I've read this thread from beginning to end twice now, and have taken notes meticulously. I've got 2 kids that will hopefully grow to love the game just as their father, grandad, and great-grandfather do. We live in an extremely rural area where practice facilities are few and far between. I have a dream to utilize bits and pieces of our 7+ acres for the benefit of their short games. 505...I know you've mentioned your willingness to take questions and help in anyway you can in sharing your knowledge and talent...I hope you weren't kidding. Hope to finish some plans here soon and get to a point of PM'ing you some questions before too long.

One recommendation for the pond, have an area or plants that the fish can hide in otherwise you may get a visit by a preditor and no more fishies.

If you are referring to birds. Fishing line works great.... Once they find out it's there, they wont come back. Just strand some in an X 8-ft above the pond.

Glad to see people are still interested in this thread. Progress has been slow out there over the past month as I was on a little vacation, then had to get caught back up on work, after that everyone wanted to play golf, then it got super hot, etc... lol.

I am currently working on the deck and have the frame/joist system all in place. Only a small section left to stain and then I will get started on all the top decking.

The garden is growing fast and everything is fruiting. My first attempt at growing watermelon is going a little TOO well... all 3 plants are going bonkers.

The pond plants and fish are all loving their new home and everything is doing good. 3 tons of stripstone is sitting out in the driveway ready for covering the waterfalls.


I will post up all of the pics I have been taking sometime over this weekend. Thanks for the kind words everyone.

And that's where we're at as of today. :)

 

My cousin is coming over tomorrow to get the final design for the electrical going, and I should have that all set up and ready for him to hookup by next weekend. All of the 2" x 8" x 16' decking is out in the garage and ready to go down next week (rain forecasted through Monday). After that we're going to set up all of the pond rock and finish a few final areas of rough turf, and she'll be done. So close now I can taste it. (cool)

Electrical got all wrapped up last night. It turned out great. This setup is probably a little safer than the old one (extension cord running out the back door with a power strip plugged into it). Haha.

 

So we put in a dedicated breaker in the main, and ran that to a sub-panel under the deck. This has 2 breakers in it, one powering the skimmer side and the other powering the pump side. Everything sits above water level.

 

Skimmer side has 2 switched outlets and 2 always-on outlets. They are both GFI protected. The in-use covers and the switch covers keep everything dry.

 

 

 

The pump side is similar to the other, but has 4 switched outlets instead of just 2. There are also 2 always-on outlets on this side and everything over here is GFI protected. Same in-use covers and switch covers.

 

 

I just need to get stuff labeled and she's done under there.

 

 

 

If it ever stops raining every day I *might* be able to finish the deck. Clouds are rolling in again right now. :(
