This is going to sound off topic, it feels like the JDM customers don’t buy crap, so the companies can’t sell crap over there. They vote with their dollar. Conversely, American golfers will gladly buy crap, and the companies know they can get away with selling Americans crap. It seems like if Americans stopped buying crap, became more discerning, and demanded better products, we would see more releases like this, among other products that the JDM gets and we don’t.

There does seem to be bigger market in Japan golf for higher cost/higher quality - Tourstage in the past - and some hilariously over the top Honma gear.

The first Asics golf shoes i got in Japan were outstanding and solved along term foot soreness/pain i'd had with every other shoe from various brands. I later got a similair spiked Asics from USA when I visited... and that foot pain returned a bit - swapped over the visibly better quality footbed from the old Japan Asics and pain went.

 

Recent visit to US - got some nice New Balance Brighton shoes... great price... but i would havehappily paid up more for these (29700yen = $185, so less than some Footjoy models) :-

Golf in Japan and South Korea are still sports for the rich. That's why most golf stuff is premium over there. I played in korea once but it was too expensive for me, so my brother-in-law paid. Normal people do play, but only at driving ranges and simulators.

I was at a golf shop yesterday in Japan. There are some crazy expensive putters. This crazy yellow Daiwa putter was the most expensive that I saw at 140,000yen.

Not to mention the 2024 X Forged irons which are INSANLY GOOD.  I'm not surprised of this coming from the country that prides itself on some of the highest of high quality steel forging.
