Ping vs Titleist

Recommended Posts

I am one of the dreaded, what I will call OCD, and normally play a full bag top/bottom. I have tinkered with lots of different brands, and Ping/Titleist are the ones I come back to. I am a club “ho” for sure to the max.

For Titleist, I either go with the MBs blended with some T100 at the top end. For ping, I tend to go with Blueprint T, and Blueprint S and the top end. I have full bags of both, and just can’t seem to lock one down.

The big thing here, is Ping Drivers just don’t sit well with me for some reason, maybe it’s the turbulators or something, I’m not sure.

Would just like some opinions for guys like me with maybe some thoughts on why you chose your certain brand.

Play well!

You answered your own question.  If you MUST have the same name on all 14 clubs, and you do not like the Ping driver, then Titleist it must be.

Perhaps getting a handle on your OCD might also benefit your golf game?😀

Haha! It sure would for sure! On the benefit of it, it enables me to buy more clubs!

I definitely agree with that as well. Putters will never be a thing I choose, I have wayyy to many to be picky on that subject, but I like your thinking.

It's a grand way to think, until you need to track down a 52 deg Nike Engage wedge through every classified and used club seller to pair with the lob cause nothing else feels quite right...

I'm mostly a Ping guy.   I have S55 irons and a G425 LST.   However,  I have not been loving my G425 as much.  It doesn't feel super great, sounds a bit clunky and it seems I'm not getting the yardage I'd expect.  On the other hand,  I have been hitting a lot of fairways with it, so I can't complain too much there.

I hit a friends TSR2 and was really impressed.   Sounds better and feels fantastic.

Just pick the best irons and driver based on performance.  If driver doesn't match, put other brands headcover on it.

I would drive your OCD crazy, I have a split set of Irons with two brands.  I210 9i-7i, PXG CB 6i-4i.  I owned both sets and took what I liked most out of each and just play them.  Woods are callaway and wedges Bettinadi besides my 58, which is callaway.  Not one person has asked or noticed.

I just try to find the best 14 clubs that work for me regardless of brand. However, if I had to pick just one brand it would be PXG.

I prefer Titleist woods. I had a G410 LST driver that I hit pretty consistently straight, but forgiveness and distance were both lacking. I prefer the sound and feel of the Titleist.

I am also brand loyal to certain parts of the bag. Irobs and wedges are Mizuno. Vokey lob wedge.

I chose an Evnroll putter because it works best for me. That's my only metric. If I were you I would look at the two bags and pick my fav of each to make the ultimate Ping/Titleist mixed bag.

I am the EXACT opposite.  I like to play what works the best, and it doesn't matter one bit whose name is on the club.

That being said, there is a WHOLE LOT of Ping in my bag currently.  I can play any driver, shoot I did have the 400 max in the bag that sounded awful, since then to the TSR3 and now to 10k.  The blueprint S, for me has been so much better that the T100.  I stopped playing MB irons shortly after college (RIP MP-14's) but 5-GW, LW, 7 wood, 5 wood and Driver are all Ping currently.

I cannot deal with the super low profile of ping woods in the 3 wood spot, and I just currently love the Cleveland 56 wedge I am playing.

Long story short, both companies make some great products.  If you CANNOT hit a Ping driver and ALSO must play same manufacturer through the bag, then you can close the post you already know the answer.  No amount of posts saying play the Ping driver or the Ping bag will get you over your OCD that you do not like the driver.  As we all know you must like something to hit it well.

Zero brand loyalty but a lot of TM in my bag recently - had T100 irons for quite a while but love the latest P7MBs so just have different brand for wedges

Even then, I don’t mind a mixed bag of the best of whatever works for me

To your question, I do not get along with PING woods at all - I’m sure it is just me but just don’t get the pop off the driver or FWs and spin has been an issue.  Titleist on the other hand is great top to bottom so I’d go there, personally, between the two.

I think in every category though you play whatever works.  I separate driver and FW, irons, and then wedges, putter, so that’s how I look at it.  I get the OCD of it but nothing is better than having confidence across the board regardless if it is mixed brands.

The OCD in me wants to get a Qi10 Tour 5w but my Stealth+ has been so good I can’t take it out of the bag just to match my driver when it is working!  Some of my OCD goes away with that kind of logic and not wanting to part with a club that is so reliable.  Honestly, some of the Pro’s wish they didn’t have to switch clubs out for the same reason, current one works perfectly, don’t want to kick it out due to a contract so nice to be the weekend warrior that isn’t obligated to play the latest, LOL

Chose my brands based on performance - what else would you pick on? I guess price could be a factor. Looks is a thing but honestly once you look at something enough, you get used to it. Most clubs now a days feel pretty good, and sound can be altered as needed.

We are similar. I will only play Ping or Titleist. To me they are the brands that signify style and class and will never try and sell me a club named smoke or paradym or stealth.... I see them in the same way I admire BMW or Porsche based on the letter/number series they designate their cars.

My current bag is a bit of mix between the two...

Ping G430 SFT Driver and 3W

Titleist TSR2 7 Wood

Titleist TSI 4 Hybrid

Ping Blueprint T 5 - P

Vokey SM9 50/54/60

Ping PLD Anser

The reality is, fit the driver and maybe woods and especially if you're using blades everything else will not be that different.  Every brand has pretty much the exact same specs (if you look at MPF numbers they're more similar than you'd think, with very slight variations) of Irons available with slightly different look/feels and especially now that they have a more tour shaped wedge available its pretty negligible.

All the tests seem to say Ping driver is the best overall driver but I just can't get over the way it sets up or the sound it makes.  Maybe I should have another go at it.

Titleist irons/woods

q10 Driver (only because I have a ventus/velocore shaft I can't part with since the Sim days.)

For me, there's zero question.  Ping all the way.  I don't wish the damage to my being that comes with Titleist use.

I think the best thing you can do is get over the need to play only one brand. Being brand agnostic and having a "free agent" bag is very freeing! You'll find different brands that work for you throughout the bag. I love Ping woods, Srixon irons and Titleist Vokey wedges. So while my bag has multiple brands represented, I tend to find a brand that I like for certain clubs and stick with it.

Driver - Cobra LTDx LS 9*

3 Wood -  Ping G430 Max 15*

3 Utility -  TE Exotics EXS Ti-U 19*

Irons - Srixon Z-785 4-PW

Wedges - Titleist Vokey 50*+54*+58*

Putter - Odyssey White Hot 7s 35"

Ball - TaylorMade TP5 Yellow/Pix
