Don't crucify me people I'm having fun LOL

Check the stats of guys using Lab putters and while it has helped them a little, not to the degree that they are the saving grace of someones putting.

I've got one on my Legacy Theo and it's great. I find it so much easier lining my putter up perpendicular to my target line rather than trying to line up a line to target line.

I fully accept you know the stats better than I but this is jarring...and this isn't going to prove my point because I think Adam was around the 50th spot before the LAB putter as well. I just think JT needs to go to something BIGGER but what do I know, I am a hack and he is a world class player. Just a man shouting at clouds over here. It seems to me like JT is a bit of an equipment snob, knowing nothing about him. Tiger wouldn't use a huge mallet so why would he....that kind of thing. I also wonder if Tiger hadn't used a Scotty.....where would SC be now? Just musing over here. Maybe the same spot? Maybe not?

The year that Adam Scott lost The Open Championship to Els with a back nine collapse using an anchored broomstick he finished 2nd to last in SGP but he was so great SG tee to green it allowed him to, even with the collapse finish 2nd. 
 

I really need to look at JT’s stats for proximity to the hole. It isn’t always bad putting but not hitting your shot in the correct quadrant on the green, to many downhill down grain breaking putts, or any number of other reasons

 

I’m not saying they aren’t a good putter I’m just saying they are not going to make an instant change to success.

Big JT guy and have to agree with you Greg. The putting has not been great for a long time but his iron play has fallen off from his peak and that is having a knock on impact on his putting.

Totally agree. Just have to watch the highlights of his 2018/19 wins on Youtube to see the difference. He was putting everything closer to the flag and to the correct place to make a putt, you could see he was really freed up on the greens.

 

Now he just seems to throw in 2 or 3 really loose short iron/ wedges per round that really derail the momentum, coupled with the fact that his mid irons just aren't as consistent.

 

I do feel he is a good solid week away from getting it all back though. I think a win would breed more this time round, more so than the last PGA win (which was against form).

 

When he last tried a blade putter he was in the middle of his 'slump', so probably didn't help him to give it a good go when the rest of his game was suffering.

 

That being said, I expect to see the mallet in the bag tomorrow 🙂

If the blade makes it in tomorrow, I would give it a 10% chance of still being there come the end of the week and 0% chance of being used at Pinehurst.

I know it’s the internet/SM, but I gotta shake my head about these “he needs to…” comments. Gonna go out on a limb and say all these guys have a fairly good idea what they are doing and have decent resources to help guide them. 

*btw. Tiger needs to obviously stop lifting for size/hypertrophy n jus do yoga n pilates! 🧘🏻

I feel like JT has a pretty nice putting stroke, its more of his mentality than anything these past few seasons where he's struggled. Just needs something that will inspire some confidence
