R9 460 vs SuperTri

Is MWT worth extra $?
I've demoed both clubs and each feels very good, with the ST feeling like it puts perhaps a more solid smack on the ball. Both work well with my swing. My current driver FTiq is too closed to my eye, causing me trouble setting up and pulls left. Being able to adjust the face on each of the R9 and the ST is very nice. But is the MWT worth the extra $100 for the ST? What say you R9 owners? Is the face adjustability what really counts here?

The MWT will help if you need to alter the ball flight on the Supertri, for example, I needed to shift more weight closer to the face to bring the flight down, so I went from a 1-16-1 default to a 8-1-8, both with the FCT in the TP setting, sometimes R. The port order I'm referencing is toe-center-heel. When I use the 420cc R9, I never touched the weights because that was sufficiently low launching/spinning for me. Another difference between the 460 and the ST is that the face of the ST is slightly shorter from toe to heel and is a little deeper, if that matters to you. While I'm not going to constantly tinkering with the MWT (I hope not) it can be a valuable option IF you need it.

If you are fit with the proper shaft, the regular R9 wouldn't be a bad option either. It spins a little less but it's still a great head.

The overall Supertri is worth the money versus the R9 460. I am waiting on a 9.5 supertri with stiff fubuki, while I am waiting, a buddy let me hit his R9 460 with stiff fubuki and I have to say, the R9 460 isn't too bad. The Supertri has a better look and a little better ballflight, as long as the shaft is set up right....head shouldn't make too much of a difference. If I had to hit the R9 460 with stiff fubuki for the year, I wouldn't be too disappointed.

I have played the R9, the R9 460, and the Supertri, all were the TP version, all with the Motore F1 shaft. I had the R9 and the R9 460 at the same time, and I was able to compare the two. For me the 460 was a much better driver - it was both longer and more forgiving. I traded the 460 in for the SuperTri and regretted the decision. The ST spun the ball too much, and no matter how I set the weights I could not get it from launching higher than I wanted (it was an 8.5* head). I am sure that if I gave the ST more time on the course I could have found a happy medium, but I didn't have the patience.... In my opinion, the 460 driver is a better driver (that can be had for less than $200) and I would choose it over the SuperTri.

A majority of the decision on R9 460 vs Stri will be are you confortable with the Stri's considerably larger clubhead. I did not like the size/heft of the STri and I like how the R9460 plays a consistent slight draw.

Aren't they both 460cc? If anything, the ST looks smaller at address because the face is deeper. Unless you're referring to the 420cc R9.

I have both the R9 460 TP and the SuperTri TP in 8.5 with the Motore F1 staft in stiff. I've posted feedback previously on the comparison of these two drivers but after 3 months of using both drivers on the course, I have to give the nod to the R9 460. The SuperTri is slightly more forgiving, but the R9 460 is much longer due to the lower spin. I've tried various configurations with the ST MWT, but I always go back to the 1-16-1 setup, which essentially is the same setup as the R9 460 without the MWT.

The R9 460 TP also sounds more solid with the higher pitched sound when the ball is struck; I also prefer the slight triangular pear shape look of the R9 460 TP.

I'll probably keep both drivers but for the first time, I truly believe the newer technology did not beat the old.

Supertri for sure. I just got one in the 9.5 with the TP RIP 70S and I am stunned by how good this driver is. It's a canon - as long as my SFTP with the Fubuki 63S at 46.5" long. A 45" driver that is as long as a 46.5" - that was mind blowing. The RIP is just an awesome shaft, not as much kick as the Fubuki but OH-SO controlled and stable. My config is NR with the heel 1-4-12 toe...fade baby! fade!

Own both (and a regular R9). SS is 108.

On the supertri...
I did the 8-1-8 thing to get the flight down and tried 3 different shafts I have.

On the 460 I used the same shafts as the ST.

Comparing the 2 the ST is a great driver but for me I really regret the purchase.

I game the 460. I'm longer with the ST by just a touch but the ball balloons too much on me with the ST. I'll take accuracy over distance any day.

+1. R9 460 for me. Just as long but was more consistent/forgiving.

To specifically address your question, a new R9 460 and SuperTri costs $170 and $340 respectively.
Is the SuperTri worth twice the cost of a R9 460? Not including the cost of additional weights for the SuperTri.
That's a question only you can answer.

As for me, I had both with the same shaft and chose the R9 460 over the SuperTri.
Cost wasn't a factor in my decision.

Casey, if the shaft is 10 grams heavier, you would only want to remove 2 grams from the head, assuming the same length.

Just a word of caution, as you took 8 extra grams out, which is 4 points, probably putting you in the C's.

Really i didnt know that, thanks for the heads up. It feels the same weight but ill add the 8 back and see what happens:drinks: It is 3/4 shorter than the previous shaft.

I am with you 110%! Even when cost is not an issue, the R9 460 is still the better driver. I have the same Motore F1 TP shaft on both drivers and the R9 460 is still longer, lower spin and more consistent. If cost is a factor, then the R9 460 would be hands down the no brainer option. The ST is a good driver, but definitely not worth twice as much.

I am an equipment ho and always hoping newer technology would improve my game. However, in the case of these two drivers, the newer technology is slighlty inferior in IMHO. That being said, I'm keeping the ST as my backup driver since I couldn't find another driver better than the ST as the backup option. The R9 460 is seriously the best driver I have ever used.

I did not like the ST nor the R9 460. However, the Superdeep is a fantastic club. If you want a driver that will lower your spin rates, SD is the way to go.

To the poster a few back regarding the weights with a heavier shaft.....If I am going with a RIP 70 gram shaft which is about 8-10 grams heavier than I typically use, can I just reduce the weights in the ST head from 18 grams total down to 12-14 grams to keep my swingweight and SS consistent. With a heavier shaft but less weights in the head, can I expect to get my SS in line to what I am getting with a 62 gram shaft now? I'd love to get a RIP but am concerned with my 95+ SS the heavier shaft will lose me some distance. If I could use less weights in the head and get the RIP I might have a good setup?
