+1 on the Spalding Tour Edition. I doubt if there was ever a spinnier ball. Hit a 50 yard wedge and watch it spin back off the green, down the fairway and virtually back to your feet. I loved the feel of the Titleist Tour Balata, but alas the durability factor meant it seldom remained in the bag for more than 3 holes. The Maxfli HT was a lot more durable. Hats off also to the Slazenger Pro Balata (probably the softest ball ever - and a cover to match), good for about one full wedge shot.... and the Hogan Balata - a fine ball.
Mostly used Wilson ProStaffs. Loved them.
Titleist DT was my favorite, when I could afford them. Also used the Molitor quite a bit.
This wasn't that long ago, maybe 6 years, but does anyone remember the Precept Pwr.....something? Can't fully recall the name. Came in a generic looking, red and white box. Those were very good balls. Does anyone recall these?
You mean the Precept Pwrdrive - great affordable 3 piece ball - I used them just a few years ago

I bought some just last summer (2008) at Sport Check for $12/doz and gave them to a friend who was using some crap ball.

But they are not that old - probably were made in 2005-2006.

As I recall they were rated quite high in the 2006 Golf Digest Hot List

I remember the old Wilson Pro Staffs from the late 70s-early 80s with the "truncated cone" dimples...I played it or years.

Anybody remember Royal Golf Balls? They had one that had dimples like the current Callaways, but I thought they were terrible in the wind..

And I remember when the Polara first came out, then was outlawed in the 1970s. I found a few in the woods, they must not have been that slice/hook reducing.....

Hahaha - I once had one of these in my bag, and hit with an incredibly pure shot.

Felt like hitting a wet bag of sand (heehee), and went nowhere.

Good mention of the Canada Cup and Star Flite - I saw a couple of these in the dump bin at my local course and was tempted just to buy them to see what they felt like. Maybe I'll still grab them...

I remember winning a box of Dunlop 65 and what a treat to unwrap one, i kept those for special occasions, anyone remember a ball in the 70's that just had two painted dots, they where rejects of some make or other, we mostly used those or Dunlop Warwicks, i saw some warwicks for sale as antiques for $200 (Dozen) LOL.....Steve

My first job was caddying at a course that held a National Championship. Maxfli Revolution's were donated as the range ball that week. When they left we sorted them out from the normal range rocks and all took home enough balls to last us till college. To this day I will find myself chipping around the house with a Maxfli Evolution with a big circle P on the side. The next ball to really change my life was the Precept Lady which I played in high school. That was the ball that led to the original Pro V1.

Anyone remember the Rextar? I dabbled with those for a while after Maxfli ruined the HT Balata and was quite impressed - until the Titleist Professional came along.
Early to mid 70's when I first started golfing at a young age my parents used to buy me a dozen x-out "Club Specials" for my birthday each year. Cheap soft balls. Found one recently and saved it for the golf ball cabinet.

The first balls that we could afford that did not slice or cut when mis-hit were "Star Flites" and "Canada Cups"

Man, we thought those were such a great improvement and great balls.

I still have some of those and you would not believe how hard the cover is.
I remember finding an Acushnet Club Special once. It was without a doubt the worst golf ball that I ever hit as a kid. That would have been mid-1960's.

I played them in my clubs weekly competitions for the summer between school & university, all because of Nick Faldo. It was a good ball if I remember but pretty expensive, espectially when your home course is narrow and tree lined.

I still have the one I shot my best ever nine holes (31) with.

I just loved the Wilson Pro Staffs with the odd, flat-bottomed dimples. I think they came in orange as well. For a while it seemed like white golf balls were going to be history. I also liked the Maxfli DDH. Maybe I had an issue with unusual dimples?

Also, Jewish members of the club I caddied at were especially fond of Spalding Molitors and referred to them as "mazel tovs".

The greatest ball I have ever played was the Professional 90. I almost cried when they took them away and bought out the Pro V1.

I think I may have a few sleeves left at my parents house that I'm going to search for when I visit them this week.

I know I have a few sleeves of the original Taylor-Made "Innergel" balls that were terrible. Maybe I'll play them for a few holes to remember how terrible they were.

Maxfli Tour Comp ball was always a favorite of mine. I think part of it had to do with the performance, but also because John Daly was playing it at the time. What time that was I don't quite remember anymore.....
